Welches Turnier in Palermo spielen Sie gerade und wie läuft es?
Wir spielen im Moment die 16 Goal Polo Tour Palermo-Association. Das erste Spiel haben wir auf Platz eins, dem heiligen Rasen von Palermo, gewonnen. Das zweite in Association leider verloren. Aber, wenn wir heute gewinnen, wären wir am Samstag im Endspiel in Palermo, da alle Teams ein Mal gewonnen und ein Mal verloren haben und wir dabei in unserer Gruppe noch am besten sind.
Mit welchem Team und welchen Pferden spielen Sie?
Wir spielen mit Eduardo Anca (+6), Santos Anca (+5), Matias T. Zavaleta (+5) und mir (0). Das nächste Turnier spielen wir in der gleichen Besetzung. Das ist die 16 Goal Polo Tour Centaurus Pilar vom 20. März bis 3. April.
Das wievielte Mal sind Sie gerade in Argentinien? Und zum wievielten Mal nehmen Sie an einem Turnier teil?
Ich spiele jetzt das dritte Jahr Turniere in Argentinien. Immer im November, Dezember, Januar und März. Normalerweise nehmen wir am Silver Cup Ellerstina, Coronel Suarez und an fast allen Polo Tours – alles 16 Goal – teil.
Was macht Polo in Argentinien so einzigartig? Wie erleben Sie Atmosphäre, Land und Leute?
Warum Argentinien – hier ist Polo ein Teil der Lebenskultur. Man spielt, freut sich am Spiel und daran, mit den Freunden zusammen zu sein abends beim Asado. Es ist hier einfach ein Teil des Lebens. Simple life!! Unkompliziert. Man lernt interessante Leute kennen. Mich fasziniert die Zusammengehörigkeit von Pferden und Menschen als ein Team, als eine Einheit. Polo ist für mich ein Teil meines Lebens geworden. Hier in Argentinien spiele ich mit meinen eigenen Pferden, die auf der Farm von Familie Anca stehen.
Was haben Sie sich für die europäische Polosaison 2010 vorgenommen?
In Europa spielen wir dieses Jahr München Airport (auf dem Wege nach Italien), dann das 15 Goal Villa Sesta und Argentario und danach ein 12 Goal Turnier in Antwerpen. Dann spielen wir in Deutschland die Turniere in Düsseldorf, auf Sylt und die Deutsche Meisterschaft in Berlin. Im September spielen wir ein 15 Goal Turnier in Paris und im November geht es schon wieder nach Argentinien. Almost a fulltime job!!!
Welches Turnier spielen Ihre Töchter Naomi und Thanee zur Zeit?
Sie spielen im Moment einen Ladies Cup hier in Pilar. Morgen ist der finale Tag. Eva Brühl spielt unter anderem auch mit.
Was haben sich Naomi und Thanee für die Saison 2010 in Deutschland vorgenommen?
Sie werden in Hannover 6 Goal mit Eduardo Anca und mir spielen, dann das Ladies Turnier auf Schloss Wallerstein, den Generation Cup in Hamburg, Timmendorf, Sylt und die Deutsche Jugendmeisterschaft im September in Hamburg.

An interview with Uwe Schröder, captain and founder of Tom Tailor, about his on-going tournaments in Argentina, his plans (and his daughters’) for the 2010 German Polo season.
While it is the off-season for polo in Europe, the polo season in Argentina is already underway. Argentina, the most important polo destination worldwide, has become home to many European polo players. Polo+10 got in touch with Uwe Schröder, captain of Team Tom Tailor (www.tom-tailor.de), in Argentina.
What tournament are you presently playing in Palermo and how’s it coming along?
We are presently playing the 16 Goal Polo Tour Palermo-Association. We won the first game on the sacred pitch of Palermo, but unfortunately lost the second game in Association. However, if we win today, we will have secured a place in the final in Palermo as each of the teams has won once and lost once, so we are still the best in our group.
Who are the members of your team?
The team is made up of Eduardo Anca (+6), Santos Anca (+5), Matias T. Zavaleta (+5) and myself (0). The same players will play on the team in the next tournament, the 16 Goal Tour, Centaurus Pilar, from 20 March to 3 April.
How often have you been to Argentina and how many tournaments have you played?
I have been playing tournaments in Argentina for three years – this being my third year at it. We are always here in November, December, January and March. We usually take part in the Silver Cup Ellerstina, the Coronel Suarez, and just about all the 16 Goal polo tours.
What makes polo in Argentina so unique? What’s your take on the atmosphere, the country, and the people?
In Argentina polo is part of life, part of the culture. While you play and enjoy the game, you also look forward to getting together with friends in the evening for asado. It is simply part of life. And, you meet lots of interesting people. I am particularly fascinated by the bond between people and horses as a team, an entity as such. Polo has become part of my life. Here in Argentina, I play my own horses, which are kept on the Anca family’s farm.
What are your plans for the 2010 European polo season?
This year we will be playing a number of tournaments. We will be playing Munich Airport (en route to Italy), then we’ll play the 15 Goal Villa Sesta and Argentario, and thereafter the 12 Goal tournament in Antwerp. In Germany we will be playing tournaments in Düsseldorf, Sylt, and the German championship in Berlin. In September we will be playing a 15 Goal tournament in Paris and in November we return to Argentina. Almost a fulltime job!!!
What tournaments are your daughters, Naomi and Thanee, presently playing?
They are presently playing a Ladies Cup here in Pilar together with Eva Brühl and others. The finals take place tomorrow.
What are their plans for the 2010 polo season in Germany?
They will be playing the Hannover 6 Goal tournament with Eduardo Anca and me, then the Ladies Tournament at the castle of Wallerstein, the Generation Cup in Hamburg, Timmendorf, and Sylt, and finally the German Youth Championships in Hamburg in September.
