Piaget is new sponsor of Ellerstina

This week the 2013 Argentine Triple Crown started and just in time two big names in the world of polo have joined forces. The world-renowned Swiss watch manufacturer and luxury brand Piaget is new sponsor of the successful polo team Ellerstina. This year the “black shirts” again are counted among the favourites of the three tournaments of the Argentine Triple Crown, a series of the most important and prestigious tournaments worldwide. At the Tortugas Open and the Argentine Open Ellerstina starts as the defending champion. At last year’s Hurlingham Open the Pieres-team was placed second.

Piaget has been associated with polo for over three decades. In 1979 Piaget presented a distinctive, innovative and fashionable collection that created a revolution in the international jet-set community: the legendary “Piaget Polo”, which became an instant success. Thirty years later, in 2009 to celebrate the 30th anniversary, Piaget introduced another outstanding fashionable collection: the Piaget Polo FortyFive, representing elegance, boldness and sportiness, all embodying the spirit of polo. And the connection between Piaget and polo goes even further: In the past Piaget has participated in tournaments in the US, Argentina, China and throughout Europe. Since 2006 Piaget is the principal partner of the International Polo Club of Palm Beach and the luxury brand also hosted the USPA Gold Cup in Palm Beach.

The Ellerstina team with its handicap of +39 is one the most successful teams in the world and is composed of members of the Pieres-family. Facundo Pieres (+10) is one of the best polo players worldwide. At the age of 27 the +10-goaler has already won the most significant tournaments around the world. Additional members of the team are his older brother Gonzalo Pieres jr. (+10) and his younger brother Nicolás Pieres (+9). Polo legend Mariano Aguerre (+10) makes the foursome complete. He is counted among the best polo players in the last two decades and is married to Tatiana Pieres, sister of the aforementioned Pieres-brothers, and daughter of Gonzalo Pieres Sr. From now on the foursome will wear the legendary black shirts displaying the Piaget logo.
