Iconic Art Deco Skyscraper in the Financial District Celebrates Landmark Status with Official Ceremony in Collaboration with Macklowe Properties and the New York Landmarks Preservation Foundation
NEW YORK, NY (September 27, 2023) – Today, iconic Art Deco skyscraper One Wall Street celebrated its certification as a landmark by unveiling a plaque presented by the New York Landmarks Preservation Foundation. Originally built in 1931 as the Irving Trust Company Headquarters by “the Architect of the Century” Ralph Walker, One Wall Street represents one of the most ambitious examples of adaptive reuse to residential and retail in New York City‘s history while leading the Financial District‘s transformation into a world-class residential neighborhood.
To commemorate the occasion, Landmark plaques were unveiled at the Broadway entrance with a ceremony, with a reception following in the One Club private residential restaurant on the building’s 38th floor. Speakers included Harry Macklowe, developer of One Wall Street, Tom Krizmanic, Chair of the New York Landmarks Preservation Foundation, and Sarah Carroll, Chair of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. Mayor Eric Adams also issued an official citation to celebrate the occasion.
One Wall Street is regarded as one of New York City‘s premier Art Deco landmarks. In 2001, the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission designated the original 1931 portion of the building as a New York City landmark, and in 2007, it was declared a contributing property to the Wall Street Historic District, a National Register of Historic Places district.
The plaque is presented by the New York Landmarks Preservation Foundation, which was established in 1980 to foster public awareness of preservation through educational outreach, including the creation of landmark plaques for historic buildings, and supports the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC,) which was created in 1965 through groundbreaking legislation in response to the losses of historically significant buildings in New York City.
The Landmarks Plaque reads: “Built as the headquarters of the Irving Trust Company Bank in 1929-31, One Wall Street is one of New York City’s finest art deco skyscrapers. The 654-foot limestone-clad tower, suggestive of a fluted column or draped cloth, is enlivened by subtle setbacks, chamfered corners, concave windows, and a crystalline crown that originally contained an executive lounge. It is among the most significant works of Ralph Walker, of Voorhees, Gmelin & Walker, whom the American Institute of Architects honored as ‘The Architect of The Century’ in 1957. One Wall Street was designated an individual landmark in 2001 and sensitively converted to residential and retail use in 2022 by Macklowe Properties.”
Architecture and Conversion:
The landmarked original 1931 building at One Wall Street was designed by Ralph Walker of the Voorhees, Gmelin and Walker architecture firm, reaching 56 stories at 654 feet tall, with a primarily limestone facade built in the Art Deco style. The southern annex, designed by the successor firm of the original architecture team, was completed in 1965, reaching 28 stories and 391 feet, and during the conversion was expanded during the restoration to expand to 36 stories and 494 feet, housing new residences and the One Club amenities spaces.
“New York City’s triumvirate of great Art Deco buildings would consist of the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, and One Wall Street.” Ada Louise Huxtable, Pulitzer Prize-winning architecture critic
The exterior of the property was sensitively restored and the interiors completely reimagined, with SLCE Architects serving as the executive architect and interior architects including MdeAs, TenBerke, (formerly known as Deborah Berke Partners,) and Ashe Leandro. Robert A.M Stern Architects served as the architect for the master plan Landmarks approval, and Acheson Doyle Partners Architects served as the historic preservation consultant for the project. All escalators and elevators throughout the building were removed and centralized in the core of the building to best serve the residents and allow for more light and air to reach the interiors, offering residents natural light and sweeping views. New windows were added throughout, with limestone surrounds from the original Indiana quarry to ensure a seamless exterior. Acheson Doyle Partners Architects served as the historic preservation consultant for the project.
“One Wall Street presents a series of rhythmic motifs of different sizes and shapes.
This sense of rhythm becomes clear when one’s eye travels upward along the strongly vertical lines of the building.” Ralph Walker, Original architect of One Wall Street
One Wall Street Residences and Amenities:
One Wall Street was developed by Macklowe Properties in a remarkably complex and intricate restoration, comprising 566 condominiums complemented by 100,000-square-feet of amenities and a residential lifestyle previously unavailable in New York City.
The residences at One Wall Street maintain the elegance of the building’s coveted pre-war proportions and architecture, from which the team meticulously created modern layouts for the residences that reflect the way people live today with the best in contemporary craftsmanship and materiality. Residences feature soaring ceiling heights and breathtaking, unparalleled views of the Manhattan cityscape, New York Harbor, and New York City landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, Trinity Church, and the New York Stock Exchange.
One Wall Street is the Financial District‘s first true luxury residential building with full-time door staff, porters, resident manager, and white-glove concierge service, offering The One Club residential amenities space that highlights amenities for wellness, entertainment, leisure and business. Amenities include a 75-foot, glass-enclosed Sky Pool with a wraparound terrace, and the only private residential restaurant in Downtown Manhattan, which offers a gourmet seasonal menu, espresso bar, and craft cocktails in the dining area designed by TenBerke, (formerly known as Deborah Berke Partners,) as well as on an adjoining 4,500-square-foot terrace with stunning views. The building also offers a transformative co-working space, One Works by The One Club, a tech-savvy, 6,500-square foot space that creates an effortless, multifunctional space to support residents with the option of working from home.
The building’s retail space was carefully reconfigured to create a residential center in the neighborhood akin to Rockefeller Center, including the Financial District‘s largest grocer, Whole Foods, and Life Time Fitness Resort, which offers a private entrance and complimentary membership to residents in addition to the 38th floor private fitness center in the amenities space. Luxury French retailer Printemps will open their first U.S. store in a 54,000-square foot space at the base of the building that encompasses the historic Red Room.

Art for the moments of life
An Interview with the Doctor and Artist Dr. Farzam Khalilian
© POLO+10 by Alexander Nebe / Photography Karsten Eichhorn
How and when did the idea for the founding of „Khalilian Equestrian Carpets“ came about?
Five years ago I was at the CHIO riding tournament in Aachen. It was a beautiful day – and I was enjoying the moment; watched the hustle and bustle around me, the horses, the people. And suddenly a question shot through my head: Why are there no elegant, classy carpets with horse motifs in its design?
So it was like some kind of creative enlightenment?
Absolutely (laughs). Suddenly I felt like an unconditionally enthusiastic child again. After that, I carried the idea around with me for some time without really taking action. Finally, in 2017, I actually started drafting the first design and put some of the ideas in my head on paper.
Would you say that the fascination for horses has grabbed you?
Definitely! However, I’ve been enthusiastic about horses since I was a child. Horses have always interested and accompanied me. They are impressively graceful beings who effectively convey their pride and beauty to the outside world.
Where are your carpet designs implemented and how long does it take to make them?
The carpets are made in selected manufactories in the Orient – with strict regulations, especially with regard to child labor. We only use the highest quality materials such as wool from Mongolian sheeps or Tibetan silk. The carpets are knotted in two layers and yet it usually takes around six months before a carpet is finished. With a knot density of up to 500.000 knots per square meter or more you can imagine very well why it takes such a long time. It’s real manual work – a very impressive and artful craft.
In which quantities do you produce?
Some carpets are unique. We produce a maximum of five pieces per design, depending on size and color weighting.
Artful carpets are one thing. As an artist, you also create „String-Art“ works. How did you come up with this art form?
My first school lesson in Germany is to blame for that. (smiles) When I was taken to the classroom, all students drove nails into boards according to a precise template and then created their pictures with colored threads. I have always fondly remembered this first formative experience from my new homeland. Years later – ok, decades later (laughs) – I started to reinterpret the technology.
Reinterpreted to what extent?
I use very thin and filigree threads for my pictures, which allow different shades and also color accents to be worked out particularly well. It’s very important to me that in the end the most varied details in portraits or horse heads are clearly worked out. For the last picture I used about ten kilometers of thread. This length could have been laid almost one and a half times around the Hamburg Alster.
What is special about this art form?
I find it really fascinating when you „paint a picture“ with threads. It’s simple but expressive. And hopefully I’m not alone with this opinion. (smiles)
How long does it take to complete a String-Art image?
That always depends on how large the format and how complicated the desired motif is. Portraits of people are more difficult and challenging than horses, natural or architectural motifs. Basically, however, I sit at a picture for several weeks, but sometimes the creative process goes a little faster.
To which countries have you already sold your works?
My first commission came from the royal family in Abu Dhabi. In the meantime, I also sell to New York and California, to Japan, South America or to the Moroccan royal family. Even a german family that produces cars in Stuttgart is now one of my customers. These addresses are a great honor for my work. However, the most important thing for me is to have created something with my art that brings joy to its new owner every day. No matter who and no matter where.
Can you draw parallels between your art and your work, the art form of cardiac surgery?
Both require the highest precision, concentration and dedication. Both activities make me feel very happy. The key difference is: In my artistic work I can also allow myself to make a mistake – not in an operation!
Do you also do individual remittance work for your clients?
Yes, with pleasure! The joint creative process is not only often very inspiring, it also leads to good conversations and sometimes even to a friendship. And I really appreciate that!
The horse plays a major role in your art. Will it stay that way in the future?
The horse is and remains omnipresent in my art. But there will definitely be excursions that are less focused on this subject.
The carpets and String-Art-pictures were created from defining moments in your life. Does that mean we can look forward to more artful stories that your life has written so far?
Definitely! I’m already working on some new art projects, including a Polo-Collection planned for 2021. I’m sure that great pieces will be created because the world of Polo inspires me many levels. If you don’t like the Polo-Collection you can scold me at the next meeting. (laughs)

Allude and Nymphenburg present “Freya”, the cashmere comb made of the finest Nymphenburg porcelain.
Cashmere that’s second to none. Soft and woolly passion by Allude, designed in Munich, natural and sustainable. Combined with the finest porcelain in the world. Nymphenburg porcelain, handmade in the master workshops at the Northern Schlossrondell in Munich.

Exclusively for the Munich-based cashmere label, the artisans at Nymphenburg have created “Freya”, an elegantly shaped cashmere comb made of a matte white bisque porcelain. The smart hand palm stone has a chameleon-shaped design, and it is modern and pure, just like the cashmere pieces designed by Andrea Karg. The pure white piece with its two deep-black company logos – the Bavarian diamond-patterned coat of arms by Nymphenburg and Allude’s large cut A lend an exciting contrast.
Passion. Expertise. Sustainability. This collaboration brings to the fore the pinnacle of craftsmanship and the highest quality standards of two successful companies, each reflecting the international state-of-the-art in their fields. Here, humans, cashmere and porcelain form a bond. “Freya” becomes a precious friend that takes care of the most precious thing.
“Freya” is the prelude to an entire Friendship series by Allude and Nymphenburg. And each year another exciting personality joins this circle of friends. After all, it’s your good friends who share your fundamental values. At Allude and Nymphenburg, these values are palpable. A love for the material, for the craft, and for beauty. That is sensuality at its most exquisite.

A few years ago, Russian Irina Kazaridi started her career as an international photo-grapher. Since then she travels the world to shoot the “behind the scenes moments“ of polo. In St. Moritz she presents an exhibition of her work at the VIP tent.
Irina Kazaridi, a fine photographer who was an artist since childhood & studied art in St. Petersburg before going to the European Institute of Design in Milan.
She has exhibited different shows in various cities around Russia, Europe & Dubai. Including “Persistence of Vision”, about permanent and changeable, it’s a series of seascapes photographed over a period of time. “Light Frequency”, a series about yachts at night -Illusory play of light and reflections.
The research of a new story which could give an eternal inspiration led the artist into the world of horses: the grace enclosed in the anatomy of the animal, the sculptural lines of the croup and the majestic neck turn- the search of creating the perfect portrait – in the incessant pursuit of perfection.
Culture and tradition of horses originates in the East.
Hence the interest and love of the artist to places such as Meydan , where some of the brightest races of the world take place, and on the stables you can take pictures of the best horses.
Polo is another passion of the artist, which is reflected in her latest collection – emotion and human connection combine in this remarkable series. Irina travels the world from Normandy, Tuscany , St Moritz, Spain , Argentina, Dubai & Palm Beach capturing the drama and majestic grace of horse, rider, spectator trinity.
About my style and technique:
Characteristic techniques and features that form my style:
I work alone and have no any assistance in my shootings , except the groom or horseman. I don’t use any lamps, flashes or artificial lighting-
I Love to work with the natural sun light : diffuse, reflected or direct, which looks more natural on the photo and also is more comfortable for the horses.
The worthy result depends not only on my professionalism and a good camera;
it’s a series of circumstances putted together , as a weather conditions and light, character and current mood of the horse.
That’s why The results of shootings are often unpredictable, It’s kind of lottery, where the Luck is an irreplaceable factor.
In my frame, I want to emphasize the beauty of my model and even make it more perfect than in reality : I attach great importance to graphic forms, perfect composition and light.
Most of my works are black and white , minimalistic , on a white background.
Maybe that’s why my horse portraits are very graphic, and in my opinion, they are the perfect design item.
I like the idea of deliberately creating my work for interiors – probably because my muses are designers who revere horses , like Christian Liagre, Gilles & Boissier, Hermès…

Ready for a movie: A time-out like in a blockbuster Untouched sandy beach, tropical flora and 3,500 Aldabra giant tortoises: A beach day at Anse Parc on Fregate Island Private resembles a cinematic scene
Picturesque nature, dense tropical forests and large reptiles that play the main role: What sounds like the description of the blockbuster “Jurassic Park” is reality on the private Seychelles island Fregate Island Private. Whoever lands here by helicopter not only enters an exotic-tropical natural paradise, but also feels transported back to a time in which humans were far from existing. With a size of two square kilometers and only 17 private villas, guests on Fregate Island Private reside in absolute seclusion, while 3,500 leisurely Aldabra giant tortoises call the island their home – and anyone who finds their way through the dense jungle resembling Jurassic Park to the beach Anse Parc feels transported to a film backdrop here at the latest. Further information is available at www.fregate.com.
With a total of seven dream beaches and a diverse range of endemic flora and fauna, guests on Fregate immerse themselves in an absolute natural paradise – even a visit to the beach is like an exciting adventure! Thanks to its geological location, the island has powder-white sandy beaches in front of spectacular granite rocks, while blockbuster fans get their money’s worth in a special bay – the western coast of Fregate is like a cinematic backdrop that could have sprung from a Jurassic Park strip. But to get to the remote stretch of beach, you first go on a discovery tour: either on your own or on a guided tour with the island’s conservation team off the beaten track – one leads along the Tortoise Trail.
On the approximately one-hour hiking trail there are not only endemic bird species to be discovered, because the trail leads past a turtle graveyard and through dense jungle, where in the middle of the tropical green is a 300-year-old pirate ruin. The trail continues through dense, untouched forests of palm trees and endemic Takamaka trees. Whoever hears a loud hissing sound here will most likely encounter one of the many turtles retreating into their shell a few steps later – this is not a defense mechanism, however, the hissing sound is produced when the neck is pulled into the shell. Every single path of the island’s eleven kilometers of hiking trails is due to the gentle giants, who have found their way through the wild botany to the sea and thus developed their own routes. At the end of the path you can already see the glittering sea, which meets black rocks here at Anse Parc and underscores the natural beach spectacle. Sun-seekers are then spoilt for choice: let their gaze wander across the ocean to the neighboring Seychelles Islands or listen to the Aldabra giant tortoises and watch them roam the film set.

Jaguar Classic will create six matched pairs of E-types to celebrate the iconic sports car’s 60th anniversary in 2021: the E-type 60 Collection.
Each pair of E-type 60 Edition cars pay tribute to two of the oldest and most famous Jaguar E-types of all: ‘9600 HP’ and ‘77 RW’, which played pivotal roles in the unveiling of the car at its world debut in Geneva, Switzerland in March 1961.
An Opalescent Gunmetal Grey 3.8-litre Fixed-Head Coupe registered ‘9600 HP’ was one of the first two E-types unveiled to specially-invited guests at the Parc des Eaux Vives. Driven ‘flat out’ to Switzerland from Coventry the night before the launch, public relations manager Bob Berry arrived with minutes to spare for demonstration drives.
With an outstanding reaction to the E-type resulting in overwhelming demand for drives with Berry, legendary Jaguar Test and Development Engineer Norman Dewis was told to ‘drop everything’ and drive a British Racing Green 3.8-litre roadster registered ‘77 RW’ overnight from Coventry to Geneva.
Both cars were also used for media road tests, which proved the car’s sensational performance –including its 150mph top speed – matched its jet aircraft-inspired lines honed in a wind tunnel by aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer.
Every E-type 60 Edition built by the team at Jaguar’s Classic Works facility in Warwickshire will be an existing 1960s 3.8-litre E-type fully-restored to exclusive 60th anniversary tribute specification.
Each E-type 60 Collection pair will include one Flat Out Grey ‘9600 HP’ coupe and one Drop Everything Green ‘77 RW’ roadster, with unique paint formulations exclusively reserved for these cars. Each E-type 60 Edition will feature a number of 60th anniversary commemorative design details created in conjunction with Jaguar Design Director Julian Thomson.
Synonymous with the revolutionary zeitgeist of the Swinging Sixties, E-types were owned by celebrities including Steve McQueen, Brigitte Bardot, Frank Sinatra, George Harrison, Tony Curtis and Britt Ekland. And, thanks to the beauty of its sculptural forms, its functionality and its impact on design, an E-type became only the third car to join The Museum of Modern Art’s design collection in 1996.
“The Jaguar E-type is a genuine icon, as sensational today as the moment it was unveiled in 1961. It’s testament to the E-type’s advanced design and engineering that it can still be enjoyed and admired as passionately almost 60 years on. The E-type 60 Collection is a lasting tribute for E-type admirers, honouring the car’s legacy and the achievements of the team that created it – many of whom have descendants working for Jaguar Classic today, expertly restoring, maintaining and future-proofing enjoyment for generations to come.” DANIEL PINK DIREKTOR, JAGUAR CLASSIC
