Beach Polo World Cup again at Lignano Sabbiadoro

“Due to the enormous success in the previous year and the perfect organization by our local partner, the World Association PIPA opted this year again for Lignano Sabbiadoro as one of the venues for the PIPA Beach Polo World Series” commented the native of Brazil sports director of PIPA Augusto Faria Correa de Ormazabel. The arena can accommodate 3,000 spectators, thus creating a unique atmosphere.

“An Italian top DJ, three sportscasters and a cool break program will bring the Beach Arena in the right mood”, local event manager Franco Gaiarso from Lisa Gest is convinced. Beach Polo is played in teams of two players. The field consists of sand which is specially groomed and prepared to ensure a fast game. The arena measures 30 x 60 meters and the spectators are close to the action. “That’s exactly what makes Beach Polo so attractive for the audience”, states Uwe Seebacher, president of PIPA and also tournament director. Each match consists of four chukker, as the game halves are known in polo, each lasting 6 minutes and 30 seconds. After each chukker, the sides and horses are changed.

Deputy Mayor and Councillor of Sports Lignano Vico Meroi comments: “Last year between 4,000 and 5,000 people followed these games on the three days of the tournament”, so this year we expect about 10,000 visitors!”

The event had exceeded all expectations in terms of reach, media values and viewers interested in the past year. “The Beach Polo World Cup is for Lignano a premier sporting event comparable to the Red Bull Air Race or a Beach Volleyball Grand Slam tournament with a global media presence!” states PIPA Marketing Vice President Chris Adam, who this year for the first time will come to Lignano with some new sponsors and partners. In 2014 the media value of the event amounted to approximately EUR 4 million and the event reached more than 10 million people worldwide.

Every day the games start at 8pm and are played in floodlight. The arena opens at 7pm and at approximately 7.30 pm the teams will arrive at the arena and get themselves ready for the games. The various side events will be communicated and announced on the spot. Entrance is free to all events. Before and after the games, a visit to the polo ponies right next to the arena is certainly a highlight for young and old.

At all three events days viewers can enjoy exciting games. On the last day after the finals, the future Beach Polo Champion is honored and will subsequently be celebrated vigorously at the “A Quechua Champions Night”.
