Andras Tombor lineup defeated El Milagro and won the flagship tournament of the Novillo Astrada’s family club

Bardon earned a 13-7 win over El Milagro and claimed the Julio Novillo Astrada Cup, following the championship match, that took place at La Aguada Polo Club, in Open Door, Argentina, on Tuesday November 21m, on a cold and rainy afternoon. The Julio Novillo Astrada is the opening tournament of the 2023 Spring Season, at La Aguada Polo Club, presented by Río Uruguay Seguros. 

El Milagro’s Lukin Monteverde opened the scores in the first chukka; but Bardon replied quickly through Jeta Castagnola and Rufino Lauhlé, who secured the 2-1 advantage for Bardon at the end of the first chukka. From then onwards, the match belonged to Bardon, who remained in the lead throughout the six chukkas of play; by halftime, Bardon was 7-3 ahead of El Milagro. In the second half, Andras Tombor’s lineup dominated their opponents, who struggled to remain in the game, but their efforts didn’t pay off.

By the start of the sixth chukka, the deal was said and done, with Bardon 12-5 up. At the end of the day, and after a very well played contest, Bardon produced one last goal to secure the 13-7 victory that led them to win the XIX Edition of the Julio Novillo Astrada Cup.

Meanwhile, the Subsidiary Trophy went to Forbes Plunkett, who defeated Santa Clara 14-12.

Following the awards presentation, there was an after polo, that included asado, music and other delicacies, in which the attendants enjoyed the warmth of the Novillo Astrada family, and had a great deal of fun with family and friends.

The Julio Novillo Astrada Cup, the opening tournament of the 2023 Spring Season hosted by La Aguada Polo Club Presented by Río Uruguay Seguros, was underway at La Aguada Polo Club, the Novillo Astrada family’s club located in Open Door, Argentina. The contest is the club’s premier competition, and has been played since 2004, as a tribute to La Aguada’s founder, Mr. Julio Novillo Astrada, affectionately known as Yayo within his family. The 2023 edition of the tournament saw four teams up to 22 goals in participation.

Friday, April 16 2021 – A new edition of the Argentine Amateur Championship is set to start on Saturday April 17. The tournament is a part of the 2021 Autumn Season presented by Río Uruguay Seguros and hosted by the Novillo Astrada family’s club, in Open Door, Argentina.

The tournament features eight teams up to 24 goals (amateur handicap), split into two leagues.

The order of play of the opening day, Saturday April 17, is as follows: 

2pm: Esmowing vs. Hurlingham // Don Augusto vs. Miralejos
4pm:  Agrisun vs. La Victoria

The finals of the Argentine Amateur Championship are scheduled for Sunday April 25.

December 6, 2020 –  La Ensenada claimed the opening win of the XVII Copa Julio Novillo Astrada, that‘s currently taking place at La Aguada Polo Club, featuring four teams up to 22 goals.

With Matías Torres Zavaleta filling in for Jerónimo del Carril, La Ensenada took a narrow 8-7 victory over Santa Clara.

The competition will resume on Monday, December 7 with a single game, El Caburé vs. Santa Clara, at 10am.

The finals of the XVII Julio Novillo Astrada Cup will be played on Monday December 14, 2020.

ABOUT THE JULIO NOVILLO ASTRADA CUP

The tournament has been established in 2004, as a tribute from the Novillo Astrada family to the founder of La Aguada and the family polo dynasty, Don Julio Novillo Astrada, the beloved and unforgettable Iaio, who set the club in Open Door, Argentina, in the early 70s. His children and grandchildren have honored his legacy by making La Aguada one of the most important and impressive polo clubs worldwide, as well as an ideal countryside destination, close to the city of Buenos Aires.

The Villages defeated MJVH Polo by a 10 a 5,5 score and won the 2019 edition of La Aguada Ladies Cup, after the final that took place at La Aguada Polo Club, in Open Door, Argentina, on Friday December 6.

Meanwhile, La Aguada took a 7,5-3 win over Agua Fria Ourofino, and earned the third place.

Lia Salvo was named MVP and  Claudia Junqueira was presented with the Fair Play Award.

La Aguada Ladies Cup, one of the most important competitions within the busy ladies polo calendar of the spring polo season in Argentina, featured four teams up to 18 goals (ladies handicap)

Following the awards presentation, teams, players, media and special guests enjoyed the warmth of the Novillo Astrada family at their home, with a great closing party and Argentine asado, in an ideal entourage to have fun and a great time with family and friends, the spirit of La Aguada Polo Club.

Las Monjitas took a 11-9 win over El Milagro, and captured the  XVI Julio Novillo Astrada Cup, presented by Río Uruguay Seguros, following the championship match that took place at La Aguada Polo Club, in Open Door, Argentina, on Tuesday November 19.

Therefore, Camilo Bautista’s foursome won the trophy for the fourth time, as they did in  2013, 2014 and 2017. Two of the members of the winning team – Facundo Sola and Guillermo Caset Jr – are currently playing the Triple Crown in Argentina with the orange jerseys. The lineup was completed with Matt Coppola.

Following two consecutive ties, Las Monjitas commanded the two next chukkas. Although El Milagro leveled at 8-all at the start of the fifth chukka, Las Monjitas wasted no time at all to re-take the lead through Facundo Sola, until El Milagro’s Santiago Solari produced a spectacular goal in the last seconds within the fifth chukka to tie at 9-all. But in the last chukka of play, Facundo Sola and Guillermo Caset Jr., managed to score one goal apiece to seal the win for Las Monjitas, that allowed them to claim La Aguada Polo Club’s premier competition for the fourth time (Score Las Monjitas: 2-2, 4-4, 7-5, 8-7, 9-9, 11-9).

Meanwhile, the fourth place went to Power Infraestructure who beat Los Cocos by a close 10-9, and La Mancha Dutta Corp earned the third place after defeating Lovelocks Polo Stud by a 12-5 score.

The XVI Julio Novillo Astrada Cup, presented by Río Uruguay Seguros, had a fantastic closing party, that included an exquisite asado and other delicacies, in a lovely friendly entourage, with everybody enjoying the hospitality and warmth of the Novillo Astrada family.

Guards Polo Club defeated La Aguada Polo Cluband claimed the seventh edition of Guards La Aguada Youth Tournament, the kids polo competition that took place on a fantastic sunny Saturday June 22, at the prestigious Guards Polo Club, set in Windsor Great Park, England.

In the category Under12-years-old,Guards and La Aguada tied 1-1 in the opening match, while Guards took a 4-0 over La Aguada in the following one. With regards with the category 12-15 years old, Guards won both games (4-0 and 2-1) against La Aguada.

Estanislao Darritchon and Ollie Heard took MVP honors in their categories – Under 12 and 12-15 years old, respectively. The awards were presented by Miguel and Eduardo Novillo Astrada Jr., who were in attendance along with La Aguada Polo Manager, Thomas Hume, maintaining the strong and solid bonds between two of the most renowned polo clubs worldwide. The partnership between both clubs, now in its seventh year, have produced highly successful tournaments in England and Argentina.

Guards La Aguada Youth Tournament not only helps to develop the skills of the future stars of polo but it is also a fantastic opportunity to encourage the most remarkable values of the sport – family and friendship. And so it proved – following the awards presentation, everybody were welcomed to share a delicious asado at the club.
