On Sunday November 4th, 2012, the Sydney Polo Club played host to Australia’s most prestigious competition on the polo calendar – The Sydney Gold Cup.
Nestled at the foot of The Blue Mountains, 16 Polo teams turned out at the historic Sydney Polo Club, to fight it out for the honour of winning this prestigious tournament.
Players arrived from as far as Argentina to play in the event, however, in a one-sided Sydney affair, Sydney BLACK outplayed the Windsor Polo Club 11-9 in the 8-goal division. While in the 4-goal, Sydney WHITE toppled El Establo 10-6.
An exclusive fashion on the field was also showcased, hosted by iconic Polo brand Ralph Lauren. While a celebrity cycling match saw actors, Olympians and models battle it out in a one-of- a-kind polo match played on bicycle including Tammy Macintosh, Conrad Colby, prolific artist Charles Billich, Lucy Apoyan, Charlotte Best, Iolande Skinner, Ian Stenlake, Tali Jatali and Scott Tweedie.
The VIP marquee over-flowed with champagne, canapés, and a gourmet country lunch, fully equipped with a DJ to adding to the uber-cool Polo experience.
Members of the Australian Light Horse Brigade escorted the procession of the eight goal onto the field of the opening game. At half time the public took to the fields and tread back in the grass divots before the umpires dropped a golden horse-shoe.
In a unique visual display — more than 200 rare classic and super formed a border around the event.
