Casablanca Fall Cup begins Friday at Santa Rita Polo Farm

WELLINGTON, Fla., November 8, 2024—-The sixth and final medium goal tournament of the fall season begins Friday at Santa Rita Polo Farm.

The third annual Casablanca Fall Cup will feature three teams in a round robin at 11 a.m.

The teams are: Newport (Gene Goldstein, Santos Bollini, 2, Martin Jauregui, 6, Sugar Erskine, 6), SebiLion (Sebastian Mandelbaum, Pablo Dorignac, 4, Leo Mandelbaum/Tito Gaudenzi, 2, Tomacho Pieres, 6) and Santa Rita (Phil Gutman/Rebecca Cohen, Juan Bollini, 3, Nic Roldan, 8, Jason Crowder, 5).

The winners advance into Sunday morning‘s final.

In last year‘s final, Victory Polo won its first tournament of the season. In a true round robin tournament final, Victory Polo (Becky Schmeits, Jason Crowder, 5, Pablo Dorignac, 4, Martin Jauregui, 6) led from start to finish to defeat Dracarys Polo (Chetan Krishna, Santos Bollini, 2, Nic Roldan, 8, Juan Bollini, 3), 12-11. Martin Jauregui was MVP. In the other two games, Dracarys Polo defeated Amaro (Kevin Schmeits, Scott Sorbaro, Sugar Erskine, 6, Kris Kampsen, 6), 9-6, and Victory Polo topped Amaro, 9-7.

It‘s the first time the popular beach polo tournament and WPL Pride Polo are being held in the fall on South Beach. The Beach Polo World Cup Miami Beach is the largest and most notable Beach Polo event in the world. It features international teams and over 120 horses. Tickets are on sale.

The family-friendly club welcomes spectators of all ages. All matches, food and refreshments are free (with the exception of special catered events) and open to the public and dogs on leashes.

Among the season‘s other highlights are the Nov. 23 doubleheader featuring the Legends of Polo Carlos Gracida Memorial and International Cup with GCPC USA playing the Rest of the World this year. In last year‘s International Cup, Spain knocked off previously unbeaten GCPC USA to snap its 11-year win streak in front of a packed house at Santa Rita Polo Farm.

Wellington-based ChukkerTV (CTV Sports) is live streaming the entire fall season worldwide. Grand Champions is the only USPA club that is live streaming all its games.

The Grand Champions Fall Invitational League is geared toward improving a player‘s polo skills at every level. Roster lineups change from tournament to tournament with evenly-matched teams featuring pro and amateur players, „getting the best compliment of players who fit well together,“ according to the tournament committee.

Grand Champions and Santa Rita Polo Farm is the largest and most unique private 102-acre polo facility in Wellington with 212 stalls in nine self-contained barns, two tracks, five climate-controlled tack rooms, vet room, staff quarters, guest house and four polo fields with state-of-the-art underground irrigation and short work arena. The United States Polo Association (USPA) and the National Polo Center Wellington (NPC) are delighted to share the updated 2023 NPC winter season schedule, highlighted by the prestigious Gauntlet of Polo series, the new Florida Circuit 16 Goal Super Series, the U.S. Open Women’s Polo Championship and the historic international Westchester Cup.

The season will officially begin by ringing in the new year with the NPC Inaugural Cup Final and opening Sunday match on January 1, 2023, and will conclude May 28, 2023. Tickets for Sunday Brunch will be available for purchase online at nationalpolocenter.com by mid December. In 2023, select tournaments will be livestreamed on uspolo.org and via USPA social media channels, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Twitch. The 2023 Gauntlet of Polo will serve as the premier spectacle of the NPC season, beginning February 12-26 with the C.V. Whitney Cup, continuing with the USPA Gold Cup from March 1-26, and concluding with the U.S. Open Polo Championship from March 29 April 23. The prize money distribution for the 2023 season will follow last year’s format, with $50,000 awarded to each of the winning teams of the C.V. Whitney Cup and USPA Gold Cup and $100,000 presented to the winner of the U.S. Open Polo Championship. 

In addition to the Gauntlet of Polo, the inaugural NPC winter season will offer an unparalleled polo experience for players of all ages and backgrounds. The debut USPA Junior Open Final will unite some of the most talented youth players in the country, while the Westchester Cup will showcase another elite international competition in the Wellington, Florida, area. 

Also included in the schedule is the brand new Florida Circuit 16 Goal Super Series, which has generated significant interest among teams. Read more about the innovative Super Series here. Given the widespread attention the superseries has garnered, the USPA is currently developing an iteration at the 8 goal level as well. The series would consist of four qualifying tournaments played January April 2023, with the four winning teams playing a Super Series Championship at NPC at the end of April. 

NPC will also welcome additional matches and events from April 30, 2023 May 28, 2023, expanding the opportunity for competitors of all experience levels to enjoy the prestige and thrill of playing on U.S. Polo Assn. Audi Wins Overtime Thriller In WPL All-Star Challenge To Advance Into Thursday Semifinals

WELLINGTON, Fla., February 22, 2022—In the most exciting game of the World Polo League All-Star Challenge opening round, Audi secured the fourth and final spot for Thursday‘s semifinals.

Audi (Marc Ganzi, 2, Jeta Castagnola, 9, Barto Castagnola, 9, Paco de Narvaez, 6) rallied in the second half to defeat defending champion Richard Mille (Santos Bollini, 2, Grant Ganzi, 3, Pablo MacDonough, 10, Juan Martin Nero, 10), 10-9, in overtime Sunday at Grand Champions Polo Club.

Audi joins Catamount, White Birch and Seminole Casino Coconut Creek in Thursday‘s semifinals. Catamount plays White Birch at 11 a.m. on Field 3 and Audi plays Seminole Casino Coconut Creek at 4 p.m. on Field 1.

With 6:56 left in overtime, Barto Castagnola quickly recovered from a rideoff to score the winning goal. Castagnola finished with three goals and earned Most Valuable Player honors.

The WPL Best Playing Pony was Irenito Sinforosa, played by MacDonough in the second and sixth chukkers.

The Grand Champions Best Playing Pony was Sunriver, played by Jeta Castagnola in the first and sixth chukkers.

Richard Mille opened the first chukker with a 1-0 lead on handicap. Audi had two scoring opportunities early, missing a penalty conversion and having a goal nullified on a right-of-way penalty. MacDonough scored with 1:34 left for a 2-0 lead.

Nero scored early in the second chukker for a 3-0 advantage. Three unanswered goals by brothers Barto Castagnola (two goals) and Jeta Castagnola (one goal) enabled Audi to even the score at 3-3. MacDonough came back with a goal through defenders with 22 seconds left for a 4-3 lead.

With Richard Mille controlling 80 percent of the throw-ins, Richard Mille outscored Audi, 2-1, in the third chukker for a 6-4 halftime lead.

Ganzi scored with 5:27 left to give Richard Mille a 7-4 advantage in the fourth chukker but the lead was shortlived. Three unanswered goals including Jeta Castagnola‘s goal with five seconds enabled Audi to tie the game 7-7 at the end of the chukker.

Audi‘s defense was relentless in the second half frustrating Richard Mille‘s offensive attack. By the end of the fifth chukker, Audi had ten knock-ins.

Audi and Richard Mille exchanged goals in the fifth chukker, the first by Marc Ganzi with 6:43 left for an 8-7 lead and the other by Nero with 2:35 remaining to end another chukker tied, 8-8.

The sixth chukker continued the defensive battle with great defensive goal stops and missed scoring opportunities by both teams. Jeta Castagnola opened the chukker with a 40-yard penalty conversion at the 7:22 mark for a 9-8 lead.

Audi saw its hopes of winning in regulation end when Grant Ganzi backhanded the ball which MacDonough then turned quickly to retrieve and put through the goal posts with five seconds remaining to send the game into overtime at 9-9.

Audi got balanced scoring from its lineup. In addition to Barto Castagnola‘s three goals, Jeta Castagnola scored a team-high four goals, Ganzi had two goals and De Narvaez added one.

It was Jeta Castagnola‘s second game of the day. Earlier, he substituted for an injured Francisco Elizalde in the La Fe lineup and scored a team-high four goals in their 13-11 loss to Pilot in the C.V. Whitney Cup at International Polo Club.

Richard Mille‘s two 10-goalers combined for seven goals. Nero had a team-high four goals and MacDonough had three. Ganzi had one. The team picked up one goal on handicap.

Richard Mille was the defending champion of the All-Star Challenge. The foursome of  Marc Ganzi, Jeta Castagnola, Pablo MacDonough and Paco de Narvaez defeated Hawaii Polo Life (Chris Dawson, Poroto Cambiaso, Jejo Taranco, Adolfo Cambiaso), 12-8. MacDonough was MVP.

The World Polo League, now in its fourth year, is the only 26-goal polo played outside of Argentina. It has attracted a large international field from around the world.

The world-class league will run through April 16. The World Polo League is preserving the highest level of polo and its rich tradition in the U.S. The WPL has its own set of simpler fan-friendly rules to improve the flow of the game and world-class umpires.

In addition to the All-Star Challenge, the remaining WPL events are the inaugural Tommy Hitchcock Legacy Memorial, Feb. 27; Founders Cup, Feb. 23-March 13; Palm Beach Open, March 9-27; Triple Crown of Polo, March 23-April 16 and Beach Polo World Cup Miami Beach, April 29-May 1.

Grand Champions has also added  Sunset Chukkers and Cocktails, presented by Seminole Casino Coconut Creek held Tuesday late afternoon on Field One for players and guests.

Grand Champions, the nation‘s largest polo club, celebrating its 15th anniversary, is coming off its most successful fall season. Club officials hope to build off that success when it hosts 23 tournaments from January through April.

The 16-goal league play includes the Grand Champions Cup, Mar. 8-26 Power Horse Invitational and Mar. 29-Apr. 16 Pedro Morrison Memorial.

The 12-goal league is currently underway with the Sieber Memorial Trophy, the $50,000 National 12-Goal which gets under way this week and Mar. 8-26 Top Pony 12-Goal.

After January‘s successful Aspen Valley Cup, the 8-goal tournament schedule continues with the Top Pony 8-Goal and Mar. 8-26 Limited Edition 8-Goal.

WELLINGTON, FL, June 2, 2021— Seminole Casino Coconut Creek won the first ever World Polo League Polo Pride tournament at Grand Champions Polo Club on Saturday, May 29th. They defeated Grand Champions by 5-6 in a closely fought match.

Grand Champions Polo Club kickstarted Pride month, which runs through the end of June, by hosting a spectacular dinner and polo match to promote the values of equality and diversity and celebrate the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community (LGBTQ).

The Pride events began Friday evening with a dinner staged at Santa Rita Polo Farm. Following delicacies including a crispy skin duck breast, yellowfin tuna tart and Colorado lamb chops, each paired with a carefully curated wine selection, guests enjoyed a panel discussion titled „Inclusion and Healing“ moderated by ESPN West Palm broadcaster and personality Josh Cohen.

Panel participants included: Violet Camacho, author and PR & Communications Director for Mr. Hospitality; Dani Campbell, a firefighter/paramedic for BSO Fire Rescue and reality TV personality; Marc Ganzi, CEO, Digital Colony, President & CEO of Colony Capital, and co-founder of the World Polo League; Omar Hernandez, founder of Omar’s La Boite, Omar’s at Vauvluse and the Saxony at Faena Miami Beach; and Sidra Smith, producer and founder of Gate Pass Entertainment.

After a lively discussion in which participants discussed the topics of inclusion and healing within the context of their personal experiences, guests were treated to an acrobatic performance by Les Farfadais & Co and music from the Telesca Band.

On Saturday afternoon, teams from Grand Champions and Seminole Casino Coconut Creek met on Grand Champions Field Two for a very competitive match.

The Grand Champion’s team included: Miami broadcaster Louis Aguirre; Gay Polo League tournament winner Ryan Cronin; Talbot Logan; and 4-goal professional Jorge Donovan.

Just over two minutes into the first chukker, Talbot Logan drew first blood for Grand Champions, keeping his composure and evading a hook from Juan Bollini to score. It took another two minutes before Sterling Jones got the equalizer for Seminole Casino, while Vinny Sangaline came in with a neck shot in the last minute to put Seminole Casino ahead by 2-1. In the second chukker, Ryan Cronin got out in front to slice the ball in with 4:36 on the clock, tying things up until Vinny Sangaline put the ball through with only 32 seconds remaining to play. The half ended with Seminole Casino leading by 3-2.

Grand Champions came back hot after the half, as Ryan Cronin smashed a cut shot down field to the center and finished with a smooth shot on goal. Talbot Logan took the ball out from under Sangaline to score, and Cronin quickly answered with another shot on goal. A goal from Sangaline with 1:28 left on the clock ended the chukker with Grand Champions in the lead by 5-4. Unfortunately for Grand Champions, Seminole Casino came back strong on defense in the final chukker and kept them off the board. With goals from Sangaline and Juan Bollini, Seminole Casino came from behind to edge out a 6-5 victory.

With four goals for the match, Vinny Sangaline took the MVP title, while Ryan Cronin was the high scoring player for Grand Champions with three goals to his credit. After the match, actress Rebel Wilson, a close friend of player/actor Sterling Jones, was on hand to award the prizes to the winner and runner-up.

Spirits were high on the podium, and Seminole Casino’s #1, Cale Newman, was beaming from ear to ear, saying “This is a fantastic end to the season, and I had a blast. I’m incredibly honored to be a part of World Polo Pride, not only as a member of the LGBTQ community but as a manager of the club. I would be honored to be part of this event playing or not.“

WELLINGTON, FL, May 24, 2021— Sorrento Polo Team defeated Seminole Casino Coconut Creek by 12-11 to take the Pedro Morrison Memorial title, while Sebucan edged out Barbaroso Leather by 10-9 in the subsidiary.

Seminole Casino Coconut Creek (Fran Spinacci, Grant Ganzi, Juancito Bollini, and Alejandro Novillo Astrada) met Sorrento Polo Team (Federico Parker, Tito Gaudenzi, Marc Ganzi, and Nic Roldan). Seminole Casino Coconut Creek ceded three goals to Sorrento Polo Team on handicap.

Juancito Bollini put Seminole Casino Coconut Creek on the board in the first chukker, while Nic Roldan was able to score from Penalty 5 from the spot to ensure that Sorrento Polo Team ended the first period with their three-goal lead intact. In the second chukker, Bollini found the goalposts twice, bringing Seminole Casino Coconut Creek within one before Roldan answered with a goal. A foul from Seminole Casino Coconut Creek gave Marc Ganzi the chance to convert a Penalty 3 and the chukker ended with Seminole Casino Coconut Creek trailing 6-3. In the third period, Bollini and Alejandro Novillo Astrada helped Seminole Casino Coconut Creek close in on Sorrento again, but Roldan swept the ball through in answer. A final goal from Grant Ganzi ended the half with Seminole Casino Coconut Creek behind by just one goal, at 7-6.

Roldan got Sorrento Polo Tam on the board first in the fourth chukker, with an answer from Novillo Astrada. Roldan scored yet again to end the period 9-7. The pentultimate chukker saw both teams battling ferociously to score, with Bollini putting the first ball through. Tito Gaudenzi and Roldan scored to take the total on the board up to 11-8 for Sorrento Polo Team , but Novillo Astrada came back with an answer and Grant Ganzi converted a Penalty 2. The final chukker began with Seminole Casino Coconut Creek still nipping at Sorrento Polo Team‘s heels. Bollini scored the equalizer and at 11-11, Seminole Casino Coconut Creek had victory within their grasp. An unlucky foul gave Marc Ganzi the chance to convert a Penalty 2, which won the game for Sorrento Polo Team 12-11.

Nic Roldan was named MVP, while Cortina, played by Tito Gaudenzi and owned by Santa Rita Polo Farm took the Best Playing Pony award.

In the second match of the day, Sebucan (Gene Goldstein, Pablo Pulido, Tomacho Pieres, and Sugar Erskine) took the field against Barbaroso Leather (Leo Mandelbaum, Justin Daniels, Pablo Spinacci, and Juan Bollini).


Cortina, played by Tito Gaudenzi and owned by Santa Rita Polo Farm, was awarded Best Playing Pony.

While Barbaroso Leather started with one goal on the board, they were unable to get past Sebucan’s defense to score from the field in the first chukker. Goals from Sugar Erskine and Gene Goldstein ended the period 2-1 for Sebucan. Play was back and forth during the second chukker and Barbaroso had no better luck getting on goal, with another great shot from Erskine put Sebucan in the lead by 3-1. Pablo Pulido put a goal through the posts, and it was finally Leo Mandelbaum who was able to get a goal from the field on the board for Barbaroso. A goal from Goldstein ended the half with Sebucan in the lead by 5-2.

Both teams turned the power up a notch when they returned after the half. Leo Mandelbaum put the first ball through the posts, but Sebucan found themselves on an offensive streak, scoring four goals in a row. Goldstein led the charge, followed by Tomacho Pieres and Pablo Pulido. Pieres scored again, putting Sebucan in the lead by 9-3 before Justin Daniels was able to score and end the period with Barbaroso down by 9-4. Barbaroso started to gain momentum in the fifth chukker, outscoring Sebucan for the first time. Spinacci and Mandelbaum both scored for Barbaroso, while Pulido was responsible for Sebucan’s only goal in the chukker. Barbaroso played a spectacular final chukker, keeping Sebucan off the board while Daniels, Mandelbaum and Spinacci were all able to put the ball through. Unfortunately for Barbaroso, they found their rhythm too late and went down to Sebucan by 10-9.

WELLINGTON, FL, May 22, 2021— Seminole Casino defeated Barbarosa Leather by 11-8 in the first match of the Pedro Morrison Memorial, while Sorrento Polo Team took down Sebucan in the second match of the day by a score of 8-7.

Seminole Casino Coconut Creek (Fran Spinacci, Grant Ganzi, Juancito Bollini, and Alejandro Novillo Astrada) met Barbarosa Leather (Leo Mandelbaum, Justin Daniels, Pablo Spinacci, and Juan Bollini) in the first match of the Pedro Morrison Memorial on Friday morning. Seminole Casino ceded one goal to Barbarosa Leather on handicap.

Justin Daniels knocked in the first goal of the day, but the combination of Alejandro Novillo Astrada and Juancito Bollini looked unstoppable in the second half of the period. Novillo Astrada took control of the ball and passed it to Juancito, who put it through the posts with a near side shot. Sixty seconds later he passed the ball to Juancito again, and Bollini fils took the ball through the posts in two shots. Seconds later Juancito gained control of the ball once more and left it behind for Novillo Astrada, who passed it back for Juancito to complete the hat trick for the chukker with 1:10 left on the clock. The period ended with Seminole Casino Coconut Creek leading 3-2. Barbarosa Leather struck back in the second chukker, working hard to keep Seminole Casino Coconut Creek off the goal. Leo Mandelbaum converted a Penalty 2, while Pablo Spinacci scored a pair of goals that had Bábaroso in the lead 5-3 at the end of the period. The tables turned in the third chukker, with Seminole Casino keeping Barbarosa Leather away from the posts while Novillo Astrada put the ball through. The half ended with Barbarosa Leather leading 5-4.

The fourth chukker demonstrated how evenly matched the teams were, with Seminole Casino Coconut Creek scoring first and Barbarosa Leather responding with an answer to maintain their one goal lead each time. Grant Ganzi scored the first equalizer early in the chukker, but Juan Bollini came back with a goal of his own less than a minute later. With 2:10 left on the clock, Juancito Bollini scored with a strong assist from young Fran Spinacci. Leo Mandelbaum found the posts with a spectacular angled shot, but with seven seconds left to play, Alejandro Novillo Astrada tapped the ball in to end the period with a 7-7 tie. Seminole Casino gained the upper hand in the fifth chukker, drawing ahead on a Penalty 3 conversion from Grant Ganzi and Novillo Astrada scoring to solidify the lead. Despite a well-placed shot on goal from Pablo Spinacci, Seminole Casino led 9-8 at the beginning of the final chukker. Barbarosa Leather lost the momentum they had enjoyed earlier, failing to get on the board, and goals from Fran Spinacci and Alejandro Novillo Astrada won the game for Seminole Casino Coconut Creek with a final score of 11-8.

In the second match of the day, Sebucan (Gene Goldstein, Pablo Pulido, Tomacho Pieres, and Sugar Erskine) took the field against Sorrento Polo Team (Federico Parker, Tito Gaudenzi, Marc Ganzi, and Nic Roldan). Secbucan ceded three goals to Sorrento on handicap.

Sebucan seized control of the field early in the first chukker and Gene Goldstein drew first blood with 5:43 on the clock. Nic Roldan fired a powerful shot downfield that was snatched off the doorstep by Sugar Erskine, but he blasted the ball through the posts in a similar shot on the next play at just under four minutes. Neither team was able to find the posts again and the period ended with Sorrento Polo Team leading by 4-1. Pablo Pulido and Marc Ganzi each put the ball through in the second chukker, which ended 5-2 in favor of Sorrento Polo Team. Goldstein put another goal on the board in the third chukker while a strong defense from Sebucan kept Sorrento from scoring. The half ended with Sorrento Polo Team in the lead by 5-3.

The fourth chukker played out much like the third, with Sorrento Polo Team still unable to make it past Sebucan to score. Tomacho Pieres put a goal on the board to narrow Sorrento Polo Team‘s lead to one goal at 5-4. The pentultimate chukker was Sorrento Polo Team‘s finest six-and-a-half minutes, as it was the only chukker in which they outscored Sebucan. It was Marc Ganzi they had to thank, as he converted a Penalty 2 and put the ball through from the field. Sugar Erskine held up the side for Sebucan, and the period ended with Sorrento Polo Team leading by 7-5.

Erskine scored again in the sixth chukker and with two minutes on the clock Sebucan could see the win within their grasp. However, they failed to capitalize on the opportunity. With just five seconds remaining on the clock, a Penalty 6 safety saw Tomacho Pieres tie the score at the buzzer and send the game into overtime. In a sudden death seventh chukker, with 3:05 left on the clock, Nic Roldan capitalized on a broken play and took the ball to goal to win the day for Sorrento with a final score of 8-7.

The Final of the Pedro Morrison Memorial will take place on Sunday May 23 at 11:30 am. The subsidiary game, Just For The Fun Of It Cup will be at 10:00 am, where Sebucan will meet Barbarosa Leather. Both games will be streamed live on ChukkerTV.

Catamount Captures Spring Challenge Cup Title; Nic Roldan Named MVP

WELLINGTON, FL, May 17, 2021— Catamount defeated Seminole Creek Coconut Casino by 10-8 to capture the Grand Champion’s Spring Challenge title, while Newport bested Sebucan by 9-8 in the “Just for the Love of It” subsidiary when the game went into an overtime shoot-out.

On Sunday morning Seminole Casino Coconut Creek (Melissa Ganzi, Horacio Heguy, Alejandro Novillo Astrada, and Juan Bollini) met Catamount (Grant Ganzi, Marc Ganzi, Nic Roldan, and Scott Devon) in the final match of the Spring Challenge. Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, a 17-goal team, ceded three goals on handicap to 14-goal rated Catamount.

The final pitted Mother Melissa Ganzi against son Grant and husband Marc, making for some particularly competitive action on the field. Indeed, the first chukker was dominated by the family. Marc drew first blood by successfully converting a Penalty 2 early on, and just over two minutes into play Melissa tapped the ball through the posts on her third touch after she got out in front. With two minutes left on the clock, son Grant got his piece of the action, scoring on a pass from Nic Roldan. The chukker ended with Catamount in the lead by 5-1. Alejandro Novillo Astrada jumped out in front to score quickly at the beginning of the second period, with an answer from Roldan. The third chukker began with another goal from Roldan, who made an easy neck shot 30 seconds into play. Back-to-back goals from Melissa took Seminole Casino up to 4 on the board but a final goal from Grant ended the half with Seminole Casino down by 4, at 4-8.

Seminole Casino poured on the power in the fourth chukker, keeping Catamount off the board while Melissa scored another pair of back-to-back goals and Horacio Heguy knocked the ball through with 36 seconds left on the clock. Catamount’s frustration continued in the pentultimate chukker as Seminole Casino kept them off the goal and with 2:30 left on the clock, Alejandro Novillo Astrada passed the ball to Melissa, who tied the score at 8 all.

With a tie going into the final chukker, Nic Roldan wasted no time and found the posts 30 seconds in. Playing a strong defense as well as offense, he was instrumental in keeping Seminole Casino from scoring again, and a spectacular play he started on the near side and finished on the offside put the icing on the cake. Catamount took the title with a final score of 10-8.

In earlier action, Sebucan (Leo Mandelbaum, Pablo Pulido, Tomacho Pieres, and Nacho Figueras) faced Newport (Gene Goldstein, Sugar Erskine, Justin Daniels, and Pablo Spinacci) in the “Just for the Love of It” subsidiary. Sebucan ceded one goal to Newport on handicap.

Newport’s Gene Goldstein was determined to capitalize on his team’s handicap advantage right out of the gate and scored a goal from the field before converting a Penalty 3. Pablo Pulido found the posts for Sebucan as the clock counted down under two minutes and the first period ended with Newport leading 3-1. Unfortunately for the team in white, they lost the momentum in the second period and failed to score, although a stong defense ensured that Sebucan’s only goal came from a Penalty 3 conversion by Pablo Pulido. The drought continued for Newport in the third period, while Leo Mandelbaum successfully shot from the penalty line and Nacho Figueras followed up with a goal from the field. A final goal from Pulido ended the half with Sebucan leading 5-3.

With 2:20 on the clock, Pablo Pulido found Leo Mandelbaum with a pass, leaving it to Mandelbaum to put the ball through the posts. Sugar Erskine ran the ball downfield, where Justin Daniels picked it up to score Newport’s first goal since Chukker One and end the period 6-4 with Sebucan in the lead. Although Newport wasn’t scoring, they were playing a highly effective defense. In the fifth chukker, two consecutive goals by Daniels tied the game up, but a Penalty 6 from Figueras put Sebucan back in front.

In the final chukker, after Tomacho Pieres’ ball bounced off the post, Mandelbaum picked it up for the goal. Newport, down by two, roared to life with Daniels and Goldstein scoring to end the final chukker in an 8-8 tie. The game was decided with a shoot-out. Goldstein took the first shot , putting a goal on the board, but Pablo Pulido missed his shot. Newport won with a final score of 9-8.

WELLINGTON, FL, May 15, 2021— Seminole Casino defeated Newport by 10-8 in the first match of the Spring Challenge, while Catamount took down Sebucan in the second match of the day by a score of 9-8.

Seminole Casino Coconut Creek (Melissa Ganzi, Horacio Heguy, Alejandro Novillo Astrada, and Juan Bollini) took on Newport (Gene Goldstein, Sugar Erskine, Justin Daniels, and Pablo Spinacci) in the first match of the Spring Challenge on Friday morning. Seminole Casino ceded two goals to Newport on handicap.

Although Newport started the match with a two-goal advantage, they had a difficult time finding their rhythm and failed to score in the first two chukkers. Melissa Ganzi put the first goal on the board in Chukker One and added the equalizer at the top of the second period. Horacio Heguy made a clean shot to goal from 70 yards, with Ganzi adding another goal after Newport unwisely left her in the open. The third period began with Seminole Casino Coconut Creek in the lead 4-2, and it wasn’t long until their successful strategy of keeping Ganzi in front saw her score again. Newport scored their first goal of the day when Justin Daniels made a spectacular angled shot on goal. The half ended with Seminole Casino Coconut Creek in the lead at 5-3.

Ganzi continued to play her number one position well in the fourth chukker, scoring her fifth goal with an under the neck shot early in the period. Newport found their feet with goals from Gene Goldstein and Pablo Spinacci. Ganzi scored a second goal in the chukker as well, and the period ended 7-5 with Seminole Casino Coconut Creek still in the lead. Ganzi put another goal on the board early in the pentultimate chukker, but Goldstein smoked a cut shot at 4:20 to score for Newport. Another goal from Ganzi ended the period 9-6 with Seminole Casino Coconut Creek still in the lead.

In the final chukker, Ganzi found the goal from 60 yards to take her team up to 10. With 2:15 left on the clock Gene Goldstein put one between the posts, while Justin Daniels scored the final goal of the match. Despite Newport’s strong comeback, it wasn’t enough to overcome and the match ended with Seminole Casino Coconut Creek winning by 10-8. Melissa Ganzi was the high scoring player with nine goals to her credit.

In the second match of the day, Catamount (Mark Ganzi, Grant Ganzi, Nic Roldan, Scott Devon, and Bauti Peloso, who subbed for Devon in the second half) took on Sebucan (Leo Mandelbaum, Pablo Pulido, Tomacho Pieres, and Nacho Figueras). Catamount started the match with two goals on the board on handicap.

Tomacho Pieres drew first blood for Sebucan, while Leo Mandelbaum converted a Penalty 3 to put a second goal on the board. Catamount was off to a slow start and failed to get past Sebucan to score, and the first chukker ended in a 2-all tie. Catamount roared to life in the second period with Nic Roldan putting the first goal on the board, Leo Mandelbaum answered by sneaking one through the posts under Roldan’s nose, but Marc “the Cobra” Ganzi put two consecutive goals through the uprights. With 1:20 left on the clock, Pieres scored for Sebucan but a final goal from Grant Ganzi ended the period 6-4 in favor of Catamount. Sebucan couldn’t get past the Catamount defense in the third chukker, and a goal from Roldan ended the half with Catamount leading by 7- 4.

Bauti Peloso substituted for Scott Devon in the second half, with the difference in handicap erasing one of Catamount’s goals from the board to put the score at 6-4. Neither team was able to score in the fourth period but there was more action to come in the pentultimate chukker. Roldan put the ball through to take Catamount up to 7 while a goal from Leo Mandelbaum and another from Pablo Pulido with 28 seconds left on the clock ended the period at 7-6 with Catamount clinging to a narrow lead. Pieres scored the equalizer early in the final chukker and it was anyone’s match at this point. Goals from Marc Ganzi and Nic Roldan put Catamount back in the lead at 9-7. Leo Mandelbaum scored the final goal with 1:20 remaining on the clock, but time ran out before Sebucan had a chance to push the match into overtime. Catamount claimed victory with a final score of 9-8.

WELLINGTON, FL, May 8, 2021— Seminole Casino Coconut Creek defeated Orea by 9-8 in the first match of the Sun Cup, while Sebucan bested Newport by 10-7 in the second match of the day on Friday.

Seminole Casino Coconut Creek got off to a good start by consistently winning throw-ins, but it took almost four minutes of play before Melissa Ganzi put their first goal on the board. With just over a minute left on the clock, Petra Sobotova took the ball from the nearside to the right and put it through to maintain Orea’s three-goal margin and end the chukker 4- 1. Seminole Casino Coconut Creek kept Orea away from the goal in the second period, while Ganzi scored her team’s first goal with a neat under-the-neck shot. Alejandro Novillo Astrada contributed back-to-back goals to even things up and the period ended 4-4. Seminole Casino Coconut Creek‘s strategy of keeping Ganzi in front to score paid off again in the third chukker as she took the ball through to put another goal on the board, but a Penalty 2 conversion from Petra Sobotova ended the half at 5-all.

Seminole Casino Coconut Creek picked up the pace in the fourth chukker, with Ganzi offering up a pair of goals to put her team in the lead for the first time during the match. Orea was frustrated yet again and the chukker ended 7-5 in favor of Seminole Casino Coconut Creek. In the pentultimate chukker, Pablo Spinacci picked up a pass from Sugar Erskine and hit it home, but Juan Bollini made sure that Seminole Casino Coconut Creek maintained their two-point lead.

With just over three minutes left in the match, Ganzi found the posts again to put Seminole Casino Coconut Creek in the lead by three, but Justin Daniels quickly answered with a tail shot on goal. With just 38 seconds left on the clock, Petra Sobotova made a coast-to- coast run for the final goal of the match, with Orea losing to Seminole Casino Coconut Creek by only one goal with a score of 9-8.

Melissa Ganzi was the high scoring player with six goals to her credit.

In the second match of the day, Sebucan (Pablo Pulido, Nic Roldan, Marc Ganzi, and Juancito Bollini) met Newport (Gene Goldstein, Grant Ganzi, Santi Chavanne, and Tomacho Pieres). Newport ceded one goal to Sebucan on handicap.

Sebucan capitalized on the one-goal head start quickly, playing a strong defense to keep Newport away from the uprights. Pablo Pulido was the first to score from the field, with Juancito Bollini following up. Pulido knocked the ball through the posts one more time to end the first chukker with Sebucan in the lead by 4-0. Newport fared no better in the second chukker, while Marc Ganzi took Sebucan up to five. Finally, in the third chukker, Newport’s Grant Ganzi scored the first goal of the day for his team. However, two more goals by Pulido and Bollini ended the half with Sebucan leading by six goals at 7-1.

There must have been a rousing speech in the Newport tent at halftime because the team in white came back energized. Gene Goldstein put the first goal of the second half on the board, with a follow-up from Grant Ganzi. Turning the tables on Sebucan, Newport rallied with a strong defense to prevent them from scoring. Each team managed only one goal in the pentultimate chukker, but Newport came back on fire in the final with Goldstein, Pieres and Grant Ganzi scoring consecutive goals to pull Newport within two at 7-9. A final effort from Marc Ganzi saw Sebucan win the match 10-7.

Richard Mille Captures Title in World Polo League Triple Crown of Polo

WELLINGTON, FL, April 19, 2021— Richard Mille defeated Tamera by 11-10 on Saturday to capture the title in the World Polo League Triple Crown of Polo.

Richard Mille (Marc Ganzi, Jeta Castagnola, Pablo MacDonough and Paco de Narvaez) took to the field against Tamera (Ale Poma, Santi Torres, Diego Cavanaugh, and Jejo Taranco) on Saturday to vie for the title in the WPL Triple Crown of Polo. Richard Mille, a 26-goal team, ceded one goal on handicap to 25-goal Tamera.

Richard Mille got off to a slow start in the first chukker, and Diego Cavanaugh scored the first goal for Tamera less than 40 seconds into play. With 3:30 on the clock Jejo Taranco made an 80-yard shot to put the ball through posts, taking Tamera up to three goals on the board. Following a right of way violation by Tamera, Jeta Castagnola converted a Penalty 3 to end the period 3-1 with Tamera in the lead.

Less than a minute into the second chukker, Pablo MacDonough made a successful shot on goal. At 4:41 Jejo Taranco broke through Richard Mille’s defense and ran through a thicket of black shirts to take the ball through the posts. With 45 seconds remaining, Castagnola scored to end the second chukker 4-3 with Tamera still in the lead.

Taranco converted a Penalty 5 from the spot early in the third chukker to put Tamera ahead by 5-3, but back- to-back goals from Castagnola tied the score at 5-all. Tamera got a lucky break when Santi Torres scored two goals within a minute, including an impressive neck shot from the corner, and the half ended with Tamera leading 7-5.

Tamera found themselves cut off from the goal in the fourth period by a strong Richard Mille defense, while a right of way violation gave Castagnola the opportunity to convert a Penalty 3. With 2:09 on the clock, Marc Ganzi connected with a pass from Castagnola inside the 40-yard line and took the ball from the near side to the offside to score and end the chukker in a 7-7 tie.

Less than a minute into the fifth chukker, Pablo MacDonough made a neat pass to Jeta Castagnola, who snapped it through the uprights to score. At 4:36, Taranco carried the ball downfield to score, tying the match up again at 8-all. Following a Penalty 3 conversion by Pablo MacDonough, Taranco scored with 50 seconds on the clock to end the fifth chukker in a 9-all tie.

As the final chukker began, Tamera lost an umpire challenge and Castagnola was able to convert a Penalty 2, which he followed up with another goal from the field to take Richard Mille up to 11. Tamera was able to convert one more penalty but couldn’t find an opportunity to score again. Richard Mille carried the day at 11-9, winning their third title of the season.

Pablo MacDonough was named the Most Valuable Player. The American Polo Horse Best Playing Pony was Molapata Tinta, ridden by Marc Ganzi. Irenita Suspicasia, ridden by Pablo MacDonough, was named the Argentine Polo Horse Breeder’s Association, while Irenita Subara, also ridden by Pablo MacDonough, took the WPL Best Playing Pony title.
