04 March 2023: In the IFZA Gold Cup 2023, the tournament‘s climax showcased the best polo teams of the season in a thrilling competition for the highly sought-after Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series trophy. The occasion was brimming with sportsmanship, live entertainment, elegance, amusement, and enticing rewards and presents for its audience and spectators.

The Bentley Subsidiary Final of the IFZA Gold Cup 2023 started with a fiery match between Ghantoot Polo and Dubai Wolves by CAFU, with Carlos Ulloa scoring the opening goal and Pablo Llorente Jr. quickly tying the match in the first chukker. The Patron of the Wolves, Habtoor Al Habtoor scored a great goal with Ulloa’s last second goal at the end, leading the team with two goals advantage towards the second. The Wolves had taken complete possession during the third, as the black shirted players of Dubai Wolves carved a 3 goal lead. In the final chukker, it was Teodoro Lacau from the Dubai Wolves who brought the score to a double digit, and with Ulloa ending the game at 11 goals to 8, that sealed the win for the Dubai Wolves by CAFU.

The final match of the Dubai Open 2023 was eagerly awaited, as it featured two of the strongest contenders of the IFZA Gold Cup 2023 tournament – the UAE Polo and IFZA Habtoor Polo teams.

Tommy Beresford nicked the first goal of the match for UAE Polo. Shortly after, Juan Jauretche and Bautista Bayugar scored one goal each for IFZA Habtoor Polo. The second chukker, opened with two back to back goals from Bayugar and two from Tommy Beresford, as the teams tied through the end of the second, with 4 goals to all. The next two chukkers were a quick exchange of goals, but UAE wrestled their way through and took the lead with one goal at the end of the penultimate chukker. With seven minutes remaining in the match, UAE Polo had their work cut out for them, as Lucas Monteverde Jr. and Tommy Beresford managed to create a three-goal cushion in the middle of the chukker. Bayugar managed to score a goal for IFZA Habtoor Polo, but in the end, it was Lucas Monteverde Jr. who scored the decisive goal, securing the ultimate win for UAE Polo as the two-time champions of the IFZA Gold Cup 2023.

1 March 2023: The IFZA Gold Cup 2023 Semi Final was a showdown between the top four teams of the season.

The highlight of the afternoon was the much-awaited match between UAE Polo and AM Polo, which began with an opening goal by Isidro Strada. UAE Polo quickly took control of the game, ending the second chukker with a 4-goal lead.  The UAE team players in white extended 2 more goals in the third, with Strada and Bejamin Urquiza each scoring one goal each for AM Polo, with the score of 7 goals to 3 by halftime. In the penultimate chukker, it was Tommy Beresford and Lucas Monteverde Jr., each scoring one goals for the UAE Polo. The AM polo managed to squeeze in two goals over the last chukker but fell short, and the IFZA Silver Cup 2023 winners marched their way through the finals with a final score of 10 goals to 5.

The last spot for the chance at the most coveted trophy of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series was a match between IFZA Habtoor Polo and Bangash Dodson & Horrell Polo teams. The first chukker saw three goals by the IFZA Habtoor Polo, and one goal by Bangash Dodson & Horrell Polo. Both teams displayed defensive and impressive polo skills, particularly from IFZA Habtoor Polo‘s number two and three players, Matthew Perry and Bautista Bayugar, who helped advance their team to a 2-goal lead. Ignacio Negri brought his team closer by scoring two goals, but the IFZA Habtoor Polo team was still leading with 7 goals to 5 at halftime, with Mohammed Al Habtoor scoring one goal for the team. In the last chukker, Federico Von Potobsky managed to tie the game at 8 goals, making it an intense final minutes. However, it was Bautista Bayugar who made the last hit of the game with a long shot goal, quickly turning things around and securing a victory for IFZA Habtoor Polo with 9 goals to 8. This win has taken the team to the finals of the IFZA Gold Cup 2023.

22 February 2023: The 6th and final day of the IFZA Gold Cup 2023 Qualifiers featured 2 matches: Ghantoot Polo against Clinova Noa Capital Polo, and UAE Polo against Dubai Wolves by CAFU.

Marcos Araya of Ghantoot Polo kicked off the afternoon match against Clinova Noa Capital Polo with a 30-yard penalty goal. The game continued to be one-sided in favor of UAE Polo, with the second chukker ending at 5-2. The pace of the match picked up in the third chukker, with Marcos and Pablo Llorente Jr. scoring three goals each to bring the scoreboard to 9-3 in favor of Ghantoot Polo. In the penultimate chukker, Ghantoot Polo extended their lead with two goals by Segundo Amadori and one each by Pablo and Marcos, taking their score to double digits with 13-5. The Patrons of both the teams, Raja Karim from Clinova and Nasser Al Shamsi of Ghantoot Polo scored a goal, with Tommy Iriarte carving a last minute goal for the Clinova. However, despite their efforts, it was Ghantoot Polo who emerged as the clear winner with a final score of 15-9.

The fight to qualify for the quarterfinals was between Dubai Wolves by CAFU and UAE Polo. Martin Podesta opened the match with a brilliantly executed shot, but not long after, Carlos Ulloa equalized the score, resulting in a tied score of 1–1 at the end of the first chukker. The first half of the match was a closely contested affair as both teams were evenly matched, resulting in tied scores of 3–3 in the second chukker and 5–5 by the end of the third. A brilliant passage of play was displayed by both the teams by the second half, but it was white shirted players of the UAE Polo team who managed to gain the advantage, as Lucas Monteverde Jr. and Tommy Beresford led their team with a 2-goal lead in the penultimate chukker. In the final stretch of the game, Jacinto Crotto and Teodora Lacau each scored a goal in the last few minutes, but it was not enough as Beresford and Monteverde of the UAE Polo team sealed their victory over the Wolves with a final score of 9 goals to 7.

Dubai Wolves by CAFU and UAE Polo delivered an exceptional performances on the fourth day of the IFZA Gold Cup 2023, resulting in their deserved victories

19 February 2023: The fourth day of the IFZA Gold Cup was action-packed with two matches between Clinova Noa Capital Polo and Dubai Wolves by CAFU, followed by UAE Polo and Ghantoot Polo teams.

A critical match, as both teams – Dubai Wolves by CAFU and Capital Noa Capial Polo, needed to earn their first win in the tournament. Carlos Ulloa scored the first opening goal for Dubai Wolves by CAFU, followed by two more goals by Teodora Lacau and Ulloa. Dubai Wolves by CAFU dominated the game until the second chukker, maintaining a 5-0 lead over Clinova Noa Capital Polo. Although the opposing team scored one goal each in the third and fourth chukker, the Wolves kept their lead with four goals, resulting in a final score of 6-2. The Clinova Noa Capital polo team managed to make an excellent comeback, with their Patron – Raja Karim scoring 2 goals and 1 goal by Benjamin Panelo, with great display of polo skills shown by Tomas Iriarte and Facundo Llorente. In the end, it was Dubai Wolves by CAFU who secured their first win in the tournament.

Each team carrying a victory under its belt, UAE Polo and Ghantoot Polo delivered an exciting game for the spectators of Al Habtoor Polo Club. Marcos Araya opened the scoring with a 40-yard penalty shot, and Segundo Amadori doubled Ghantoot Polo‘s lead to make it a two-goal advantage over UAE Polo. Tommy Beresford narrowed the score gap with three goals, and Lucas Monteverde Jr. scored a goal in the last minute of the second chukker. Tommy Beresford, with three penalty shots of 30, 40, and 60 yards, brought his team to a double-digit score, ending the third chukker with a 10-2 lead. UAE Polo managed to maintain the lead in the penultimate chukker as well with a 12 – 4 score, and by the end of the final stretch, UAE Polo marched its way through to ensure another win of the tournament.

14 April 2021, Dubai, UAE: Habtoor Polo team claimed the last trophy of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series for the fourth year as it smashed the competition – Ankora/Dr. A Polo team and closed the game at 7 goals to 5.

Round robin games amongst AM Polo, Dubai IMMO and El Basha Polo teams kicked off the Subsidiary Match of the Dubai Cup 2021.

Habtoor Polo team‘s performance throughout the final was consistent and had the early lead with 2 goals. Ankora/Dr. A Polo team on its tail, Ricardo Garros managed to match the goals delivered by its opponent by halftime. The final chukker had seen Aiti Garros threaten the impending win for Habtoor Polo as he levelled the game at 5 goals at mid chukker. Both teams raced for the win and Santiago Gomez Romero nicked the 6th goal for Habtoor Polo and with ample time on the clock, Ankora/Dr. A Polo attempted to tie the game once more. But Habtoor Al Habtoor broke through and delivered an excellent runaway goal that sealed the win for Habtoor Polo team.

11 April 2021, Dubai, UAE: The last of the qualifying matches for the Dubai Cup 2021 concluded with a win for Ankora – Dr. A and Habtoor Polo teams.

It was a slow first chukker with Tomy Iriarte scoring the first goal for Ankora – Dr. A Polo team. The team pushed the lead further during the second and created a 2.5 goal cushion and extended the winning stride through the end of the game, closing it at 6 goals to 2.5.

Match Progression:  1 – .5 | 4 – 1.5 | 5 – 2.5 | 6 – 2.5

The game between Habtoor Polo and Dubai IMMO Polo teams opened with a goal from Juanji Diaz Alberdi, setting Dubai IMMO ahead in the first chukker. Habtoor Polo responded with 3 goals during the second chukker and carved a 4-goal lead by the third. Dubai IMMO set on its tail managed to close the gap in scores but ultimately Habtoor Polo kept its significant goal lead to victory and ended the match at 7 goals to 4.

9 April 2021, Dubai, UAE: The first match of the afternoon was between El Basha and Dubai IMMO teams with Juanji Diaz Alberdi scoring the first goal from 60 yards.

Justo Cuitino took El Basha Polo on the lead with a 1 goal advantage by halftime. Ed Banner Eve extended the lead with 3 goals at the end of the third chukker. Dubai IMMO, with its work cut out for them, managed to close the gap in scores midway through the final chukker and Tomas Palacios Bacque created a tie with less than 2 minutes left on the clock. The intense play continued during the fifth chukker and Hani Jabshe scored the golden goal that sealed the win for the El Basha Polo team.

The next match was between AM Polo and Ankora/Dr. A with Dr Al Abbar nicking the first goal of the game. It was a fast first chukker with AM Polo grabbing the lead courtesy of Pablo Urquiza‘s consecutive goals. The next chukker ensued with the same rigour as Khalid Alomran levelled the game but, AM Polo closed the chukker with back to back goals and kept the 2-goal lead past halftime. The last chukker saw an intense play as AM Polo defended its position and Ankora/Dr. A attempted to create a tie close to the end of the game and it was Urquiza‘s penalty shot that sealed the win for AM Polo at 7 goals to 5.

The first day of the Dubai Cup 2021 featured a match between Habtoor Polo and AM Polo teams. The scores were close until halftime with AM Polo at a 1-goal advantage. The third chukker had seen a comeback from Habtoor Polo team by gaining on its opponent and ending the chukker with a 2-goal lead. Both teams racing for the win, AM Polo managed to close in on the gap in scores but Habtoor Polo.

This lead determined the outcome of the match in spite of efforts from AM Polo with the additional goals they have delivered. Ultimately the game ended at 8.5 goals to 5 in favour of Habtoor Polo team.

17 March 2021, Dubai, UAE: Tommy Beresford scored the first goal of the match with a penalty shot from 30 yards followed by another goal from Kian Hall which gave Dubai Wolves an early lead in the game.

The goals from Benjamin Panelo for AM Polo kept AM on its opponents tail through the penultimate chukker. The last chukker showed the defensive work from the Dubai Wolves and added 2 goals which secured their spot at the Subsidiary final of the tournament. The game ended at 7.5  goals to 4.

Match Progression: 2.5 – 1 | 3.5 – 2 | 5.5 – 4 | 7.5 – 4

Tratok/Hesketh Polo team showed a commanding lead from the start of the second game with the opening goal from Santos Iriarte. The team worked in a 3.5 goal advantage by halftime which IFZA/Mahra Polo struggled to catch up to. However, the final chukker saw a goal from Jacinto Amadori and a steal from Khalaf Al Habtoor which lead Tariq Al Habtoor to score the 4th goal for IFZA/Mahra. However, the significant goal advantage that Tratok/Hesketh Polo had, was enough to secure the win for the team at 6.5 goals to 4.

The Dubai Challange Cup 2021 will soon declare its new champion on the 19th of March 2021 in Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club:

16 March 2021, Dubai, UAE: The third day of the Dubai Challenge Cup ended with double victories for Battistoni Polo and UAE Polo teams.

The first match of the afternoon featured Battistoni and Baylandi Polo, teams. Tomy Iriarte scored the first 2 goals which gave Battistoni Polo a head start in the game. The team increased their lead by the end of the by half time with the consecutive goals delivered by Tomy. The significant goal lead that Battistoni Polo had created was enough to secure the win at 7 goals to 3.

Match Progression: 2 – 0 | 0 – 5 | 5 – 1 | 7 – 3

The second half of the afternoon had spectators at the edge of their seats as UAE Polo and Bin Drai Polo teams brought their A-game on the field. Jacinto Crotto grabbed the initial lead for the UAE Polo team and was backed by a penalty shot from the team‘s patron – Sheikha Maitha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Quick to catch up was Rashid Bin Drai scoring 2 goals for the team that levelled the game by halftime. Defending the UAE Polo team‘s initial lead, Raja Abuljebain scored a last-second goal by the end of the penultimate chukker. The fourth chukker had UAE Polo team seem like it was close to victory however, Bin Drai Polo team‘s patron – Khalid Bin Drai nicked a goal at the very last second that resulted in a fifth chukker. Both teams raced to score the golden goal and it was Jacinto Crotto taking home the win for UAE Polo at 7 goals to 6.

The Dubai Challenge Cup 2021 will continue on the 17th of March at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club. Dubai Wolves will play against AM Polo at 15:15 and Tratok-Hesketh Polo will compete with IFZA – Mahra Polo at 16:30.
