Both teams inch a leg up on their competition as they scored their second win in the Gold Cup 2022 tournament.

Bangash Dodson & Horrell nicked the first goal of the afternoon. Habtoor Polo matched that goal with successive goals from which closed the first chukker at a 3 goal advantage. Haider Bangash, the team patron, scored one for his team with Federico von Potobsky‘s pass from the throw-in. Bautista Bayugar placed Habtoor Polo at a comfortable 5 goal lead by halftime. The penultimate chukker saw   Bangash Dodson & Horrell get back in the game and narrowed the gap to 3 goals. The team closed in Habtoor Polo early in the last chukker but Juan Jauretche nailed the team‘s 11th goal – enough to secure the team‘s second victory.

It was a close start for the next match between Zedan Polo and Ghantoot Polo with the first chukker ending at 3 goals to 1. Tomas Panelo from the Zedan Polo team drove the advantage up to 4 goals by the end of the second. The gap in scores did not improve during the next minutes with the near goal saves and misses. The penultimate chukker had seen Amr Zedan, the team patron, deliver the ball close to goal and Gonzalo Ferrari finishing it for the team. At this point Zedan has a 4 goal advantage that Ghantoot Polo was not able to beat and the game ended with a final score of 10 goals to 6.

Habtoor Polo, fresh from its glory at the Silver Cup 2022, faced the defending champions of the Gold Cup – Ghantoot Polo – on the grounds of Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club.

Marcos (Cacu) Araya opened the match with a goal for Ghantoot and, Mohammed Al Habtoor, the patron of the Habtoor Polo team, closed the first chukker with a 1-goal advantage. The team continued the streak of goal shots and extended its lead with 2 goals. Cacu placed Ghantoot back on the scoreboard during the third chukker but Bautista Bayugar managed to keep the lead to Habtoor Polo‘s side by halftime. The penultimate chukker saw the team carve a 4-goal lead which Ghantoot closed in on but did not manage to beat. The game ended with a final score of 8 goals to 7 in favour of Habtoor Polo.

Bangash Dodson & Horrell Polo team took the lead quickly from Zedan Polo at the second match of the day. Amr Zedan, the patron of the opposing team shifted the advantage by the end of the second chukker and the team kept its lead through halftime. Benjamin Panelo from Bangash levelled the game during the fourth chukker with penalty shots. His brother, Tomas Panelo, saw to it that the final chukker belongs to the Zedan Polo team as he scored 3 goals and the team took their first win in the tournament.

15 January 2021, Dubai, UAE: The AHPRC League 2021 concluded with exciting matches on the grounds of Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club. 

The Subsidiary Final opened with a quick goal from Petra Spanko from Farrington Polo team but, El Basha/YS Polo had the lead at the end of the first chukker with its one and a half goal advantage. At the end of the second chukker, Farrington Polo was ahead as the team scored three consecutive goals. The penultimate chukker saw El Basha/YS Polo close in on its opponent but the goals from Petra and Evan Power at the final chukker sealed the win for Farrington Polo at 7 goals to 5.5.

Match Progression: 2 – 2.5 | 5 – 2.5 | 5 – 4.5 | 7 – 5.5

The Final match saw 9 Stitches / Hesketh Polo and Bhansali / Dubai SS Polo teams head to head until the end of the final chukker. Rishi Bhansali scored the first goal of the game. Tomy Iriarte delivered a flurry of goals at the first chukker securing the lead for 9 Stitches / Hesketh Polo. Bhansali / Dubai SS closed in on its opponent by the third chukker with goals from Maxi Malacalza.

Both teams rushed for the win and it was Malacalza’s last goal that resulted in a fifth chukker. Halfway through overtime, Tomy Iriarte scored the golden goal taking home the win for 9 Stitches / Hesketh Polo at 6 goals to 5.

30 October 2020, Dubai, UAE: The first tournament of the season saw the Habtoor Polo team lifting the Halloween Cup trophy for the fourth year on the grounds of Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club.

The polo picnic area was in full swing as Mahra Polo team faced Habtoor Polo at the final match. Habtoor Al Habtoor scored the opening goal early on during the first chukker. Habtoor Polo dominated the game despite the2 quick goals from Mahra in the fourth chukker, Habtoor Polo sealed the win at 5 goals to 3.

Khalid Saeed, General Manager of Al Habtoor Polo Resort, awarded the teams at the Final and the Most Valuable Player – Habtoor Al Habtoor.

It was a double-action day at the Bentley Semifinals of the Standard Chartered Gold Cup 2020 tournament. Four teams competed at the grounds of Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club that resulted to a win for Habtoor Polo and Abu Dhabi Polo teams.

Habtoor Polo demonstrated a strong start until halftime while maintaining a two-goal advantage. Bangash Polo was able to close in on Habtoor by the end of the fourth chukker with goals from its patron – Haider Bangash and Frederico Potobsky created a tie early on the final chukker. Habtoor Polo matched this with two goals, and Facundo Sola’s 10th goal sealed the for Habtoor Polo team.

The second match opened with a goal from Juan Zubiaurre that was followed by a score from Habtoor Al Habtoor, patron of the Dubai Wolves team. The next chukker saw the Wolves took off and secured a three-goal advantage over Abu Dhabi Polo team. The match took an exciting turn when Martin Donovan delivered three goals in the next two chukkers. Alfredo Cappella started the last chukker with a goal. Juan Gris Zavaleta took the lead with a penalty shot, but Cesar Crespo levelled the game. 

Tied at 8 goals, both teams raced to gain the lead that resulted in a sixth chukker. The strike for the golden goal was taken by Cappella within the first 10 seconds, and Abu Dhabi Polo claimed victory at 9 goals to 8.

Another polo tournament has come to an exciting close as Habtoor Polo faced Bangash / LLVC at the Final of the Sir Winston Churchill Cup 2019.

The match kicked off with a half goal lead for Mahra/LLVC polo team, and the first chukker ended with 2 goals to 2.5. Past halftime, Mahra/LLVC were at a 2.5 goal advantage over Habtoor that continued until the end of the penultimate chukker. Habtoor Polo raced to score goals to take the lead from its opponent at the final chukker and nearly created a tied score situation. Not missing a beat, Mahra/LLVC defended its position and delivered 2 more goals that secured the win for the team at 8.5 goals to 6.

The Club had offered its usual Friday Polo Picnic – a tailgating tradition in the polo circuit. Guests watched the match under gazeboes, and the children spent their time in a dedicated Kids Area. The anticipated Run-N-Hunt drew participation from the crowd and the lucky winners won prizes worth a total of AED 10,000 in cash and gift items. The best-dressed lady and gent were also recognized and were given prizes worth AED 2,000 each.

Shirley Laurel, Marketing Manager of Conmix Ltd. (a Bukhatir Group company) awarded the teams with Frederico Potobsky as the Most Valuable Player and Cosmetica as the Best Playing Pony.

The usual Friday Polo Picnic at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club was complemented by clear skies as spectators witnessed a match between Habtoor Polo and AM Polo teams. 

The first goal of the match was delivered by Sheikha Alya Maktoum, patron of AM Polo team carrying a half goal advantage. Both teams played strongly but, Habtoor Polo gained a 1.5-goal lead by halftime and kept it until the end of the third chukker. The team’s excellent play allowed them to take off and grab the win at 9 goals to 5.5. Guests of the day participated in the Friday Fun Race and two lucky winners won prizes worth AED 3,000 in cash and vouchers.

The Sir Winston Churchill Cup continues on the 11th of December, Wednesday, with Habtoor Polo vs. Bagash/Mahra Polo at 15:00, field 3. The tournament is sponsored by Bukhatir Group, one of the largest and most diversified business houses in the United Arab Emirates.
