Santa María Polo Club has prepared an outstanding Spring Season with an intense polo tournament calendar for the medium and low handicaps, that will start in the upcoming Easter Holidays.
The season begins with the 36th edition of the renowned Memorial José Ignacio Domecq tournament, and closes on June 28th when the preparations for the Land Rover International Polo Tournament begin to take place. The Land Rover International Polo Tournament has recently been granted more points on the World Polo Tour (www.worldpolotour.com).
For 2015, the club has planned a calendar emphasising the medium handicap preparing teams for the Summer Season. The last edition of this prestigious event received 16 medium handicap teams, with the winner of the category being the German team Equus headed by patron Peter Silling with the sensational player James Beim leading the way.
The first medium goal tournaments of the season, The XXXVI José Ignacio Domecq Memorial and XXIII Conde de Guaqui Memorial are exciting 8-goal competitions that invite all teams to join. With these tournaments, the tourist flow in Sotogrande increases, where visitors can enjoy proper “polo shopping”, a pleasant lunch or Sunday brunches while enjoying the matches.
April ends with the International Day Tournament, that will see Spain and Ireland fight for the victory in the 12-goal event. With the arrival of June the Santa María Open is due to kick off with three consecutive weekends 2 extremely competitive tournaments. Many teams that are participating this summer in the Land Rover International Polo Tournament have already signed up for the Open to set foot on Andalusian grounds.
