Im Frühjahr 2009 ist auf der Generalversammlung des Poloweltverbandes (FIP) (www.fippolo.com) in Buenos Aires die Entscheidung für Österreich als Gastgeber der Polo Europameisterschaft 2010 gefallen. Richard Drasche-Wartinberg, Präsident der Austrian Polo Association (www.poloclub.at), konnte das Gremium persönlich von den Vorzügen des Polo Club Schloss Ebreichsdorf überzeugen. Seit beinahe 20 Jahren werden hier jährlich viele große Turniere wie zum Beispiel das Austrian Polo Open, der Sal. Oppenheim Cup und der President’s Cup ausgetragen. Der Gastgeber der VIII. Polo Europameisterschaft sieht den Ereignissen des kommenden Sommers schon gespannt entgegen: „Es ist die Chance den Polo-Sport auf nationaler Ebene weiter zu etablieren, da die besten Polo-Spieler aus allen qualifizierten europäischen Nationen nach Österreich kommen, um an der Polo Europameisterschaft 2010 teilzunehmen. Polo ist kein Massensport wie Fußball, aber es ist uns ein Anliegen, die Polo Europameisterschaft 2010 zu nutzen, um diesen Sport für alle Interessierte zugänglich zu machen.“
Die Federation of International Polo (FIP) hat offiziell 18 Nationen zur Teilnahme an der Europameisterschaft eingeladen: Belgien, Deutschland, England, Finnland, Frankreich, Irland, Italien, Luxemburg, Malta, Niederlande, Österreich, Polen, San Marino, Schweden, Schweiz, Slowakei, Spanien und Ungarn.

8th European Polo Championship 2010 in Ebreichsdorf
From 2nd to 12th September, 2010 the Polo Club Ebreichsdorf in Austria will be the focus of the European polo scene. Nine nations have already confirmed their participation.
At the Federation of International Polo (FIP, www.fippolo.com) General Assembly in spring 2009 Austria was confirmed as the host nation for the 2010 European Polo Championship. Richard Drasche-Wartinberg, president of the Austrian Polo Association (www.poloclub.at) won over the committee with a persuasive presentation of the merits of the Polo Club Ebreichsdorf, which has been holding several major annual tournaments, such as the Austrian Polo Open, the Sal. Oppenheim Cup, and the President’s Cup for almost 20 years.
The European Championship host is looking forward to the events this summer: “It is an opportunity for us to further develop and establish the sport of polo on a national level as the best players from all the participating countries will be coming to Austria to take part in the European Championship. Polo is not a mass sport like football, however, we think it is important for us to use the occasion of the 2010 European Polo Championship to open the sport to everyone who is interested in it.”
