The Argentine photographer Emiliano Lasalvia was presented with the first prize at the World Press Photo Award in the category „Sports Action Singles“. His photo „POLO FALL“ shows a fall of the +10 goaler Pablo Mac Donough during the Argentine Open. Horse and rider were unhurt. Pablo Mac Donough received a severe blow on his head, but the mare instinctively felt his fall, raised her leg and so barely touched the +10 goaler. Pablo Mac Donough got up and was able to continue the match immediately.
At the end, the team La Dolfina Hope Funds with Adolfo Cambiaso (+10), David Stirling (+9), Sebastian Merlos (+9) and Pablo Mac Donough (+10) not only won the 120th Argentine Open, but also the Argentine Triple Crown in 2013 (POLO+10 reported).
Since 1995 the World Press Photo Award is awarded annually and in several categories honours the best and most impressive photos of the year. The World Press Photo is considered as the most prestigious and coveted award in photo-journalism.
