Let‘s Create, Gather, Innovate, ...

After the times we have been through, we must remain focused on the future. We must continue to build the polo of tomorrow with audacity and ambition in order to develop an ever more competitive polo yet keep its friendly spirit.

During these last years, a great solidarity and positive atmosphere emerged between the French and international clubs as they focused on the general rather than the individual interests, with the sole objective of developing polo in a beautiful unity.

The future of our sport requires a global vision based on several main approaches: develop access to polo through an initial training program that involves the creation of bronze, silver and gold mallets, facilitate the rise of new talents, develop the high level, encourage polo in the regions, promote breeding, structure training and encourage diverse forms of polo through the creation of new circuits and the strengthening of its visibility. The future of polo also involves the creation of new international competitions.

In 2022, we hosted the World Championship qualifiers at the Chantilly Polo Club, which sent Spain and Italy to the final stages.

In 2022, we held the second edition of the Polo Rider Cup with a total of 14 teams that included some of tomorrow’s great talents. In 2023, the players and the horses will meet at the Polo Club of Saint-Tropez for the third edition.

Above all, the 22nd edition of the French Open gathered sixteen high level teams including some of the best Argentine and European players and more than 1,000 horses in the magnificent Polo Club de Chantilly, to try to win one of the most coveted European trophies. But 2023 also reserves its share of surprises with the arrival of the Nations Cup.

With the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in view, we have decided to create a new 12-goal tournament, the Nations Cup, whose first edition will be held from June 8th to 18th 2023 at the headquarters of the French Polo Federation in Chantilly. The teams will be made of a minimum of two players of the nationality and/or the region represented.

The bigger idea is to take advantage of the 2024 Paris Olympics to promote polo. Thus, in 2024, the tournament will take place during the equestrian week of the Olympics, which will allow us to attract numerous spectators, officials and media which will help us to develop the sport even further.

Seeing all these excellent horses and players galloping on the French fields is an honor for French polo, but also, and above all, a great joy. This joy is always doubled with the aim to share our passion with the greatest number of people by approaching the public and offering a friendly, festive but also competitive atmosphere, while preserving the legendary magic of our sport.

All this could not exist without the unfailing support of our generous partners who have been on these events for many years, of all the French and foreign clubs who actively participate in these initiatives and of all the players who make these meetings the most coveted on the “polo planet“ without forgetting the spectators who so joyfully encourage the horses and the players and who are the soul of this sport.

Let‘s join our forces to offer polo the brightest future!

The past months offered various highlights – among others in Zurich, Berlin or China – and even more unforgettable moments of happiness.

It‘s a philosophy of life that has inspired me a lot. Asked in an interview with POLO+10 about his view of things in life, Sébastien Le Page, President of Polo Park Zurich, quotes from a book by Nietzsche: „Master, what shall I do to be happy? The master answers: just be happy!“ In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, we unfortunately too often forget to recognize happiness in the moment and to consciously enjoy it. That‘s why I plan to do just that much more in the future!

The past few months have offered various moments of happiness for polo fans and players: Special highlights included the Elasten Ladies Cup at PoloPark Berlin and the 22nd Zurich International Ladies Cup, where the women once again put on spectacular competitions. Polo is also finally making a comeback in China after the enforced break – and if the plans of hotel CEO Sanjiv Ramdanee are anything to go by, guests on the dream island of Mauritius will be able to watch polo show matches in the future.

So let‘s all look forward to the coming season in 2022, which will unfortunately have a few planning uncertainties due to the pandemic, but will nevertheless hold various new moments of happiness in store for all of us.

DID YOU KNOW…
Check out the front cover of the next POLO+10 German issue: B 01 and B 04 are two of the rarest horses on the planet! They are clones of the very best polo pony to have ever existed – the legendary Cuartetera (owned by Adolfo Cambiaso).  Photo was taken by Irina Kazaridi @irinakazaridi at @ladolfinapoloclub, Cañuelas, 2018.

Adolfo Cambiaso himself is shown on the cover of POLO+10 WORLD. The photo was taken at the Argentine Open in Buenos Aires last year by Nacho Corbalan. Many thanks to Irina and Nacho for your great work!

Short, condensed, intense – this sums up the 2020 polo season! Nevertheless, we were offered numerous polo highlights.

It was a challenging 2020 polo season, with the omen often pointing to storm. It is all the more astonishing that, in the end, the review is consistently positive. Not only the team from Polo Park Zurich responded to the challenges of the pandemic with a perfect mix of flexibility, resilience and creativity, but in fact, the entire world of polo sports adapted with these attributes to unpredictable and frequently changing regulations that impacted  travel and event organization of the 2020 polo season.

One of the highlights was the Swiss Medium Goal Championship in Zurich, in which visitors were pampered with high-class games and South American flair. And with the German Low Goal Championship 2020 in Berlin, the first great tournament of the German Polo season was able to take place despite the pandemic restrictions.

Fortunately, the signs are now pointing towards optimism for the next season. There was even a tournament premiere to celebrate in June 2021: With twelve teams from eight countries, the first edition of the Polo Rider Cup in Chantilly, France, turned out to be a success and received a lot of media attention.

The anticipation remains and we hope for ride and play through a less stormy season.

A few years ago, Russian Irina Kazaridi started her career as an international photo-grapher. Since then she travels the world to shoot the “behind the scenes moments“ of polo. In St. Moritz she presents an exhibition of her work at the VIP tent.

Irina Kazaridi, a fine photographer who was an artist since childhood & studied art in St. Petersburg before going to the European Institute of Design in Milan.

She has exhibited different shows in various cities around Russia, Europe & Dubai. Including “Persistence of Vision”, about permanent and changeable, it’s a series of seascapes photographed over a period of time. “Light Frequency”, a series about yachts at night -Illusory play of light and reflections.

The research of a new story which could give an eternal inspiration led the artist into the world of horses: the grace enclosed in the anatomy of the animal, the sculptural lines of the croup and the majestic neck turn- the search of creating the perfect portrait – in the incessant pursuit of perfection.

Culture and tradition of horses originates in the East.

Hence the interest and love of the artist to places such as Meydan , where some of the brightest races of the world take place, and on the stables you can take pictures of the best horses.

Polo is another passion of the artist, which is reflected in her latest collection – emotion and human connection combine in this remarkable series. Irina travels the world from Normandy, Tuscany , St Moritz, Spain , Argentina, Dubai & Palm Beach capturing the drama and majestic grace of horse, rider, spectator trinity.

About my style and technique:

Characteristic techniques and features that form my style:

I work alone and have no any assistance in my shootings , except the groom or horseman. I don’t use any lamps, flashes or artificial lighting-

I Love to work with the natural sun light : diffuse, reflected or direct, which looks more natural on the photo and also is more comfortable for the horses.

The worthy result depends not only on my professionalism and a good camera;

it’s a series of circumstances putted together , as a weather conditions and light, character and current mood of the horse.

That’s why The results of shootings are often unpredictable, It’s kind of lottery, where the Luck is an irreplaceable factor.

In my frame, I want to emphasize the beauty of my model and even make it more perfect than in reality : I attach great importance to graphic forms, perfect composition and light.

Most of my works are black and white , minimalistic , on a white background.

Maybe that’s why my horse portraits are very graphic, and in my opinion, they are the perfect design item.

I like the idea of deliberately creating my work for interiors – probably because my muses are designers who revere horses , like Christian Liagre, Gilles & Boissier, Hermès…
