The East Coast Open was founded in Rhode Island in 1905 and was played until World War I. At its height 13 teams played in the 14-20 goal tournament, including many 10 goal players such as Mariano Aguerre, Mike Azzaro, Tommy Biddle, and Gonzalo Pieres, Sr. who inspired a lot of today’s players to pick up their mallets.

Pijaubert Polo School
The Riviera Polo Club is not just a place to watch, discover and play polo. It is also a place to learn. Teaming up with the Pijaubert Polo School, run by Jamie & Alexia Pike, the club offers polo initiations for curious polo enthusiasts and also polo & riding lessons for confirmed players looking to improve their game. One can start playing polo at any age with any level of riding experience. The Pijaubert Polo School, which houses Argentine criollo ponies and a hitting cage with a wooden horse, also hosts bi-annual tournaments, high-profile events and exciting polo demonstrations.
Polo Holidays
For those seeking relaxation away from the traffic snarls of the coast, the club has developed a custom-designed Polo Holiday that accommodates guests in private apartments on the premises. Whether it’s poolside cocktails, family-style barbecues at the main house or an Argentine asado on the field, the mood is relaxed and convivial. Along with the opportunity to improve polo skills, students can enjoy horseback-riding excursions on a trail through the protected natural reserve of Fondurane, which gradually winds down to the clear blue waters of the lake Saint-Cassien. They can also take full advantage of the swimming pool, the nearby outdoor Provencal markets and top-notch country-style restaurants, only a short drive away.
