“We love that we can use the beautiful sport of polo to bring fans together at this exciting event while supporting a cause that impacts so many of us and our families,” added J. Michael Prince, President and CEO of USPA Global Licensing, the exclusive worldwide licensor for the USPA’s global licensing program and parent organization to the U.S. Polo Assn. brand. “Today, women are making such a huge, positive impact on both the sport and on our brand, so we are supporting events such as this around the world as part of own Women’s Initiative Program.”

Dr Sawsan Al Madhi, Director General of FOCP and Head of the Pink Caravan‘s Medical and Awareness Committee said: “As an organisation dedicated to promoting and raising cancer awareness in the UAE, we believe in the power of partnerships to expand the scope of our work to improve the standards of breast cancer screening and treatment within the UAE, and highlight the critical importance of early detection.

“We are delighted to be joining hands with well-known U.S. Polo Assn. to further our goals for this worthy cause and extend the benefits of our work to a larger population across the UAE. Such meaningful collaborations reflect on our nation’s humanitarian spirit, and will boost our efforts in bringing early detection to the forefront and to serve as a key resource for cancer patients, their families and caregivers.”

For two weeks, young polo players from Africa toured in the United Kingdom.

2019 is the 150th year anniversary of the game of polo in the United Kingdom. As part of the celebrations, the organisers of the “150Polo” invited the Poloafrica Development Trust to send a team from South Africa on tour to England. In collaboration with the U.S. Polo Assn., the two-week trip culminated in a game played at the world-famous Guards Polo Club in June, at the same day as the Royal Windsor Cup Final. The Poloafrica Development Trust was founded by Catherine Cairns, a management consultant, who made a polo destination out of the Uitgedacht Farm in the Free State in South Africa. “We are thrilled to partner with PoloAfrica,” said J. Michael Prince, President and CEO of USPA Global Licensing Inc.

U.S. Polo Assn., the official brand of the United States Polo Association and its licensing partners, Brand Machine (United Kingdom) and Stable Brands (South Africa), announced the collaboration with PoloAfrica to bring youth polo players from Africa to tour the United Kingdom this summer.

The two-week trip will culminate in a game to be played at the world-famous Guards Polo Club on June 23, 2019, the same day as the Royal Windsor Cup Final, an event at which the trophy is traditionally presented by Her Majesty the Queen and attended by many celebrities.  Other participating sponsors supporting this initiative include Polo150 and the U.K. Armed Forces Polo Association.

Now in its 12th year, PoloAfrica is based in the foothills of the Maluti mountains in the Eastern Free State of South Africa, on the border of Lesotho. Created to benefit rural economically disadvantaged communities, it provides adults the opportunity to engage in equestrian activities in a professional manner and provides children the chance to learn to ride and play polo. A chief goal is helping children expand their horizons, provided they maintain their schoolwork and demonstrate discipline and commitment to caring for the program’s polo ponies.

Ranging in age from 15 to 24, the PoloAfrica team making this groundbreaking tour of the United Kingdom this summer includes: Tebello Mokoarane, NkopaneNikopane, Johanne Mofokeng, Molefi Ralebenya and Tinto Mothijoa. Other members of the PoloAfrica organization accompanying the young players on the tour include Thabo Johannes Mkhwanazi, who will serve as coach and captain; Naledi Nkopane, who will oversee the ponies and will also serve as umpire and coach; and Catherine Cairns, Founder of the PoloAfrica Development Trust.

“We are thrilled to partner with PoloAfrica to support these young aspiring players who have demonstrated the dedication and desire to learn the sport of polo,” said J. Michael Prince, President and CEO of USPA Global Licensing Inc., who manages U.S. Polo Assn. globally.  “We have a significant brand presence in both the United Kingdom and Africa and believe this event is another authentic way to engage both sports fans and consumers in our key markets while supporting an important cause and the sport of polo.”

“U.S. Polo Assn. continues to build momentum in the African market through our collaborations with key partners such as PoloAfrica and Sentebale that support the sport of polo and important causes in the region,” commented Andrew Robinson, CEO of Stable Brands.  “We are also very excited about the rapid expansion U.S. Polo Assn. is having in Africa and believe it will soon be one of the largest global brands in the market.”

If Pilot Polo Team wins the U.S. Open Polo Championship® on April 21, the team will be the first ever GAUNTLET Champion and receive the 1 Million Dollar Purse. Pilot secured its title as the winner of the USPA Gold Cup® on March 25 with a score of 12-11 over Aspen at the U.S. Polo Assn. Stadium Field at the International Polo Club Palm Beach (IPC) in Wellington, Fla. With the latest win from Pilot, the stakes are higher than ever with the potential of a first ever GAUNTLET OF POLO™ champion. The team, winning every game of the first two tournaments, is on its way to be crowned the first ever GAUNTLET Champion. The next chapter will be determined on April 21, after Pilot competes in the U.S. Open Polo Championship®, held March 27 through April 21, 2019.

The inaugural GAUNTLET OF POLO was created to develop a high-stakes polo competition that offers players and fans an exciting three months of the highest level of skilled athletes, equine partners and strategic planning that ends with $1M prize across three tournaments – C.V. Whitney Cup, USPA Gold Cup and the U.S. Open Polo Championship.

For the first time in the sport, the tournament series will include a “Winner Take All” prize money format. Pilot has already secured $125,000 for winning the C.V. Whitney Cup plus $125,000 for winning the USPA Gold Cup. And if they win the U.S. Open Polo Championship they will receive a $250,000 prize, $500,000 bonus and be crowned the GAUNTLET Champion.

“We are thrilled to see a team progress this far in the first-ever GAUNTLET OF POLO. The team is competing for more than just bragging rights, they are competing for $1M and the Gauntlet Champion, polo’s ultimate test. In addition to strategic planning and outstanding athleticism required to win this many games consecutively, the GAUNTLET offers existing and new fans a fun and exciting day of polo. Whether it’s a VIP brunch or “courtside” seats on the stadium side, we have activities for everyone,” said David Cummings, President and CEO, Global Polo Entertainment.

One key differentiation in the GAUNTLET OF POLO is that for the first time in history there are 16 teams (64 players and a minimum of 640 polo horses) playing consistently across all three tournaments. The GAUNTLET also features some of the world’s finest 10 goal players, premier athletes who have a lifetime’s worth of equine and polo achievements that require a level of expertise shared by less than 1 percent of the polo population. This year’s participating 10 goalers are #2 in the world, Facundo Pieres, Polito Pieres, Sapo Caset, Hilario Ulloa, Gonzalito Pieres and Nico Pieres.

All GAUNTLET games will be livestreamed on USPA Polo Network or live-streamed on the U.S. Polo Network YouTube channel each week with the final event airing on CBS Sports, April 28 at 2 PM EDT.
