Yesterday the second semifinalist was decided in the last qualifying games of the 112th U.S. Open Polo Championship, which is held at the International Polo Club Palm Beach, located in Wellington, Florida.
In the first match team Audi, consisting of Marc Ganzi (1), Gonzalo Pieres (9), Rodrigo Andrade (9) and Freddie Mannix (7), faced Lucchese, including John Muse (0), Magoo Laprida (8), Nico Pieres (8) and 10-goaler Sapo Caset. It was a very close match, which was decided in the last minutes. Just before the end of the last chukka, Lucchese was in the lead by 7-6, but then Gonzalo Pieres tied at 7-7 and Marc Ganzi scored the winning goal, leading his team Audi to victory by 8-7.
The second encounter saw Orchard Hill, including Steve van Andel (0), Facundo Pieres (10), Julian De Lussareta (6) and Juan Martin Nero (10), dominating Melissa Ganzi (0), Agustin Merlos (9), Sebastian Merlos (9) and Nic Roldan (8) of team FlexJet and thus triumphed by 14-8. By winning this match, Orchard Hill has qualified for the semifinals, which are due on Wednesday, 20 April 2016.
On Wednesday team Dubai, including 10-goaler Adolfo Cambiaso, playing with Rashid Albwardy (2), Alejo Taranco (6) and Facundo Sola (8), earned the first berth in the semifinal by defeating Mariano Obregon (7), Hilario Ulloa (9), Mariano Aguerre (9) and Peter Brant (1) of team White Birch by 14-6. Before this team Valiente, consisting of Bob Jornayvaz (2), Santi Torres (7), Tomas Garcia del Rio (8) and Alfredo Capella (9), was successful against Gillian Johnston (2), Sugar Erskine (7), Julio Arellano (8) and Miguel Astrada (9) of team Coca Cola by 11-7.
Next matches of the 112th U.S. Open Polo Championship will be the “Mini Quarters”, taking place on Sunday, 17 April. At 12.00 pm White Birch will face Lucchese and at 3.00 pm Audi will compete against Valiente. The semifinals will be held on Wednesday, 20 April 2016, starting at 10.00 am.
