Glittering snow, dreamlike locations, thrilling snow polo chukkas and high society around the playing field – the BMW Polo Masters Tour is one of the sporting and social highlights of the French Winter sports season.
The first snow polo event is the Val d’Isère tournament from January 16th – 19th, 2013. This tournament, now in 2013 in its fifth year, takes place at the foot of the famous ski piste known as ‘la face de Bellevarde‘, which has previously hosted such events as the men’s downhill in the 1992 Olympic Games and the Alpine Ski World Cup in 2009. Four teams will be competing in this anniversary tournament for the Les Barmes Trophy Pro Am, including the winning team from the past three years, Les Barmes de l’Ours.
The motto for 2013 in three of France’s best-known ski resorts is once more ‘Bring polo to the people, not the people to polo.‘ As Jean Yves Delfosse, organiser of the BMW Polo Masters Tour, says, “The BMW Polo Masters Tour is open to everyone. We want to make access to polo easy, and that’s why we hold the tournaments in popular holiday locations and not in polo clubs. That means that the spectators are closer to the polo and are better able to follow what’s happening on the playing field. The BMW Polo Masters Tour is the most important event for giving amateurs the chance to show off their sport to a wide audience.”
