Tomorrow the semi-finals of the 42nd edition of the Torneo Internacional Land Rover de Polo start at the Santa María Polo Club in Sotogrande. Yesterday the last semi-finalists of the high goal Copa de Oro Hublot emerged from the penalty shootout between Ayala, UAE Polo Team and HB Polo Team. Winners were Sheika Maitha (0), Sebastian Merlos (+9), Lucas Monteverde (+10) and Santiago Stirling (+3) of UAE Polo Team and Ludovic Pailloncy (+2), Sebastien Pailloncy (+3), Ignacio Toccalino (+8) and Juan Ignacio Merlos (+9) of HB Polo Team. They converted the highest amount of penalties and by this joined Dubai Polo Team with Rashid Albawardy (+2), Martin Valent (+5), Adolfo Cambiaso (+10) and Patricio Cieza (+5) as well as Ellerston with Ali Patterson (+2), John Williams (0), Gonzalo Pieres (+10) and Facundo Pieres (+10) in the semi-final. The Dubai Polo Team and Ellerston had already qualified for the semi-finals on Sunday and Monday. Tomorrow, UAE Polo Team will meet Dubai Polo Team with world-class player Adolfo Cambiaso, while HB Polo Team encounters Ellerston with the Pieres brothers Facundo and Gonzalo.
The semi-finalists of the medium goal Copa de Oro Valecuatro emerged yesterday as well. Cheval de Andes / Esperanza won against La Indiana by 11-7, Woodchester narrowly defeated Bardon Polo Team by 11-10, Equus also narrowly won against Costa Rica by 12-11 and Sapphire / Bayswater London Gin defeated Saint Mesme by 9-7. In the semi-finals, which will be held on Friday, August 30th, Cheval de Andes / Esperanza encounters Woodchester and Equus meets Sapphire / Bayswater London Gin.
In tomorrow’s semi-finals of the low goal Copa de Oro Makarthy Los Dragones will meet Windmill Farm and Silex will encounter Mahra Polo Team.
The Torneo Internacional Land Rover de Polo is one of the most important tournaments of Spain’s polo season in Sotogrande. 32 teams participate in the 42nd edition of the competition, a record in the history of the prestigious tournament. The final matches for the Copa de Oro will be held on August 31st and September 1st.
