St. Moritz Polo World Cup on Snow

St. Moritz Polo World Cup on Snow returns and celebrates its birthday! From January 30th to February 2nd, 2014, the spectacle takes place for the 30th time on the frozen Lake St. Moritz. Four high goal teams with a handicap from +15 to +18 will participate in the long-standing tournament and compete against each other. Each year thousands of spectators come the Engadin in Switzerland to see the matches in front of the magnificent mountain backdrop.

This year’s team sponsors are Cartier, BMW, Ralph Lauren and Deutsche Bank with Cartier also presenting the coveted trophy. On Saturday a gala cocktail dinner takes place at the Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains. The final match for the Cartier trophy will be held on Sunday, February 2nd at 2 pm.

St. Moritz is one of the cradles of the game of polo in continental Europe. Since 1985 it is home to the St. Moritz Polo World Cup on Snow, the world’s most prestigious polo tournament on snow. The tournament had to be cancelled in 2012 for the first time ever because the lake was not frozen hard enough. To prepare the horses for the cold and the special demands of conditions at 1,800 metres above sea level, many of them will be undergoing special altitude training in the days and weeks leading up to the World Cup.
