Polo Championship and thoroughbred Arabs

To expand their reputation as a horse city, the city of Scottsdale, Arizona invests a total of 33 million Euros for an expansion of the riding centre Westworld. Every year more than 70 horse events take place in there, after the reconstruction the number of these events shall rise considerably. The reconstruction will take until the end of next year to create a air-conditioned arena. Furthermore a 3,700 square meters large exhibition hall providing more space for additional big events will be build. The project is financed through the city, private investors and proceeds of the riding centre.
The work at Westworld has to stop for the Polo Championship on the 20th of October 2012. High-class teams are awaited for the biggest polo event in Arizona. Among others: the Harvard University and the charity organization Work to Ride – the team won the American Polo School Championship as the first Afro-American high school team in 2011.
Work to Ride was founded as non-profit organization in 1994 and allows disadvantaged children and youngsters from Philadelphia to take riding lessons and sports. Team captain is Kareem Rosser, playing for Work to Ride since he was 8 years old.
Furthermore an encounter of the teams The Hamtons, lead by the +10-scorer and US-Open winner Tommy Biddle jr., and Bel Air Polo with team captain Nic Roldan, one of the best American polo players.
After the polo games a preview of the 58th “Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show“ will be shown, the show presents 2,400 Arabs from all over the world in the riding centre Westworld from the 14th to the 24th of February 2013. The victory of the challenge, competed since 1955, rises the value of a horse enormously. Last year more than 3,000 spectators came to the riding centre. The admission fee lies between 10 and 15$, children younger than 12 are free. The Arabian Horse Association of Arizona organizes this horse show. With the end of the show the second phase of the Westworld- reconstruction starts and shall be ended latest in the end of 2012.
The “Arabian Breeder Finals“ are a dress rehearsal for the prestigious Arab-show and take place at Westworld from the 10th to the 13th of October 2012. Breeders have the chance to show their best Arab-horses of their stable during the show. In final competitions price moneys of a total of 70,000 Euros are winnable.
