Team Twiga/Cipriani triumphs in Monte Carlo

On the past weekend, four polo teams conformed by top international polo players competed against each other in the 2nd edition of the Monte-Carlo Polo Cup, organized by Francesco Mitrano, president and founder of the Monte-Carlo Polo Club. POLO+10 was present at the tournament.

From Thursday, 3rd July to until Sunday evening, 6th July the exclusive jet set location of Monaco was filled with polo fans eager to cheer for their favourite players. This was also an event not missed by the Monegasque high society, eager to attend to this much awaited tournament. On Friday, after the four teams paraded around the centre of the Principality, in the legendary Hotel de Paris (POLO+10 reported), the match that was taking place that day had to be suspended due to the heavy rain, but luckily, Saturday had a splendid sunshine that dried the field, and the tournament had its start.

Team Twiga/Cipriani integrated by Bryan Lynam (+1), Facundo Fernández Llorente (+5) and Martín Joaquin (+4), and team Maserati formed by Piero Dillier (+1), Lucas Labat (+7) and Werner Meier (+1) opened the tournament with the first match where Twiga/Cipriani won for 8-7.

Then team EFG Bank Monaco with Bash Kazi (+1), Tarquin Southwell (+5) and Tito Gaudenzi (+3) played a very thrilling match against team Cartier formed by Francesco Mitrano (+1), Eva Brühl (+3) and Pedro Fernández Llorente (+5) ending with a triumph of team Cartier for 13-10.5.

Sunday was another perfect weather day in Monte Carlo, and the polo fans came back to the tent, where sponsor La Martina kept the guests entertained in the polo breaks, as the brand set up a stunning Argentinian-style stand showcasing their most desired and popular products that called the attention of all polo equipment shoppers, waiting to get their new shirts. In La Martina’s Argentine living room, one also could see the player interviews for Italian television taking place, and even Mr. Flavio Briatore, the renowned Italian businessman, curious to get one of their trademark products.

Two more matches took place, for the finals and the semi-finals respectively: first, the semi-finals were played between Maserati and EFG Bank Monaco, Maserati winning by a narrow margin 12-11. Finally, after a break, the much awaited finals came, between team Cartier and Twiga/Cipriani, resulting on a win by 10-4 for Team Twiga/Cipriani who joyfully accepted the Cartier cup.

The afternoon closed with a hat contest, where we could see the most inventive and fashionable hats worn by the women of the Monegasque high society, one more touch of glamour added to the already stylish weekend in Monte-Carlo. The tournament ended with a gala dinner at Monte-Carlo Beach Club.
