Ready, steady, go!

The Snow Polo World Cup is one of the most important polo tournaments in Europe and the most important and renowned snow polo tournament in the world. Each year, polo players from all over the world come to St. Moritz in Switzerland to participate in the high goal tournament and to fight for the trophy in front of an international audience and of a magnificent scenery. 30 years ago, in 1985, the native-born Engadin Reto Gaudenzi, back then manager of the legendary Badrutt‘s Palace in St. Moritz, had the idea to play polo on the frozen Lake St. Moritz.

Last year’s winning team Cartier will once again take part, this year including Spencer McCarthy (+1), Charlie Wooldridge (+2), Chris Hyde (+6) and Nacho Gonzalez (+6) from Great Britain. Hyde has previously won the St. Moritz tournament five times; he is currently regarded as the world’s best snow polo player. But the international line-up of the Snow Polo World Cup has even more to offer: players from Brazil, the USA, Argentina, Italy, Switzerland and Spain have announced their attendance. Today a presentation of the teams will be held at 6.30 a.m. at Kulm Hotel in St. Moritz. Furthermore, a press conference will take place tomorrow at 10.30 p.m. in the VIP tent next to the playing field.

Tomorrow the first match will start at 12.00 p.m. with team Perrier-Jouët encountering title holder Cartier. At 2.15 a.m. team Maserati will face team Badrutt’s Palace Hotel. As always, entry to the St. Moritz Snow Polo World Cup is free—including access to the stands. Local chefs superintended by Badrutt’s Palace Hotel will present a vast array of culinary specialties to the public. The guests in the VIP area will enjoy the treats of star chef Reto Mathis.

Tournament magazine Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz

For the first time POLO+10 has produced the tournament magazine for this top-class event, which will be organised by Reto Gaudenzi and his team of Evviva Polo St. Moritz AG. The POLO+10 tournament magazine gives an overview of all players, teams as well as the playing times of the tournament and provides the most important information regarding the sport of polo and its special requirements when played on snow. Furthermore the magazine takes a look at the Hall of Fame, revives last year’s chukkas and presents the holiday destination St. Moritz.
