Polo action in Ghantoot continues

On Tuesday the 2014 HH President of UAE Polo Cup started with matches of group A (POLO+10 reported), yesterday the tournament continued with the first matches of group B.

In the first match of the day team Abu Dhabi encountered team Desert Palm. At first Desert Palm was in the lead, but in the second chukka Abu Dhabi took the lead and extended their lead with Alfredo Cappella (+6) scoring four times in the third chukka. Desert Palm could not offer much in reply to this and in the end Abu Dhabi came off with a clear 8-4 victory. Playmakers of the match were Alfredo Cappella and Santiago Laborde (+5). Alfredo Cappella scored seven out of eight goals for his team Abu Dhabi and Santiago Laborde scored all four goals for Desert Palm.

The second match of the day between Zedan Polo Team and ADCB Polo Team from Ghantoot ended with a definite result as well. Even though 10 goaler Pelon Stirling played for Zedan, the team could not prevail against their opponent and in the end had to admit defeat against ADCB from Ghantoot by 9-6. Both teams had started on nearly the same level, but in the third chukka ADCB scored four times and thereby took the lead. Zedan could not make up for leeway during the final chukka. Due to an injury during the second chukka, Facundo Sola had to be replaced by Juan Zavalita.

Today all eight teams can take a rest. Tomorrow, Friday, January 17th at 3.00 pm (local time) the tournament will continue with the match between UAE Polo Team and Ghantoot Al Bast. Subsequently the teams Bin Drai and Al Habtoor Polo will encounter each other at 5.00 pm (local time).
