Within the context of globalisation and international migration, learning foreign languages is becoming ever more important. Whether classic books, online applications or apps, there are a myriad of tools for learning new languages. However, these are normally only available for well-known languages, are often complex and also require payment.
babadada.com is forging a new path. The online portal is a visual dictionary and focuses on the 1,300 most important words in a language. Currently it offers around 70 languages and dialects (beta version), including well-known languages such as English and Chinese (Mandarin), as well as rarer languages such as Alemannic and dialects such as Swiss German. babadada.com is intuitive to use, can be accessed on all current end devices and is completely free of charge.
But why is the word “polo” one of the most 1,300 most important words? The answer is simple: babadada.com is created by its supporters and several of its initial helpers are true polo fans. They simply added their favourite sport to the list. Now that the application has been created, it’s the turn of dialects and rare languages. If you can speak a language or dialect and want to help, you will get a list of vocabulary to complete at babadada.com. Following a brief check, the language will then be made visible to all users. This means that there is a constant stream of new languages to learn. And if you’ve ever wanted to know what “polo” is in Swahili, Finnish or Hebrew, you’ll find the answer here: → go to the visual dictionary at babadada.com
babadada.com was launched in mid-July following several months in development. The application was developed by Freshlabs GbR and is constantly being expanded in cooperation with several partners and supporters.
