Seit Beginn der 2000-Wende erlebt der Polosport in Malaysia eine Renaissance. Derzeit sind in der Royal Malaysian Polo Association, dem nationalen Polo Verband, rund 200 Spieler registriert. Der beste Spieler ist L. En. Shariman MD Sarir mit einem Handicap von +6.
Gegründet wurde die Royal Malaysian Polo Association unter dem Namen Malayan Polo Association im Jahr 1922. Zu den Gründungsmitgliedern gehörten die drei Clubs Selangor Polo Club (gegründet 1902), Penang Polo Club und Singapore Polo Club (gegründet 1866). Kurz darauf schlossen sich auch die Clubs Royal Pahang Polo Club (gegründet 1926), Royal Johor Polo Club (gegründet 1923) und Iskandar Polo Club of Perak (gegründet 1923). Seit Anbeginn ist die Royal Malaysian Polo Association an die Hurlingham Polo Association angegliedert und vom Olympic Council of Malaysia, dem National Sports Council and dem Malaysian Equine Council anerkannt.
Seit 2005 organisiert die Royal Malaysian Polo Association die RMPA Polo Leagues, die in drei Spielklassen ausgetragen werden: International (12 bis 14 Goals), National (4 bis 6 Goals) und Championship (0 bis 3 Goals). Konzipiert wurde die RMPA Polo League von His Royal Highness Tengku Mahkota Pahang, Brian Miller und Dato’ Mohamed Moiz im Jahr 2002. Drei Jahre dauerte es, bis die Planungen und Vorbereitungen abgeschlossen werden und die Idee in die Realität umgesetzt werden konnte.
Im Juni 2011 werden in Malaysia die Qualifikationsspiele der Zone D für den FIP Polo World Cup 2012 ausgetragen. Zwei Wochen lang werden dann acht Teams aus Australien, Afrika und Asien um die Teilnahme an der Polo Weltmeisterschaft kämpfen.

Royal Malaysian Polo Association
The Royal Malaysian Polo Association was formed in 1922 and presently has about 200 players. In June 2011 Malaysia will host the Zone D qualifying matches for the FIP Polo World Cup 2012.
Polo has been enjoying something of a renaissance in Malaysia since the beginning of the new millennium. The Royal Malaysian Polo Association, which is also the national Polo Association, presently has about 200 registered players, the six-goaler L. En. Shariman MD Sarir being the best player.
The Malayan Polo association, which is now the Royal Malaysian Polo Association, was formed in 1922. The founding members were the three clubs Selangor Polo Club (formed in 1902), Penang Polo Club, and Singapore Polo Club (formed in 1866). The clubs Royal Pahang Polo Club (formed in 1926), Royal Johor Polo Club (formed in1923), and Iskandar Polo Club of Perak (formed in 1923) joined the association shortly thereafter. The Royal Malaysian Association has always been affiliated to the Hurlingham Polo Association and is recognised by the Olympic Council of Malaysia, the National Sports Council, and the Malaysian Equine Council.
In 2005 the Royal Malaysian Polo Association started the RMPA Polo Leagues which are played in three classes: International (12 to 14 Goals), National (4 to 6 Goals), and Championship (0 to 3 Goals). In June 2011 Malaysia will host the Zone D qualifying matches for the FIP Polo World Cup 2012. For two weeks eight teams from Australia, Africa, and Asia will each vie for the opportunity to take part in the Polo World Cup.
