Jubilee Chukkas in Hamburg

Warm summery temperatures, numerous spectators and competitive polo matches – this was the 15th edition of the Berenberg Polo-Derby at Hamburger Polo Club. On three match days six teams competed against each other and celebrated the jubilee edition of the tournament, which was once again sponsored by private bank Berenberg. The tournament marked the third part of the German Polo Tour.

In the final team Lanson, consisiting of Matthias Grau (0), Heinrich Dumrath (+3), Thomas Winter (+4) and Tatu Gomez Romero (+4), defeated their opponent team Pegasus Events, including Reinhold Hofmann (0), Gastón Maíquez (+7), Cristobal Durrieu (+4) and Christian Badenhop (+1), by a narrow margin, 5.5-5.

In the match for third place between team Berenberg and team Meissler & Co there was a moment of shock: Caspar Crasemann (+3) of team Meissler & Co fell off his horse and put his elbow out of joint. The 21-year-old polo players had to be brought to the hospital and the match was abandoned. Therefore both teams were placed third at the award ceremony.

Organiser Christopher Kirsch: “The final was exciting from beginning to end and the result was very narrow. Most of the time Pegasus Event was in the lead, but in the end they did not win. The VIP area was very crowded, just like the public area. Over the years the derby has become one of the top-class tournaments in High Goal in Germany.”
