Both teams inch a leg up on their competition as they scored their second win in the Gold Cup 2022 tournament.

Bangash Dodson & Horrell nicked the first goal of the afternoon. Habtoor Polo matched that goal with successive goals from which closed the first chukker at a 3 goal advantage. Haider Bangash, the team patron, scored one for his team with Federico von Potobsky‘s pass from the throw-in. Bautista Bayugar placed Habtoor Polo at a comfortable 5 goal lead by halftime. The penultimate chukker saw   Bangash Dodson & Horrell get back in the game and narrowed the gap to 3 goals. The team closed in Habtoor Polo early in the last chukker but Juan Jauretche nailed the team‘s 11th goal – enough to secure the team‘s second victory.

It was a close start for the next match between Zedan Polo and Ghantoot Polo with the first chukker ending at 3 goals to 1. Tomas Panelo from the Zedan Polo team drove the advantage up to 4 goals by the end of the second. The gap in scores did not improve during the next minutes with the near goal saves and misses. The penultimate chukker had seen Amr Zedan, the team patron, deliver the ball close to goal and Gonzalo Ferrari finishing it for the team. At this point Zedan has a 4 goal advantage that Ghantoot Polo was not able to beat and the game ended with a final score of 10 goals to 6.

16 February 2022: The qualifying matches of the Dubai Open 2022 are well underway, with the second day featuring Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series Polo against Abu Dhabi Polo and Dubai Wolves by CAFU versus AM Polo.

Lucas Monteverde Jr. scored first for UAE Polo with Segundo Amadori settling the first chukker at 1 goal each. Abu Dhabi Polo team took the lead by the end of the second chukker with goals from Jeronimo del Carril but UAE Polo managed a 5-goal advantage in the next two chukkers. The final chukker saw Abu Dhabi make a comeback as Jero and Santiago Cernadas narrowed the gap in scores. However, the lead UAE Polo had was enough to seal the win for the team at 9 goals to 6.

AM Polo showed early dominance in the next match as the first chukker closed at 2 goals to nil. Dubai Wolves by CAFU made up for its slow start with back to back goals during the second. The third chukker was a scuffle for the Wolves to extend their lead and the team successfully carved a 3-goal advantage with its Patron – Habtoor Al Habtoor – picking up a long-range pass from Alfredo Cappella. The team kept the momentum during the penultimate chukker, ending it with a 5-goal lead. Alejandro Muzzio placed AM Polo back on the scoreboard with consecutive goals during the final chukker.

But the commanding lead of the Dubai Wolves by CAFU plus the additional goals it landed earned them their first win in the tournament.

Habtoor Polo, fresh from its glory at the Silver Cup 2022, faced the defending champions of the Gold Cup – Ghantoot Polo – on the grounds of Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club.

Marcos (Cacu) Araya opened the match with a goal for Ghantoot and, Mohammed Al Habtoor, the patron of the Habtoor Polo team, closed the first chukker with a 1-goal advantage. The team continued the streak of goal shots and extended its lead with 2 goals. Cacu placed Ghantoot back on the scoreboard during the third chukker but Bautista Bayugar managed to keep the lead to Habtoor Polo‘s side by halftime. The penultimate chukker saw the team carve a 4-goal lead which Ghantoot closed in on but did not manage to beat. The game ended with a final score of 8 goals to 7 in favour of Habtoor Polo.

Bangash Dodson & Horrell Polo team took the lead quickly from Zedan Polo at the second match of the day. Amr Zedan, the patron of the opposing team shifted the advantage by the end of the second chukker and the team kept its lead through halftime. Benjamin Panelo from Bangash levelled the game during the fourth chukker with penalty shots. His brother, Tomas Panelo, saw to it that the final chukker belongs to the Zedan Polo team as he scored 3 goals and the team took their first win in the tournament.

12 February 2022, Dubai, UAE: The afternoon opened with a penalty shot from Ernesto Trotz at the subsidiary final of the tournament. Estancia Lamar Polo team dominated the first half of the game against El Basha Polo and maintained a 3-goal advantage at the end of the third chukker. Tommy Beresford for El Basha Polo managed to close the gap in scores during the last chukker, but the win still fell in the hands of Estancia Lamar as the game ended with a final score of 6 goals to 5.

The final featured a match between Bin Drai Polo and Ankora Polo teams, and Raul Laplacette closed the first chukker with a 1-goal lead for Bin Drai. Laplacette‘s consecutive goal shots placed the team in a comfortable lead by halftime.Ricardo Garros for Ankora Polo nicked 2 goals for the team, but the advantage stayed on Bin Drai‘s side. Mohammed Bin Drai stole the ball and converted it to a point making Ankora‘s work cut out for them at the last chukker of the game. Faisal Yabroudi‘s last-second goal sealed the win for Bin Drai at 9 goals to 6.

Philippe D‘Amat, General Manager of Al Habtoor Polo Resort hotel awarded the teams of the day. Pico Flor was the Best Playing Pony ridden by the tournament‘s Most Valuable Player – Ricardo Garros.

Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series (DPGC) was founded in 2009 by Mohammed Al Habtoor, patron of the Habtoor Polo team and Chairman of the UAE Polo Federation DPGC Series started out with one tournament – the Gold Cup (Dubai Open) – and has grown into a series five premier Polo Tournaments in the Middle East – the Silver Cup, Gold Cup, Polo Masters Cup, Dubai Challenge Cup and the Dubai Cup. Narrow win for Hesketh Polo, ending the game with a half goal lead against Lionesses Polo.

29 October 2021, Dubai, UAE: The third edition of the Ladies Charity Cup, held in association with Al Jalila Foundation and Brest Friends, gathers the strength of women in the sport of polo in honour of the breast cancer awareness advocacy.

The afternoon featured two exhibition matches, a pink-themed picnic area where guests enjoyed the games in polo picnic style, a shopping village, free breast examinations from SEHA, free activities for the little ones, prizes for the best-dressed ladies, and competitions with valuable prizes.

The first match between the Pink Warriors and Pink Soldiers opened with a goal from Raja Abuljebain, and the Warriors closed the first chukker at 2 goals to nil. The team kept its lead by halftime and carved a 3 goal lead at the end of the third chukker. The Pink Soldiers managed to close the gap in scores during the last quarter but, Habtoor Al Habtoor scored back to back goals and closed the game at 5 – 2 goals.

The ladies match saw Hesketh Polo face a new team – Lionesses Polo. Hesketh Polo dominated the first half of the game and the penultimate chukker saw a Lionesses make a comeback as they took the lead at 3 goals to 2.5.  Lauren Dickson broke the lead during the fourth chukker only to be reciprocated by a goal from Georgina 

Brittany. With a few seconds left on clock, Lee Slimmings scored a goal that sealed Hesketh‘s claim to the Ladies Charity Cup 2021 trophy with a final score of 4.5 – 4.

Fatima Al Hamadi, a patient representative from SEHA, awarded the teams of the day. Georgina Brittany was the most valuable player. Madel, an Al Habtoor Polo Academy horse was the Best Playing Pony of the day. The winners received gifts from Black Hound Sports Dubai, Biologique Recherche, and The Bunch Box.

The Club also hosted a Charity Auction for the benefit of its charity partner. The auction featured beautiful works of art from the Art Connects Women collection donated by Zee Arts Gallery. Valuable polo memorabilia signed by polo superstars such as Pablo Mac Donough, the 10-goalers from the Pieres clan, Facundo Sola and Alfredo Cappella, were also showcased at the auction.

30 April 2021, Dubai, UAE: The last tournament of the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club‘s polo calendar ended with a runaway win for the Ankora Polo against Hesketh Polo team.

The tournament final saw Ankora Polo take a dominant position with its flurry of goals in the first chukker Ricardo Garros. The following chukker followed a similar trend with Hesketh Polo scoring only a handful of goals that by halftime, Ankora was at a 4 goal lead. Aiti ramped up the lead with 3 goals during the third that increased the gap in scores by 7. Relentless, the team scored an additional 2 goals at the final chukker and closed the game at 13 goals to 5.

24 April 2021, Dubai, UAE: The Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club hosted its first End of Season Polo Awards 2021 in Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Hotel and recognized the exemplary display of athleticism during its Polo Season from 2020 to 2021.

The Club‘s polo calendar comprised of 14 tournaments that started in October 2020 and had received the participation of players based locally and abroad with the support of its trusted sponsors and partners. It had seen new teams form throughout the season through collaborations and sponsorships in its games. The Club also witnessed its Polo Academy students advance in the Sport of Kings as they polished their skills in several Club Chukkers and Kids Polo matches.

The End of Season Polo Awards 2021 marked the culmination of the consistent performance of the team behind each polo event of the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club. The evening attended by Mohammed Al Habtoor, Vice Chairman and CEO of Habtoor Group with other key members of the polo community. The winners of the evening received gifts from Il Giardino Flowers Boutique, Baylandi House of Scarf, Majesticq, Equusir, Black Hound Sports Dubai and U.S. Polo Assn.

14 April 2021, Dubai, UAE: Habtoor Polo team claimed the last trophy of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series for the fourth year as it smashed the competition – Ankora/Dr. A Polo team and closed the game at 7 goals to 5.

Round robin games amongst AM Polo, Dubai IMMO and El Basha Polo teams kicked off the Subsidiary Match of the Dubai Cup 2021.

Habtoor Polo team‘s performance throughout the final was consistent and had the early lead with 2 goals. Ankora/Dr. A Polo team on its tail, Ricardo Garros managed to match the goals delivered by its opponent by halftime. The final chukker had seen Aiti Garros threaten the impending win for Habtoor Polo as he levelled the game at 5 goals at mid chukker. Both teams raced for the win and Santiago Gomez Romero nicked the 6th goal for Habtoor Polo and with ample time on the clock, Ankora/Dr. A Polo attempted to tie the game once more. But Habtoor Al Habtoor broke through and delivered an excellent runaway goal that sealed the win for Habtoor Polo team.

11 April 2021, Dubai, UAE: The last of the qualifying matches for the Dubai Cup 2021 concluded with a win for Ankora – Dr. A and Habtoor Polo teams.

It was a slow first chukker with Tomy Iriarte scoring the first goal for Ankora – Dr. A Polo team. The team pushed the lead further during the second and created a 2.5 goal cushion and extended the winning stride through the end of the game, closing it at 6 goals to 2.5.

Match Progression:  1 – .5 | 4 – 1.5 | 5 – 2.5 | 6 – 2.5

The game between Habtoor Polo and Dubai IMMO Polo teams opened with a goal from Juanji Diaz Alberdi, setting Dubai IMMO ahead in the first chukker. Habtoor Polo responded with 3 goals during the second chukker and carved a 4-goal lead by the third. Dubai IMMO set on its tail managed to close the gap in scores but ultimately Habtoor Polo kept its significant goal lead to victory and ended the match at 7 goals to 4.

9 April 2021, Dubai, UAE: The first match of the afternoon was between El Basha and Dubai IMMO teams with Juanji Diaz Alberdi scoring the first goal from 60 yards.

Justo Cuitino took El Basha Polo on the lead with a 1 goal advantage by halftime. Ed Banner Eve extended the lead with 3 goals at the end of the third chukker. Dubai IMMO, with its work cut out for them, managed to close the gap in scores midway through the final chukker and Tomas Palacios Bacque created a tie with less than 2 minutes left on the clock. The intense play continued during the fifth chukker and Hani Jabshe scored the golden goal that sealed the win for the El Basha Polo team.

The next match was between AM Polo and Ankora/Dr. A with Dr Al Abbar nicking the first goal of the game. It was a fast first chukker with AM Polo grabbing the lead courtesy of Pablo Urquiza‘s consecutive goals. The next chukker ensued with the same rigour as Khalid Alomran levelled the game but, AM Polo closed the chukker with back to back goals and kept the 2-goal lead past halftime. The last chukker saw an intense play as AM Polo defended its position and Ankora/Dr. A attempted to create a tie close to the end of the game and it was Urquiza‘s penalty shot that sealed the win for AM Polo at 7 goals to 5.
