Polo is an institution in Deauville. It has been played in the centre of the racecourse since 1880 and since 1950 it has been the venue for one of the most prevalent tournaments in the world: the famous Coupe d‘Or, which starts this year on 14 August and ends on 29 August. Taking part in such a competition, the highest international level played in France, requires the teams to be very well prepared. This is why they will compete in „friendly games“ from 8 August when the Deauville International Polo Club will open its doors to the public.

Yet there will be already some competition from 12 August when three women‘s teams will compete in the Ladies Polo Cup, with the final to be played on 14 August. Women‘s polo is expanding rapidly throughout the world and Deauville is no exception to this phenomenon. And on the field, the women are as fierce as the men!

From 14 August onwards, all eyes will turn towards the men‘s polo. There will be one question on everyone’s mind: who will win the 71st edition of the legendary Coupe d’Or  (Gold Cup) that nearly every great player in the history of polo has won since 1950? This year, six very competitive teams will throw their hat into the ring.

Amongst the participants, there are no less than five players of Argentine Open level or Copa Camara winners, including a certain Camilo ‚Jeta‘ Castagnola (8), a gifted member of the young Argentine generation, who is the Talandracas’ headliner alongside Tomas Beresford (7), winner of the last French Open and of the 2021 Queen‘s Cup. The two French 6-goalers, Pierre-Henri N‘Goumou and Brieuc Rigaux will face each other, already promising some spectacular actions. The French Pommeray HM Polo team also looks very strong with the return of “little” Rufino Bensadon, who has grown since he last was in Deauville in 2018 and is now handicap 7, alongside Juan-Gris Zavaleta (7), both winners of the Copa Camara. Martin Aguerre (7), also a Copa Camara winner (2018) and a player in the Argentine Triple Crown, will be looking to lead Barrière to a second win in this tournament they claimed in 2014.

With such an array of great players, it is impossible to predict which team will succeed the Spanish team Marques de Riscal, holders of this Gold Cup title after a superb final last year against the Barrière team. Deauville’s most loyal team, Édouard Carmignac‘s Talandracas, will be looking for a seventh victory in this Gold Cup, which would constitute an absolute record.

Beyond this top-level sport, the program of this year’s Barrière Deauville Polo Cup offers other events: more polo, of course, with the Bronze Cup, some games of which will be played on the field of the Dozulé racecourse; beach polo, on Monday 9th August at 4.30 pm; the parade of the teams in the streets of Deauville on 28th August. In the mornings, before 9am, one can watch the polo horses being trained on the beach, an always very beautiful and photogenic moment. Last but not least, it is always a good idea to linger – before or after the games – in the polo village to shop at the Maison Décalé store or to taste the famous Mojitos from the Brok Café (in moderation of course) and maybe toast with the players!

Carbondale, CO, July 19, 2021— Casablanca defeated Victory Polo by 9-8 in overtime to claim the Craig Sakin Memorial title; Santa Rita was victorious in the Alpine Antler Cup, beating both Piocho Ranch and Rancho Los Amigos, while Mountain Chevrolet bested La Karina in the Just for the Love of It Cup.

In the final match of the Craig Sakin Memorial, Casablanca (Lauren Sherry, Alex Gooding, Torito Ruiz, and Grant Ganzi) met Victory Polo (Kevin Schmeits, Marc Ganzi, Nic Roldan, and Stewart Armstrong).

The match started with a foul only 30 seconds in giving Casablanca a Penalty 4. Unfortunately for the team in black, the shot was blocked. Less than a minute later, Victory Polo’s Nic Roldan sent a perfect pass to Stewart Armstrong, who put the first goal on the board. Casablanca’s Grant Ganzi scored on a Penalty 3, and the chukker ended 1-1.

Barely a minute into the second chukker, Kevin Schmeits found the goal, but at 4:28 Torito Ruiz answered by taking possession of the ball and smashing it downfield. It hit the ground just a few feet short of the posts and went through on the bounce to tie the score at 2 all. With just under a minute left, Roldan got the ball less than 20 yards from the goal and put Victory Polo ahead 3-2 at the end of the chukker. However, the excitement didn’t last for Victory as Casablanca kept them off the board in the thirdperiod. Ruiz evened the score, and a successful Penalty 2 from Grant Ganzi ended the half with Casablanca leading 4-3.

Victory Polo got their own back at the start of the second half, keeping Casablanca away from the uprights. Armstrong scored two consecutive goals to put Victory Polo back in the lead at 5-4. Just 30 seconds into the pentultimate chukker, Kevin Schmeits gave Marc Ganzi the perfect set-up to tap the ball through and extend Victory Polo’s lead to 6-4. With 3:34 on the clock, Ruiz took the score to 6-5 and at 1:15 he took advantage of a broken play to tie things up at 6-6. Ruiz started the final chukker with yet another goal, putting Casablanca back in the lead at 7-6. A Penalty 1 gave Victory Polo an automatic goal, once again tying the score up at 7-7. With 1:55 on the clock, Armstrong broke the tie after a successful run downfield with Ruiz in hot pursuit.

With five seconds remaining on the clock, Victory Polo surely though they had the match in the bag when the whistle sounded for a right-of-way violation. Grant Ganzi scored on the Penalty 2 to end the chukker 8-8 and send the match into overtime. Forty seconds into overtime, Ruiz took possession of the ball and slammed it downfield in a long shot that flew over the posts and gave Casablanca the win at 9-8. Toro Ruiz was named the Most Valuable Player while Pili, whom he played in the fifth chukker, took Best Playing Pony Honors.

In the Just for the Love of It subsidiary, La Karina (Govinda Quish, Brian Boyd, Sugar Erskine, and Nacho Badiola) took on Mountain Chevrolet (Michael Payne, Gussie Busch, Tomas Pieres, and Pablo Spinacci).

https://www.ettikonerhof.com/

Mountain Chevrolet seized control at the start of the match. Gussie Busch and Tomas Pieres both scored, and the team succeeded in keeping La Karina off the board. In the second chukker, Pieres took the score up to 3-0. The team in pink got their first goal of the day when Sugar Erskine put the ball through on a Penalty 4. The period ended 3-1 with Mountain Chevrolet in the lead. Pieres extended his team’s lead to 4-1 before Nacho Badiola scored to cut Mountain Chevrolet’s advantage to 2 and end the period 4- 2.

La Karina found their feet in the fourth chukker and played a strong defense to keep Mountain Chevrolet off the board. Erskine and Govinda Quish each scored to end the period with a 4-4 tie. Pieres put the first goal on the board in the pentultimate chukker, but Nacho Badiola found the posts to tie the game once again at 5-5. Pablo Spinacci put an end to this by scoring two consecutive goals to end the period with Mountain Chevrolet ahead 7-5. Another goal from Quish saw La Karina gaining ground, but Michael Payne scored to keep his team in the lead by two goals. Spinacci took the ball in to rack up the final goal of the day, and Mountain Chevrolet defeated La Karina by 9- 6. Pablo Spinacci was named the Most Valuable Player.

Earlier in the day, Rancho Los Amigos (Paul Foster, Larry Austin, Gonzalito Pieres, and Horacio Heguy), Piocho Ranch (Carolyn Likas, Nacho Figueras, Nacho Novillo Astrada, and Tom Barrack), and Santa Rita (Alejandra Foster, Melissa Ganzi, Alejandro Novillo Astrada and Juan Bollini) met in the finals of the round robin Alpine Antler Cup. Scores were carried over from the previous matches.

In the first game, Rancho Los Amigos met Piocho Ranch, each team starting with one goal on the board. Piocho won 5-4, with Nacho Figueras and Nacho Novillo Astrada each scoring two goals.

The second match saw Rancho Los Amigos go up against Santa Rita. Los Amigos started with two on the board, while Santa Rita had four. Each team scored three goals to leave Santa Rita in the lead at 7-5. Melisa Ganzi was the top scoring player with two goals to her credit.

In the third match, Santa Rita stayed on the field to face off against Piocho. The score at the start was 5-4, with Piocho in the lead. Nacho Novillo Astrada scored for Piocho, while Ganzi and Alejandro Novillo Astranda each put the ball through to end the match in a 6-6 tie. Santa Rita won the Alpine Antler Cup with a total score of +2, while Piocho took second place with +1 and Rancho Los Amigos took third with -3.

On Antelope’s heels throughout the first half of the 2020 Silver Cup® Final, Lucchese turned the scoreboard around in the third, gradually extending the lead to secure the coveted trophy 15-11 for the first time in six years. Long Island / Hanover, 20.07.2021 | (kms) – Just a few miles away from New York City is the “Sylt of New York”: Long Island known for being a hideaway for the rich and beautiful. In the popular Hamptons, New York’s upper class spends time at the beach, surfing and kayaking, or in one of the numerous restaurants. The island’s rich history is marked by American celebrities.

Immerse yourself in the world of Great Gatsby
Long Island’s Gold Coast allows you to immerse yourself in the glamorous era of the Great Gatsby. The author of the novel with the same name, F. Scott Fitzgerald, lived on Long Island from 1922 and is today considered one of the essential U.S. writers. Surrounded by magnificent gardens, the opulent mansions he describes in his novel were built in the elegant style of the 1920s and are now partly open to tourists. On guided tours through the magnificent estates with luxurious furnishings, visitors experience a journey back in time to the roaring 1920s and feel a real “Great Gatsby feeling”.

A Hollywood scenery you can touch
One of the impressive stately homes that also opens its doors to visitors is the “Old Westbury Gardens” estate. The formerly private country estate is not only as a museum in the midst of colorful show gardens but is also a popular location for cultural festivities or private parties. Some Hollywood celebrities also know and appreciate “Old Westbury Gardens”: Nicolas Cage and Joaquin Phoenix shot the film “8mm” here. But the tranquil estate is also used as a backdrop for productions such as “American Gangster” and “Gossip Girl.

Oheka Castle – The second largest mansion in the USA was built by a German
The majestic Oheka Castle is considered one of the most impressive buildings in the Hamptons. With its 125 individually decorated rooms, it is now used as a hotel. The French chalet was commissioned in 1914 by German banker and entrepreneur Otto Hermann Kahn, who used the property as a summer home. He organized glamorous parties in what is now the second largest mansion in the U.S., where heads of state and celebrities were welcome guests – very much in the style of the Great Gatsby.

Relaxing time out in nature

For those who do not want to think about the wild parties of the 1920s but looking for a relaxing time-out far away from the urban jungle, Long Island offers countless recreational opportunities. The bright sandy beaches are known as the most beautiful in the world and invite you to sunbathe or stroll along the boardwalk. The well-kept parks and idyllic forests of Long Island provide a unique place for extensive hikes and adventurous bike rides followed by picnics in the open air. A popular destination in the region is the Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park. Located near the town of Easter Bay on Long Island. The Park pleased visitors with several thousand species of plants planted in impressive formations. History buffs can visit the park’s Coe Hall Historic House Museum to learn about the history of the house and the families who once lived there.

About Discover Long Island
Discover Long Island was founded in 1979 under the name Long Island Convention and Visitors Bureau & Sports Commission as an official agency to promote the regional travel and tourism industry. The organization contributes to Long Island’s economic development and quality of life by promoting the region to the public as a top-rated destination for tourism, meetings and conventions, trade shows, sporting events and other major events.

Short, condensed, intense – this sums up the 2020 polo season! Nevertheless, we were offered numerous polo highlights.

It was a challenging 2020 polo season, with the omen often pointing to storm. It is all the more astonishing that, in the end, the review is consistently positive. Not only the team from Polo Park Zurich responded to the challenges of the pandemic with a perfect mix of flexibility, resilience and creativity, but in fact, the entire world of polo sports adapted with these attributes to unpredictable and frequently changing regulations that impacted  travel and event organization of the 2020 polo season.

One of the highlights was the Swiss Medium Goal Championship in Zurich, in which visitors were pampered with high-class games and South American flair. And with the German Low Goal Championship 2020 in Berlin, the first great tournament of the German Polo season was able to take place despite the pandemic restrictions.

Fortunately, the signs are now pointing towards optimism for the next season. There was even a tournament premiere to celebrate in June 2021: With twelve teams from eight countries, the first edition of the Polo Rider Cup in Chantilly, France, turned out to be a success and received a lot of media attention.

The anticipation remains and we hope for ride and play through a less stormy season.

LOUVRE ABU DHABI AND RICHARD MILLE CREATE NEW EXHIBITION AND ART PRIZE TO SHOWCASE RISING CONTEMPORARY ART TALENT

Louvre Abu Dhabi and Swiss watchmaking brand Richard Mille have jointly announced the launch of a new annual exhibition – to be called Louvre Abu Dhabi Art Here – and the creation of The Richard Mille Art Prize, with the aim of promoting the best of contemporary art. For its inaugural year, the exhibition and prize will shine a spotlight on Emirati and UAE-based artists as part of the UAE’s wider 50-year Jubilee celebrations.

Louvre Abu Dhabi Art Here will be an exciting new international exhibition which will serve as an annual platform to showcase contemporary artists working in a variety of media. Each year the exhibition will see four to six artists selected through an open call for proposals, with each exhibiting their artwork in the Forum, a space of interaction and exchange within Louvre Abu Dhabi dedicated to contemporary art. Louvre Abu Dhabi Art Here 2021 will take place in November of this year.

Following their submissions, one of the chosen artists will be awarded The Richard Mille Art Prize, with the announcement of the winner to take place in a ceremony organised at Louvre Abu Dhabi. The annual cash reward of US$50,000 will be part of a ten-year commitment between the museum and Richard Mille.

“The announcement of the creation of The Richard Mille Art Prize and the Louvre Abu Dhabi Art Here exhibition is the latest reminder that Abu Dhabi is accelerating its support and promotion of local creative talent, while simultaneously cementing its position as an attractive and inspiring destination for global creatives,” said HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi. “We already know that world-class artists live among us. This new prize and accompanying exhibition will serve to spotlight the best of current UAE artistic talent in a year where our nation is both celebrating 50 years of achievement and looking forward to the next 50.”

Today’s open call for proposals invites submissions from Emirati and UAE-based artists around the theme of ‘Memory, Time and Territory’. This theme has particular resonance in the context of the UAE‘s Jubilee celebrations, allowing artists to reflect on the country‘s legacy as a territory where questions of past, present and future combine and overlap. Proposals may be submitted until 31 August. The shortlist of candidates will be selected by a jury of international art experts, to be announced at a later date.

Peter Harrison, CEO of Richard Mille EMEA, said, “In a few short years, Louvre Abu Dhabi has become one of the most iconic art museums in the world. Richard Mille and Louvre Abu Dhabi are both built upon the tenets of excellence in innovation, artistry, mastery and savoir-faire. As an avid art collector, I have long been inspired by the visionary perspectives brought to light by contemporary artists. Therefore, I’m especially proud to see this collaboration between Louvre Abu Dhabi and Richard Mille come to life, dedicated to nurturing the next generation of artistic talent. The Richard Mille Art Prize will redefine the benchmarks of contemporary creativity, with a goal to offer exceptional artists the opportunity to create a new dimension of their potential.”

“Our partnership with Richard Mille represents a mutual, long-term commitment to supporting contemporary artistic talent within the UAE and this region, while connecting Louvre Abu Dhabi to its territory,” said Manuel Rabaté, Director of Louvre Abu Dhabi. “We aim to provide these artists with a highly visible platform from which to come together and showcase their work to both our community and the global audience. This initiative also represents a decisive step forward by Louvre Abu Dhabi into the arena of contemporary art, as we further expand on our mission to shine a light on the cultural connections which unite us all.”

The announcement of the winner of the inaugural Louvre Abu Dhabi Art Here 2021 and The Richard Mille Art Prize will run parallel to the UAE’s cultural season, which is made up of Dubai Expo 2020, Abu Dhabi Art, Dubai Design Week and Art Dubai; an exciting addition to a growing local calendar celebrating modern-day creativity. Louvre Abu Dhabi Art Here 2021 exhibition will run from November 2021 to March 2022.

Carbondale, CO, July 12, 2021— NetJets defeated Victory Polo by 7-5 to take the ChukkerTV Challenge Cup; Tonkawa beat White Claw 6-5 in the Just for the Love of It subsidiary, while McClure River Ranch bested Rancho Los Amigos by 7-4 in the Just for the Fun of It subsidiary.

The final match of the ChukkerTV Challenge Cup saw NetJets (Michael Payne, Alex Gooding, Sugar Erskine, and Nacho Figueras) take on Victory Polo (Alejandra Foster, Kevin Schmeits, Grant Ganzi, and Nic Roldan).

NetJets’ Alex Gooding kicked off the scoring action with a beautiful goal at the 4-minute mark. While NetJets failed to score again, they succeeded in keeping Victory off the goal. The second chukker began with NetJets leading 1-0. Two minutes into the period, Nacho Figueras took the ball downfield, leaving it for Michael Payne to finish off. NetJets, with a slightly more balanced team, continued to use all four players to good effect. Figueras picked up the ball and sent it to Sugar Erskine, who got out in front to take the ball up the field on the nearside. Switching to the offside, Erskine stayed in front to put the ball through and end the chukker 3-0. At the beginning of the third period, it was clear that Nic Roldan needed to take command, winning throw-ins and scoring goals to counter the more balanced NetJets’ team. He didn’t disappoint, coming out of the throw-in and running to goal. Grant Ganzi took the ball on a pass from Roldan, evaded an attempted hook by Figueras, and put the ball through with 4:41 on the clock. Michael Payne scored for NetJets, ending the half with NetJets leading by 4- 2.

NetJets continued to dominate in the fourth chukker, and Figueras found the goal with 3:38 on the clock. Alex Gooding, who was consistently contributing midfield and playing strong defense throughout the match, took the ball from Erskine and scored at 1:14. NetJets continued to play a tough defense and the period ended 6-2, with Victory unable to score during the chukker. In the pentultimate period, neither team was able to score until Grant Ganzi broke Victory’s dry spell to end the period 6-3. A minute and a half into the final chukker, Michael Payne put NetJets ahead by another goal then, at the four-minute mark, Ganzi cut NetJets’ lead to 7-4. Despite a strong effort by Victory and a final goal by Roldan, NetJets captured the ChukkerTV Challenge by 7-5.

Michael Payne took MVP honors, while ManRay, ridden by Nacho Figueras in the fifth chukker, was named Best Playing Pony.

Jeff Hildebrand and Jimmy Seward each put one on the board for Tonkawa, which ended the chukker 2-1. However, those were the only two goals Tonkawa was able to score in the first half. Alejandro Novillo Astrada scored again for White Claw in the second chukker, but that was it for goals in the first half of the match. Neither team was able to get on the board in a frustrating third period, and the half ended in a 2-2 tie.

Tonkawa played a stronger defense in the pentultimate chukker and kept White Claw from scoring while Nacho Novillo Astrada racked up another goal for Tonkawa. In the final chukker, goals from Jimmy Seward and Brian Boyd put Tonkawa ahead by two, at 6-4. A final goal from Alejandro Novillo Astrada ended the match with Tonkawa beating White Claw 6-5.
