Polo Morocco

The Swiss Ambassador in Morocco, Massimo Baggi, playing alongside Michele Cattadori,  Attila Tanzi and Ignacio Tegerina won the first edition of  the Ambassador’s Polo Cup at the PGH La Palmeraie Polo Club, next to the beach Sidi Mghait in the south of Tangier/Morocco.

Four teams took part in this first edition of the Ambassador’s Polo Cup: Beside Team Switzerland, CONSULT IT featured Mehdi Nsiri, Yasssine Daouda, Simohamed Daoud and Khalid Lakhmiri. For Team Jnan Amar Polo Club started Adrien Chapoutot, Patrick De Guillebon as well as Bruno and Baptiste Rossi. PGH La Palmeraie Polo Club saw Nacho Silvestre, Gergely Juhász, Daniel Hurstel and Willy Lopez competing for goals.

Team Switzerland emerged victorious from the first round against CONSULT IT with 7 – 5 goals, before beating Team Jnan Amar in a thrilling match with 8 – 5 in the final encounter on Sunday. The other duel of the day, which decided about the third place in this Ambassador’s Polo Cup, saw the victory of the Moroccan team CONSULT IT by defeating Team PGH Palmeraie Polo Club with 7 – 2.

Team La Mariposa-Lexus is the winner of the Patron’s Tour 2019 Ritz-Carlton Residences Cup held at the Marrakech Polo Club. Four teams took part in the international tournament with the final match being won by the La Mariposa-Lexus team, which defeated La Palmerie-La Martina 4-2 for the title. Marrakech Polo Club was well presented in the winning team, with member Patrick de Guillebon, Club Pro Mariano Darritchon and the rising star Nini Yassine Douada. Ahmed Aminu, visiting from Nigeria, completed the winning team. La Palmerie comprised Brits Dick Hooper and Sean Mahoney, as well as Martin Magal  (Slovenia) and Ignacio Tejerina (Argentina).

Winner of the subsidiary final (Lexus Cup) became Team Ritz-Carlton Residences, Marrakech. In this final the up and coming star Baptiste Rossi succeeded in his first international tournament, playing alongside the brothers Luca and Fabio Meier from Switzerland and pro Mariano Lopez from Argentina. Marrakech Polo Club-Franck Dubarry (English Nadia Whitelock, Argentine Adolfo Casabal, Swiss Ambassador Massimo Baggi and Italian Lichele Cattadori) made it to the fourth place.

Players from eight different countries participated in this fun-filled tournament with a public of around 300 spectators over the weekend, in a region where polo is gaining momentum.

In September 2018 the Lawyers Polo Association is hosting its tenth anniversary polo tournament in Morocco. This new edition of Lawyers Polo will bring together lawyers from all around the world to share a week of polo and networking. The central idea of Lawyers Polo is to create the environment for the exchange of ideas and professional experiences in the most exclusive polo clubs in the world.

“Our goal is to generate sports, personal and professional bonds among lawyers through polo” explains Eduardo Bérèterbide, founder of Lawyers Polo Association and attorney at Shearman & Sterling in Paris. The opening black-tie cocktail of the tenth anniversary of Lawyers Polo will be held in an exclusive residence in Tangier, Morocco. It will take place on 24 September 2018 and will be attended by lawyers, businessmen and polo players from all over the World. The polo matches will take place La Palmeraie, the stunning polo club of Patrick Guerrand-Hermès Lawyers which has three polo fields less than 100 metres away from the Atlantic Ocean. The final matches, awards ceremony and closing party will take place on 29 September 2018.

Eight polo teams will be taking part in Lawyers Polo 2018 Including players from Argentina, Austria, Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, India, Marruecos, Malaysia, Portugal, Slovakia, Singapore, Switzerland, Chile, Venezuela, United Kingdom and the United States.

The 2018 Armed Forces International Polo Tournament in Abuja / Nigeria ended on Sunday with the Warriors of Morocco emerging champions after defeating their Pakistani counterparts by 11 goals to 6. The four-day event which took place at the 1212 Polo Club in Abuja featured teams from six countries such as Nigeria, Morocco, the U.S., India, Pakistan and Egypt.

The finalists Pakistan and Morocco started the game with much enthusiasm and were at par for most of the first and second chukka. But Morocco ended the third chukka with a slight lead and by the end of the fourth overran their opponents.

The final event was attended by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, who represented President Muhammadu Buhari, as well as the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali. Femi Asenuga, the Managing Director of Mutual Benefits Life Assurance Ltd.: “This is something that is on the national spotlight. It is an event that brought great teams from great countries to Nigeria.“
