11 April 2021, Dubai, UAE: The last of the qualifying matches for the Dubai Cup 2021 concluded with a win for Ankora – Dr. A and Habtoor Polo teams.

It was a slow first chukker with Tomy Iriarte scoring the first goal for Ankora – Dr. A Polo team. The team pushed the lead further during the second and created a 2.5 goal cushion and extended the winning stride through the end of the game, closing it at 6 goals to 2.5.

Match Progression:  1 – .5 | 4 – 1.5 | 5 – 2.5 | 6 – 2.5

The game between Habtoor Polo and Dubai IMMO Polo teams opened with a goal from Juanji Diaz Alberdi, setting Dubai IMMO ahead in the first chukker. Habtoor Polo responded with 3 goals during the second chukker and carved a 4-goal lead by the third. Dubai IMMO set on its tail managed to close the gap in scores but ultimately Habtoor Polo kept its significant goal lead to victory and ended the match at 7 goals to 4.

9 April 2021, Dubai, UAE: The first match of the afternoon was between El Basha and Dubai IMMO teams with Juanji Diaz Alberdi scoring the first goal from 60 yards.

Justo Cuitino took El Basha Polo on the lead with a 1 goal advantage by halftime. Ed Banner Eve extended the lead with 3 goals at the end of the third chukker. Dubai IMMO, with its work cut out for them, managed to close the gap in scores midway through the final chukker and Tomas Palacios Bacque created a tie with less than 2 minutes left on the clock. The intense play continued during the fifth chukker and Hani Jabshe scored the golden goal that sealed the win for the El Basha Polo team.

The next match was between AM Polo and Ankora/Dr. A with Dr Al Abbar nicking the first goal of the game. It was a fast first chukker with AM Polo grabbing the lead courtesy of Pablo Urquiza‘s consecutive goals. The next chukker ensued with the same rigour as Khalid Alomran levelled the game but, AM Polo closed the chukker with back to back goals and kept the 2-goal lead past halftime. The last chukker saw an intense play as AM Polo defended its position and Ankora/Dr. A attempted to create a tie close to the end of the game and it was Urquiza‘s penalty shot that sealed the win for AM Polo at 7 goals to 5.

The first day of the Dubai Cup 2021 featured a match between Habtoor Polo and AM Polo teams. The scores were close until halftime with AM Polo at a 1-goal advantage. The third chukker had seen a comeback from Habtoor Polo team by gaining on its opponent and ending the chukker with a 2-goal lead. Both teams racing for the win, AM Polo managed to close in on the gap in scores but Habtoor Polo.

This lead determined the outcome of the match in spite of efforts from AM Polo with the additional goals they have delivered. Ultimately the game ended at 8.5 goals to 5 in favour of Habtoor Polo team.

02 April 2021, Dubai, UAE: The polo action continues through the last few weeks of Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club‘s polo season as the AHPRC League 2021 has declared a new champion this March.

Ed Banner Eve opened the afternoon with a goal at the Subsidiary Final match between Baylandi Polo and IFZA-Mahra Polo. Baylandi Polo dominated the first chukker and closed it with 3 goal advantage. The team kept their lead all the way through the fifth chukker and ended the game at 5 goals to 2.

El Basha Polo faced Tratok-Hesketh at the tournament final and both teams were goal shy until Justo Cuitino scored the first goal for El Basha. It was a slow second chukker with both teams delivering a goal each by half time. The penultimate chukker had seen El Basha Polo took off with consecutive goals and closed the chukker with a 3 goal advantage. Tratok-Hesketh Polo team raced to close in on its opponent in the last minutes of the game with back-to-back goals from Raja Abuljebain and Tomy Iriarte. The intial lead by El Basha was enough to secure the win at 7 goals to 5.

 

 

Alefiya Shabir, Business Development and Techinical Manager of GIBCA Furniture Industry awarded the teams at the Subsidiary Final and Juanji Diaz Alberdi as the Most Valuable Player.

Martin G. Pedersen, Chairman of International Freezone Authority, awarded the teams at the AHPRC League 2021 Final.

ABU DHABI: With third straight victory, hosts Ghantoot stormed into the final 21st edition of the HH President of UAE Polo Cup and set up a mouthwatering clash with Habtoor.

The two most dominant teams of the UAE will go head-to-head in a highly anticipated final scheduled to take place at the Ghantoot Racing and Polo Club later.

The final scheduled for Friday has been cancelled after the death of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and the Minister of Finance, who passed away on Wednesday morning.

Zayed Khalifa Zayed Al Aboudi Al Zaabi, Executive Director of the Ghantoot Racing and Polo Club, expressed heartfelt condolences to Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and to Al Maktoum’s family, on the death of Sheikh Hamdan.

The showpiece event of the polo season is being held in the name of The President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and under the patronage of Sheikh Falah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Ghantoot Racing and Polo Club.

Ghanoot will be gunning for the second biggest title of the season after clinching the prestigious IFZA Gold Cup earlier.

The hosts qualified for the final following a narrow 10-9 win over Habtoor in the last qualifying round of matches held on Tuesday.

Raja Abul Jubain’s field goal put Habtoor ahead in the fifth minute of the game. Ghantoot responded immediately with Marcos Araya converting a 30- yard penalty.

Facundo Sola put through the post to give Habtoor slim lead by the end of first chukker. Ghantoot star and inform Argentine Pablo Llorente scored three in the second chukker to make it 4-3.

Quick to catch up was Sola scoring 2 goals for the team that levelled the game. Both the teams tried hard to gain upper hand as forth chukker saw flurry of goals.

The determining chukker had Marcos Araya score three goals that sealed the win for Ghantoot. Despite defeat, Habtoor advanced to the final after finishing second in the points table as they posted two victories in the previous rounds.

Delighted with the win and ticket for final, Llorente said: “Since we are the hosts of the tournament, so we want to lift President of UAE Polo Cup.

“Winning games in a row gives confidence to the team. We have really worked hard to reach here and looking forward to play in the finals where We have got to put our best foot forward and give our best out there,” he added.

Abu Dhabi Polo edged past Yas Holding Polo 11-10 in a thriller. They both will now play for subsidiary final of the event. Gonzalo Deltour scored six goals and played key role in their victory.

17 March 2021, Dubai, UAE: Tommy Beresford scored the first goal of the match with a penalty shot from 30 yards followed by another goal from Kian Hall which gave Dubai Wolves an early lead in the game.

The goals from Benjamin Panelo for AM Polo kept AM on its opponents tail through the penultimate chukker. The last chukker showed the defensive work from the Dubai Wolves and added 2 goals which secured their spot at the Subsidiary final of the tournament. The game ended at 7.5  goals to 4.

Match Progression: 2.5 – 1 | 3.5 – 2 | 5.5 – 4 | 7.5 – 4

Tratok/Hesketh Polo team showed a commanding lead from the start of the second game with the opening goal from Santos Iriarte. The team worked in a 3.5 goal advantage by halftime which IFZA/Mahra Polo struggled to catch up to. However, the final chukker saw a goal from Jacinto Amadori and a steal from Khalaf Al Habtoor which lead Tariq Al Habtoor to score the 4th goal for IFZA/Mahra. However, the significant goal advantage that Tratok/Hesketh Polo had, was enough to secure the win for the team at 6.5 goals to 4.

16 March 2021, Dubai, UAE: The third day of the Dubai Challenge Cup ended with double victories for Battistoni Polo and UAE Polo teams.

The first match of the afternoon featured Battistoni and Baylandi Polo, teams. Tomy Iriarte scored the first 2 goals which gave Battistoni Polo a head start in the game. The team increased their lead by the end of the by half time with the consecutive goals delivered by Tomy. The significant goal lead that Battistoni Polo had created was enough to secure the win at 7 goals to 3.

Match Progression: 2 – 0 | 0 – 5 | 5 – 1 | 7 – 3

The second half of the afternoon had spectators at the edge of their seats as UAE Polo and Bin Drai Polo teams brought their A-game on the field. Jacinto Crotto grabbed the initial lead for the UAE Polo team and was backed by a penalty shot from the team‘s patron – Sheikha Maitha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Quick to catch up was Rashid Bin Drai scoring 2 goals for the team that levelled the game by halftime. Defending the UAE Polo team‘s initial lead, Raja Abuljebain scored a last-second goal by the end of the penultimate chukker. The fourth chukker had UAE Polo team seem like it was close to victory however, Bin Drai Polo team‘s patron – Khalid Bin Drai nicked a goal at the very last second that resulted in a fifth chukker. Both teams raced to score the golden goal and it was Jacinto Crotto taking home the win for UAE Polo at 7 goals to 6.

The Dubai Challenge Cup 2021 will continue on the 17th of March at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club. Dubai Wolves will play against AM Polo at 15:15 and Tratok-Hesketh Polo will compete with IFZA – Mahra Polo at 16:30.

14 March 2021, Dubai, UAE: The Dubai Challenge Cup 2021 is well underway with its qualifying matches and has seen UAE Polo and Battistoni Polo teams win against their opponents on the second day of the tournament.

Tratok-Hesketh Polo team had shown strong gameplay early on the match as they had taken the lead through halftime. UAE Polo on their tail managed to shift the lead to their side by the third chukker as the team delivered consecutive goals with Jacinto Crotto closing with a half goal lead. The final chukker was a race for the win which Crotto managed to secure for UAE Polo and ended the game at 9 goals to 7.5.

Match Progression:  2 – 2.5 | 4.5 – 3 | 7 – 6.5 | 9 – 7.5

The second half of the afternoon featured a game between Battistoni Polo and AM Polo teams. The game was neck and neck from start to finish.  Benjamin Panelo scored the first goal of the match but was quickly matched by Alessandro Barnaba, patron of the Battistoni Polo team. Pierre Jauretche chalked up two goals and had taken the lead for Battistoni Polo by halftime  Panelo managed to score a 60-yard penalty shot at the penultimate chukker but Maxi Malacalza delivered an excellent goal with a pass from Tomy Iriarte. Battistoni Polo carved a 2 goal advantage early in the fourth chukker which AM Polo tried to catch up to. Pablo Urquiza narrowed this gap by a goal and given the time on hand and a seeming need for a fifth chukker, a penalty was called in favour of Battistoni with a few seconds left on the clock which did not leave much for AM Polo to work with. Battistoni claimed their first win in the tournament at 5 goals to 4.

12 March 2021, Dubai, UAE: The fourth tournament of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series has kicked off with two back to back games and has eight participating teams.

The first match between IFZA-Mahra Polo and Bin Drai Polo teams opened with a goal from Bautista Alberdi that was matched by Segundo Amadori that ended the chukker with 1 goal for each team. IFZA-Mahra Polo grabbed the lead with two penalty shots from Jacinto Amadori int he first half of the second chukker, however, the Bin Drai team was able to keep the scores at a tie with the last goal from Rashid Bin Drai.

Past halftime, Bin Drai created a 1 goal advantage and the game ended with a goal from Gelossi that gave Bin Drai Polo team a head start in the tournament.

Match Progression:  1 – 1 | 3 – 3 | 5 – 4 | 6 – 4

Baylandi Polo team faced Dubai Wolves Polo in the second half of the afternoon with an equal start as both teams delivered a goal each by the end of the first chukker. The Dubai Wolves had a half goal advantage in the game which gave them the lead until halftime. Guillermo Cuitinho had shown his class as he had shifted the lead to Baylandi Polo team with 2 goals which Ed Banner Eve followed through

with 2 more goals at the final chukker that sealed the win for Baylandi Polo team at 6 goals to 4.5.
