Ibiza Charity Polo Cup 2013

Tomorrow the first Ibiza Charity Polo Cup in aid of AECC takes place at the Ibiza Polo Club. Ranked in The Sunday Times Top 50 events of summer, the first edition of The Ibiza Charity Polo Cup is the sporting spectacle that’s shaping up to set a new standard in Ibiza fundraisers. Organised in aid of the Ibiza & Formentera delegation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer, AECC, the event is confirmed to take place on Saturday June 8th at the Ibiza Polo Club, Sant Joan.
Local company Ibiza Delivers, organisers of the event, have been working steadily to put together a programme of activities both on and off the field; the aim of the day being to raise both funds and awareness for the local branch of the national cancer association. The annual Club’s sponsors (Jaeger-LeCoultre, Louis Roederer Champagne) will also be actively present and take part in this non-lucrative event, as well as one-shot displays of many other brands.
As for players taking place in the tournament, Ibiza Delivers’ Director, David Max, has enlisted the help of professionals including Nic Roldan (+8), a glittering reference both in the polo and modelling worlds, Alejandro Novillo Astrada (+8), another champion belonging to one of iconic families of Argentine polo; not to mention the current president of the Spanish Federation of Polo, Jaime Espinosa de los Monteros (+1). Other players confirmed on the day are Gaston Laulhe (+7), international winner in England, Dubai and St Moritz, and Anuschka Bahlsen (-1), heiress to the German sweet cake empire of the same name, is amongst the female players lined up.
On the other side of the fence, models Poppy and sister Cara Delevingne – hailed as the new Kate Moss and the current face of Burberrys- will be joined by a host of other well known faces from the sporting, fashion, music and media worlds, all in support of the fundraising efforts of Ibiza Delivers for the AECC. The Club will open its doors to the public at five pm, followed by the polo game at seven pm, and will also host an auction in favour of the association and an After Polo Party later in the night.
Throughout the day, a picnic, barbecue, Serrano and sushi bar will keep hunger at bay and for the children, entertainment from Cachirulo amongst other activities. Post tournament, it’s the charity auction with a select number of luxury lots up for bidding. To date, donations include villa holidays from International Villas; a home treatment package from Ibiza Retreats, a Private Dining experience with a top chef and bar service for 14 people thanks to Ibiza Delivers & The Bar, two nights in Atzaró with spa session and a beautiful Jaeger-LeCoultre timepiece among many others.
The Ibiza Polo Club itself, opened in 2011, is situated in the heart of Sant Joan, in the north of the island of Ibiza and has already played host to a number of polo matches in its short history.
The idea of holding Ibiza Charity Polo Cup for the AECC came about partly as a result of previous collaborations between the Spanish Cancer Association and island resident and renowned DJ Anthony ‘Antz’ Bryans, who will be taking charge of the music at the event with the help of his very special guests TBC. Bryans, himself a cancer survivor, works continuously for both the AECC and Teenage Cancer Trust, playing a key role in a variety of other events for both organisations, both on and off the island. Also confirmed to perform at the event is Gipsy Moreno, ex-member of the legendary group of musicians, the Gipsy Kings, famed for bringing ‘Rumba Catalana’ to the masses.
From David Max’s point of view, “The Ibiza Charity Polo Cup is an event designed exclusively to help the Ibiza & Formentera delegation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer. All members and organizers are volunteering their time, energy and equipment free or at minimal costs because our inspiration is simply to donate as much money as possible to the Ibiza Association for its oncology patients. Our intention is to re-set the clock in terms of how events on the island raise money for charities.”
Sue Mari, Vice President of the AECC Ibiza & Formentera said that the organisation was “once again delighted with local efforts to raise much needed funds for the island’s oncology patients. Thanks to Ibiza Delivers for their brilliant and original initiative and of course, as always to Antz for getting the ball rolling!”
