WELLINGTON, FL, March 20, 2021— Dundas defeated Newport by 12-10 to capture the title in the Sieber Memorial.

Dundas (Cable Magness, Juan Cruz Marcos, Hugo Taylor and Tatu Gomez Romero) faced off against Newport (Gene Goldstein, Milo Dorignac, Michel Dorignac, and Nick Manifold) yesterday in the final match of the Sieber Memorial. Newport, a 12-goal team, ceded one goal to 11-goal Dundas on handicap. The two teams had met earlier in the tournament, with Newport besting Dundas by 15-11.

Neither team wasted any time feeling out the other, and both played aggressively from the first throw-in. Newport’s Michel Dorignac, the highest rated player on the field at 6 goals, put the first goal on the board with a successful Penalty 2 conversion. With 2:41 on the clock, Tatu Gomez Romero broke away from his pursuers to put the ball through the posts and his team in the lead at 2-1. With just over a minute left to play, Michel Dorignac stole the ball from Gomez Romero to score his second goal of the chukker and tie the score at 2-all. As the clock ticked down after the 30-second horn, Englishman Hugo Taylor took control and swept the ball through the uprights to end the period with Dundas leading 3-2.

Dundas managed to stymie Newport in the second period, keeping them away from the goal and thwarting their efforts to score. Hugo Taylor knocked the ball in once again, and Gomez Romero followed up with back-to-back goals to end the chukker with Dundas leading 6-2. Newport continued to suffer in the third period, and their only goal came from a Penalty 4 shot by Michel Dorignac. Cable Magness took a successful shot on goal, reliably followed by Taylor and Gomez Romero. Dundas ended the half with a decisive lead of 9-3.

After their disappointing first half, Newport returned to the field with renewed determination and began to fight their way back, outscoring Dundas in the fourth and fifth chukkers. At the top of the fourth chukker, just over a minute into play, Gene Goldstein stayed ahead of his pursuers to sweep the ball through the goal. Less than a minute later, Michel Dorignac got out in front to score his fourth goal of the day. With 3:29 left on the clock, Nick Manifold broke away to put the ball through the posts for Newport again. At 2:27, Juan Cruz Marcos scored the only goal for Dundas, ending the period with Dundas leading 10-6.

Newport continued their hot streak in the fifth chukker, keeping Dundas off the board while racking up another three goals to put them within one goal of Dundas. Nick Manifold and Milo Dorignac shot from the field to score, while Michel Dorignac enjoyed another success from the penalty line. Going into the final chukker, it was anyone’s match. Gomez Romero took Dundas up to 11 goals on the board, but a foul by the team in black gave Michel Dorignac the opportunity to convert another Penalty 2. Unfortunately for Newport, they lost some of the momentum from the previous two chukkers and were unable to score from the field. A final goal from Gomez Romero saw Dundas defeat Newport by 12-10.

Tatu Gomez Romero was named the Most Valuable Player. Leona, played by Cable Magness in the second chukker, took the honor of Best Playing Pony.

WELLINGTON, FL, February 8, 2021— Scone defeated La Indiana by 14-13 to win the 2021 Sterling Cup title.

In what was undoubtedly the most exciting match of the 2021 Sterling Cup, Scone (David Paradice, Poroto Cambiaso, Peke Gonzalez, and Adolfo Cambiaso) faced off against La Indiana (Nico Escobar, Jeff Hall, Polito Pieres, and Milo Dorignac) at Grand Champions Polo Club on Sunday.

La Indiana’s Nico Escobar, who played an outstanding match, scored the first of his six goals for the day just 30 seconds into the first chukker. Slightly less than a minute later, Cambiaso baited young Escobar into a penalty and Peke Gonzalez converted on the Penalty 2 to put a goal on the board for Scone. Milo Dorignac retaliated with a goal that put his team into the lead. La Indiana played aggressively, keeping the pressure on Adolfo Cambiaso, and Escobar socred again at 1:53. Unfortunately, he followed up with another foul, allowing Peke Gonzalez to convert a Penalty 3. La Indiana ended the chukker up by 1 goal, at 3-2.

Gonzalez started the second chukker by converting a Penalty 2, tying the score at 3-3. Another foul by La Indiana gave him the chance to score on a Penalty 3, putting Scone in the lead at 3-4. While La Indiana was outplaying Scone from the field, overzealousness on their part was to their detriment, giving Scone a few too many opportunities to score from the penalty line. As the chukker progressed, Scone begain to win the throw-ins and take control of the field.

At just under 4 minutes, Adolfo Cambiaso sent the ball downfield to Poroto, who made a spectacular goal from 60 yards. Escobar scored La Indiana’s last goal in the chukker with two-and-a-half minutes left to play, but Scone completed their turnaround from the first chukker with another goal by Adolfo Cambiaso and a beautiful neck shot by Gonzalez with 55 seconds remaining on the clock. The chukker ended at 7-4 for Scone.

Early in the third chukker, La Indiana made the mistake of leaving the door open for Poroto, who made a strong run to the goal. Jeff Hall made one of his best plays of the day when he saw Adolfo coming for him and switched to the near side to score. With four minutes left in the chukker, Escobar saw an opportunity after the throw-in, signaling Polito Pieres for the pass and taking the ball to goal. Following another successful shot by Poroto, the two ten-goalers got into a sword fight near the boards that resulted in a Penalty 4 goal for Pieres and ended the half with Scone in the lead 9-7.

The fourth chukker began at a frenetic pace, and after two minutes of back-and-forth play Escobar finally found the goal. Poroto got a whistle for crossing the line, giving Pieres a chance to score on a Penalty 4, but the shot went wide just left of the post. With two minutes left on the board, Milo Dorignac demonstrated a textbook rideoff but missed an opportunity for a backhander, giving Cambiaso pére the opportunity to boost the score to 10-8. With 56 seconds left to play, Poroto capitalized on a mistake in front of the goal to end the chukker 11-8 for Scone.

Throughout the tournament, La Indiana has been a big scorer in the fifth chukker. They slowed the pace today and following a goal by Poroto early in the period, answered with only two goals of their own. With 2:23 left to play, Escobar scored his sixth and final goal of the day. At just 12 seconds left on the clock, Jeff Hall picked Cambiaso’s pocket and slammed the ball downfield to Pieres, who whalloped it through to end the pentultimate chukker at 12-10 with Scone still in the lead.

La Indiana was firing on all cylinders again, but nobody wants to go into the final chukker down by two to Cambiaso. Just over a minute into the final chukker, despite every possible effort by Nico Escobar to thwart him, Cambiaso found the goal in a striking demonstration of his preternatural abilities. Following a goal by Pieres, Milo Dorignac got the better of Peke Gonzalez to bring La Indiana within one goal of Scone, at 13-12.

With just under two minutes left, a series of missed opportunities by La Indiana left the ball in front of the goal, where Adolfo Cambiaso made quick work of it and put Scone up 14-12. Milking the clock, Cambiaso took the ball to the boards. Following a foul by David Paradice, Polito Pieres had the opportunity to convert a penalty, but it was cold comfort for La Indiana and Scone took the Sterling Cup title by 14-13.

Adolfo Cambiaso was named MVP, while Dolfina Paloma, owned by J5 and played by Adolfo Cambiaso in the third chukker, was named Best Playing Pony.

Wellington, FL – February 7, 2021 – The 2021 Ylvisaker Cup concluded at the International Polo Club Palm Beach (IPC) on Sunday with the fourth meeting of the season between Beverly Polo and Palm Beach Equine. Under some rainy conditions on the Home of the U.S. Polo Assn – Field 1, Hilario Figueras and Tolito Ocampo scored five goals each to lead Beverly Polo to the 15-11 victory and capture the Ylvisaker Cup title.

Facing their third consecutive final, 16-goal Beverly Polo’s system finally paid off to capture their first title of the year. Maintaining their momentum from the semifinal victory against Tamera, Beverly Polo displayed a strong offense and defense, leaving Palm Beach Equine trailing throughout the entire game. Joaquin Panelo, who filled in for Peke Gonzalez, showcased an outstanding performance, displaying hit and run plays while adding two goals. Despite shooting 64% from the field, Palm Beach Equine committed 13 fouls that resulted in six penalty conversions for Beverly Polo. Along with the additional opportunities from the field, Beverly Polo overwhelmed Palm Beach Equine in one of their strongest games of the year to complete the four-goal victory.

With a two-goal advantage, Beverly Polo was able to maintain that lead, withstanding an early push from Palm Beach Equine. Costi Caset opened the scoring, but two missed penalty attempts allowed Beverly Polo to stay ahead by two after Ocampo’s first goal. Reorganizing, Palm Beach Equine began to take advantage of their opportunities, converting three of their four attempts from the field, while also adding a Penalty 3 conversion. The fast-paced second chukker saw a response from Beverly Polo with two goals from Ocampo and one from newcomer Panelo. The duo of Ocampo and Figueras took over in the final stages of the first half, scoring two goals each in the third chukker, while actively defending against the Palm Beach Equine attack. Conceding zero shot attempts, Beverly Polo allowed two penalty goals, but remained in the lead, holding the 10-7 advantage at halftime.

Beverly Polo began the second half using their defense to push further ahead. Holding Palm Beach Equine to zero shot attempts for the second consecutive chukker, Beverly Polo extended their lead to five thanks to the strong attack of Panelo, who worked seamlessly with his teammates in his first game of the season. Needing a quick response, Palm Beach Equine regained some momentum on two goals from Caset, cutting the deficit to three. More importantly, Beverly Polo was kept off the scoreboard, leaving one chukker for Palm Beach Equine to continue their comeback attempt. Foul trouble was a consistent factor for Palm Beach Equine and in the final chukker it ultimately sealed their fate as Figueras converted both penalty attempts. Bill Ballhaus scored an impressive flip tail finish to complete the 15-11 victory and secure the Ylvisaker Cup title for Beverly Polo.

Figueras was awarded Most Valuable Player, while Best Playing Pony was given to “One Juliana,” played by Tolito Ocampo throughout the game, and Ballhaus received the 18 Goal Sportsmanship Award.

Wellington, FL – February 4, 2021 – With a spot in the 2021 Ylvisaker Cup final on the line, Beverly Polo pulled off an emphatic victory Thursday at the International Polo Club Palm Beach, defeating Tamera 11-5. The efficient attacking skills of Hilario Figueras, who led the way with six goals, helped secure the convincing victory and compete in their third consecutive final, facing Palm Beach Equine on the Home of the U.S. Polo Assn – Field 1.

Beverly Polo and Tamera met earlier in the Ylvisaker Cup with Tamera capturing the 14-10 victory, but Wednesday’s semifinal provided a different story as Beverly Polo came out strong and never trailed at any point in the game. Figueras provided a dynamic effort for Beverly Polo, matching his entire number of field goals in the season in one game, coming forward from the #4 position to add five goals in open play. Tamera had difficulties matching Beverly Polo, converting just two of their 11 shot attempts, affecting their chances to mount a comeback. Controlling possession, Beverly Polo’s defense was a significant factor in the game, holding Tamera to just one goal throughout the second half. Joining Figueras on the attack, Tolito Ocampo contributed with four assists to provide a strong duo for Beverly Polo to capture the impressive six-goal victory.

A strong start from Beverly Polo allowed them to build on their two-goal advantage on handicap, increasing the lead to three after goals from Figueras and Ocampo. Diego Cavanagh converted a Penalty 4 to get Tamera on the scoreboard as the remainder of the first half saw the teams locked in a defensive battle. Beverly Polo went scoreless in the second chukker allowing Tamera to pull closer, but inaccurate shooting from the field and penalty line resulted in Tamera only scoring one goal off the mallet of Cavanagh to trail 4-2. Despite conceding the first goal in the third chukker, Tamera fought to close the gap, receiving one goal each from Lucas Escobar and Cavanagh, pulling within one goal, and trail Beverly Polo 5-4 at half time.

Unwilling to concede their lead, Beverly Polo raced out of the gate in the second half, shooting at goal five times in the fourth chukker, but it led to just one field goal from Figueras. With the possession advantage, Beverly Polo kept Tamera pinned in their own half and prevented them from scoring to extend the lead back to two. In the most decisive chukker of the game, Beverly Polo’s defense kept Tamera off the scoreboard once again while producing three goals from Figueras, Ocampo and Peke Gonzalez to turn a two-goal lead into a five-goal advantage. Finishing their strong performance, Beverly Polo managed their lead, adding two more goals from Figueras to book their spot in the final with the dominant 11-5 victory.

WELLINGTON, FL, February 2, 2021 – La Indiana defeated Casablanca by 14-10 on Friday while Scone scored a 13-9 victory over Santa Rita on Sunday.

La Indiana (Nico Escobar, Jeff Hall, Polito Pieres and Michael Bickford) met Casablanca (Hope Arellano, Grant Ganzi, Juan Martin Nero, and Juan Martin Zubia) at La Indiana Polo Farm on Friday afternoon as the action continued in the 22-goal Sterling Cup.

La Indiana was firing on all cylinders Friday, outscoring Casablanca in five of the six chukkers. They came out of the bowl-in aggressively, with Polito Pieres shooting on goal just 14 seconds into play. Casablanca dodged a bullet with the shot going just wide, and La Indiana missed several more opportunities to score by just a hair before Michael Bickford came through with the first goal of the day.

Casablanca finally got on the board in the second chukker with a successful Penalty 2 conversion by Juan Martin Zubia, but two goals by Polito Pieres and another by Nico Escobar ended the second chukker with La Indiana leading 4-1. In the third chukker, La Indiana had increased the lead to 7-1, when back-to-back goals by Hope Arellano narrowed the lead to 4. A final goal by Nico Escobar ended the half 8-3 for La Indiana.

Juan Martin Zubia was hard at it for Casablanca during the second half of the match, scoring two goals to La Indiana’s three to end the fourth chukker 10-5. In the fifth chukker play was more back and forth and Casablanca showed more mettle, with two goals by Escobar answered by Grant Ganzi and Zubia. In the final chukker, Michael Bickford put a final ball between the posts for La Indiana while Juan Martin Zubia poured on the steam to score three consecutive goals. It was an impressive final chukker for Casablanca, but La Indiana won the day 14-10.

On Sunday, Santa Rita (Riley Ganzi, Nic Roldan, Alejandro Novillo Astrada, and Juan Bollini) met Dundas Scone (Sarah Magness, Poroto Cambiaso, Peke Gonzalez, and Adolfo Cambiaso) on Santa Rita’s Field Three. Santa Rita, with a 20-goal team, started the match with two goals on handicap.

Santa Rita started on the right foot, with Nic Roldan picking Poroto Cambiaso’s pocket out of the bowl-in and taking the ball down field for a shot on goal that went just wide. Play continued with some aggressive back-and-forth action until Nic Roldan connected with a pass from Alejandro Novillo Astrada and found the goal with two minutes left in the chukker. The period ended 1-0 for Santa Rita, who had to enjoy the lead while they could.

Scone captain Adolfo Cambiaso clearly offered some inspirational words following the chukker, because the tables turned with a vengeance in the second period. Peke Gonzalez scored before the first minute was up, and around the five-minute mark Cambiaso péremade a spectacular 300-yard run to put his first goal of the day on the board. Peke put two more goals on the board, one on an elegant near-side neck shot, and Cambiaso filsscored the final goal of the chukker to end the second period 5-3 for Scone.

It was a tough chukker for Santa Rita, outscored 5-0, but any team facing the pitiless duo of Adolfo and Poroto Cambiaso is in for an uphill battle. The third chukker saw more of the same, with two goals from Poroto and one from Gonzalez before Nic Roldan scored on a Penalty 5, ending the chukker 8-4 with Scone in the lead.

Two more goals from Poroto Cambiaso in the fourth chukker had Scone ahead by 10-4 when Nic Roldan poured on the steam to chip away at their lead. He scored two consecutive goals, ending the period with Scone ahead 10-6. Early in the fifth chukker, Roldan converted on a Penalty 2, and at 10-7 Santa Rita fans enjoyed some renewed hope. Unfortunately, the Cambiasos put paid to that optimism. With three minutes left in the chukker, Poroto found the goal with an impressive neck shot. With just over two minutes to go, Adolfo was about a length ahead of the pack when he snapped up the ball and made a run to goal.

In the final chukker, Poroto converted on a Penalty 4, racking up the last goal of the match for Scone. Astrada and Roldan each scored a goal, narrowing Scone’s victory to 13-9. Poroto Cambiaso was the high scoring player of the match, with 7 goals, while Roldan scored a total of six goals for Santa Rita. Riley Ganzi impressed by more than holding her own marking Adolfo Cambiaso, a notable achievement in her very first high goal match.

Wellington, FL – January 31, 2021 – The final group game in the 2021 Ylvisaker Cup provided a unique situation as Aspen needed a victory to advance straight to the semifinal or face a loss that eliminated them from the tournament. On the Home of the U.S. Polo Assn – Field 1 at the International Polo Club Palm Beach (IPC), the game came down to the final seconds with Tamera narrowly defeating Aspen 11-10 thanks to the seven-goal performance from Diego Cavanagh to book their spot in the semifinal.

A back-and-forth game featured opportunities for both Aspen and Tamera, but despite shooting just 40% from the field, Tamera produced enough scoring chances, including three second-half goals from the penalty line to capture the victory. Aspen shot an accurate 62% from the field, but foul trouble proved to be a deciding factor in the match. Entering the game averaging 4.5 goals per game, Tamera held Aspen’s Keko Magrini to zero goals, leaving Lucas James to lead the Aspen offense with seven goals, but it was not enough to overcome the strong performance from Tamera, who held off the late attack to emerge victorious.

Aspen claimed the early lead behind two goals from Lucas James, including one from the penalty line, to hold the early advantage. Tamera had their chances to match Aspen but missed two penalty conversions to trail 3-1. Tamera’s Lucas Escobar scored the first goal in the second chukker, but they fell short of taking the lead as Aspen‘s defense changed the pace of the game. Limited to just one goal over the second and third chukkers, Aspen saw their lead evaporate due to the performance of Cavanagh. Accounting for all three goals in the third chukker, Cavanagh’s impressive stretch gave Tamera their first lead of the game at 5-4 heading into halftime.

Tamera was not able to keep their momentum into the fourth chukker with Aspen bringing the game even at 6-6 after James’ goal and assist to Stewart Armstrong tied the score. Aspen continued to work hard in the fifth chukker, but Tamera’s offense and defense proved to be effective, allowing them to retake the lead. After Cavanagh and James traded penalty goals, Tamera finished the fifth chukker strong to hold a two-goal advantage. Two quick goals from James increased the tension at the field with the game tied at 9-9 and the fate of the Ylvisaker Cup hanging in the balance for Aspen. Cavanagh’s sixth goal was quickly matched by James as the clock ticked down and the teams remained tied, but it was Tamera that found themselves on the penalty line to capture the victory. Under immense pressure, Lucas Escobar converted the Penalty 3 to seal the 11-10 victory and secure a spot in the semifinal. James was awarded Most Valuable Player, while “Zebra,” played by James and owned by Pilot Polo, won Best Playing Pony.

Tamera will play against Beverly Polo in the semifinal on Wednesday at IPC, with Palm Beach Equine awaiting the winner to determine the Ylvisaker Cup champion.

WELLINGTON, FL, January 31, 2021 – Dundas prevailed over Bushwood on Saturday by a score of 12-9 to win the Aspen Valley 8-Goal Cup.

Dundas (Sarah Siegel-Magness, Fran Spinacci, Mariano Fassetta, and Robertito Zedda) met Bushwood (Nick McClelland, Nick Manifold, Kris Kampsen, and Michael Armour) in the final match of the Aspen Valley 8-Goal Cup yesterday at Grand Champions’ Santa Rita Polo Farm. Dundas, fielding a 7-goal team, started the match with one goal on the board.

Bushwood took control of the ball at the bowl-in, shooting on goal just 20 seconds into play, but Robertito Zedda of Dundas drew first blood of the match. Michael Armour put the first goal on the board for Bushwood, and Kris Kampsen, continuing his 100% streak on penalty shots in the Aspen Valley Cup, converted on a penalty 3. Mariano Fassetta put another shot between the posts to end the chukker 3-2 for Dundas.

Shortly into the second chukker, Kris Kampsen tied the score at 3-3 on a penalty 2. With slightly more than a minute and a half left in the chukker, Kris Kampsen deflected a shot on goal by Zedda, but Mariano Fasseta tapped it through for his second goal of the day. In the third chukker, Dundas kept Bushwood off the goal while Zedda scored to end the half 5-3 for Dundas.

Sarah Magness started the second half by successfully converting a penalty 2, with Nick Manifold answering to bring the score to 6-4. Magness knocked in another penalty shot, again on a penalty two. With less than 30 seconds of play left, Kampsen scored with an impressive neck shot to end the chukker with Dundas up 2 goals, at 7-5.

Barely twenty seconds into the fifth chukker, Robertito Zedda cracked the ball downfield to Fasetta, who found the goal to score. With 4:18 left to play, Zedda pounded the ball downfield in a spectacular long shot to put Dundas ahead 9-5. Michael Armour found the goal, with Kris Kampsen converting his third penalty shot of the day and following up with yet another goal to cut the Dundas advantage to one goal, at 9-8.

As the final chukker opened with Bushwood nipping at their heels, Dundas took the offensive. Fasetta, Spinacci and Magness each scored a goal, gaining a four-goal lead over Bushwood. Kampsen knocked in a final shot for Bushwood to end the match 12-9 with Dundas capturing the title. Kris Kampsen was the high scoring player for the game, while Robertito Zedda was named MVP. Best Playing Pony was J-5 Matilde, ridden by Zedda in the fifth chukker.

With a team handicap of 20, Aspen Valley started the match with two goals on the board.

La Indiana made a quick start, narrowing Aspen Valley’s initial advantage to 1 when Nico Escobar picked up a pass from Polito Pieres after just 35 seconds of play and found the goal. Despite the auspicious start, La Indiana remained behind throughout the chukker as Horacio Heguy and Pablo Spinacci scored for Aspen Valley.

Down by 4-1 at the beginning of the second period, La Indiana intensified their efforts to get on the board and scored an impressive five goals in a fast chukker to gain a two-goal lead. With just under 60 seconds of play remaining, Horacio Heguy took control of the ball at the bowl-in and broke away to score with an impressive neck shot. Unfortunately for La Indiana, they couldn’t maintain their momentum in the third chukker and failed to score, while Gussie Busch dodged Jeff Hall to knock the ball through the posts in the final seconds of the chukker.  The half ended with the score tied at 6-6.

Nico Escobar successfully converted on a penalty two in early in the fourth chukker, followed by a goal from Pablo Spinacci to tie the score at 7-7. Another penalty two allowed Clem Zavetta to score for Aspen Valley, putting them back in the lead briefly until Pieres tied things up again. A final goal from Spinacci ended the period at 9-8 with. Aspen Valley leading.

At the beginning of the fifth chukker, La Indiana seemed to realize that it was time to pour on the steam. Nico Escobar scored two consecutive goals to take back the lead, then Jeff Hall put the score up to 11-9. In the face of a strong defense from La Indiana, the team in blue couldn’t find the goalposts. A final shot by Escobar saw the chukker end 12-9 with La Indiana in the lead. As the final chukker got underway, Pieres converted on a penalty two. Escobar exploded with a series of three goals to see La Indiana with 16 on the board. A last valiant effort by Zavetta brought the final score to 16-10. Nico Escobar was the high scoring player, responsible for 8 of La Indiana’s 16 goals.

The second match of The Sterling Cup saw Great Oaks (Dillon Bacon, Torito Ruiz, Facundo Llorente and Gonzalo Garcia del Rio) take on Scone (David Paradice, Poroto Cambiaso, Peke Gonzalez and Adolfo Cambiaso) at Jan Pamela Farm. Great Oaks, with a team handicap of 21, started the match with one goal on the board.

Young Poroto Cambiaso, a 6-goal player at the tender age of 15, drew first blood, taking control of the ball after his father’s foul shot was deflected by Toro Ruiz’s pony and going to goal. Despite strong efforts by Great Oaks, they weren’t able to get on the board in the first chukker.

The second period proved to be no more successful for Great Oaks, who found themselves still shut out while Scone racked up another three goals, including a successful penalty 4 conversion by Cambiaso the Younger, and goals from Peke Gonzalez and Cambiaso the Elder. Play was more evenly matched in the third chukker, with Toro Ruiz finally putting Great Oaks on the board. Gonzalez scored on a penalty three to end the half 5-3 in favor of Scone.

Play was more evenly matched in the fourth chukker, with a lot of back and forth from both teams. Peke Gonzalez converted on a penalty five, while Gonzalo Garcia del Rio found the posts for Great Oaks. At the beginning of the fifth chukker Scone was in the lead by 6-4. Adolfo Cambiaso, atypically leading his team from the back rather than the number one position, scored for Scone with Gonzalez following up with a successful conversion on a penalty three.

Dillon Bacon dodged traffic to score his team’s one goal for the chukker, while Peke Gonzalez knocked in another penalty shot to end the period 9-5 for Scone. Toro Ruiz, showing some of his customary zeal, scored the first goal of the final chukker with an answer from Adolfo Cambiaso. Ruiz also connected with a penalty shot, and the match ended 10-7 for Scone. Peke Gonzalez was the high scoring player of the match, with five goals.

Wellington, FL – January 30, 2021 – Palm Beach Equine bounced back from Sunday’s defeat to Aspen to capture their second victory, defeating Beverly Polo 11-9 on the Isla Carroll West field at the International Polo Club Palm Beach (IPC). Robi Bilbao’s superb attacking skills, finishing with a season-high five goals, led Palm Beach Equine to the narrow two-goal victory as they wait for the outcome in Sunday’s game to determine their place in the semifinals or final of the 2021 Ylvisaker Cup.

Losing their last match against Beverly Polo, Palm Beach Equine managed to capture the victory in the crucial match that held heavy implications for the rest of the tournament. A hard-fought game was determined by the proficiency of Palm Beach Equine from the penalty line, converting five of their seven attempts, while also outshooting Beverly Polo from the field. Beverly Polo, with a two-goal advantage, looked to match Palm Beach Equine each step of the way, but Palm Beach Equine received a balanced attack that saw five goals from Bilbao, along with three each from Costi Caset and Gringo Colombres to complete the 11-9 victory.

In the early stages of the game, Beverly Polo committed two quick fouls which quickly erased their two-goal lead on handicap and leaving the game tied at 2-2. Reclaiming the lead on a penalty conversion from Tolito Ocampo, Beverly Polo exited the first chukker ahead by one, but were facing a persistent offense from Palm Beach Equine. Producing five shots in the second chukker, Palm Beach Equine received goals from Bilbao and Colombres, taking their first lead of the game at 4-3. Aiming to restore their advantage, Beverly Polo fought hard in an intense third chukker that saw a combined seven goals between the two teams on perfect shooting from the field and penalty line. However, Palm Beach Equine doubled their lead to two, thanks to the trio of Caset, Bilbao, and Colombres, who proved to be a significant factor in the outcome.

Palm Beach Equine entered the second half continuing their strong and coordinated play, outshooting Beverly Polo 4-1 in the fourth chukker, but remained just two ahead after Ocampo’s penalty conversion matched Bilbao’s fourth goal of the game. A determined Beverly Polo team worked hard throughout an exciting fifth chukker, keeping Palm Beach Equine scoreless and allowing Ocampo to cut the deficit to just one goal entering the final chukker. Palm Beach Equine fought through their offensive struggles to control possession at the start of the sixth chukker. Bilbao capped off his strong performance with a goal to open scoring in the final chukker and it was a Penalty 3 conversion for Colombres that sealed the 11-9 victory for Palm Beach Equine.

The last game of group play is on Sunday on the Home of the U.S. Polo Assn – Field 1, with Aspen and Tamera fighting for their place in the semifinal.

Wellington, FL – January 26, 2021 – The fourth game of the 2021 Ylvisaker Cup brought all four teams even with a 1-1 record as Tamera defeated Beverly Polo 14-10 at the International Polo Club Palm Beach (IPC) on Tuesday. The dynamic duo of Diego Cavanagh and Lucas Escobar combined for 11 goals, leading Tamera to the four-goal victory on Field 4.

Losing 10-7 to Palm Beach Equine on Thursday, Tamera entered the game with a difficult task to win against the Joe Barry Memorial finalist Beverly Polo. With Cavanagh and Escobar spearheading the attack, Tamera was dominant much of the game, quickly erasing the two-goal deficit on handicap to lead from the second chukker onwards. Hilario Figueras continued his strong play on the season, shooting a perfect 4 for 4 from the penalty line for Beverly Polo, but it was not enough to overcome being heavily outshot 23-10. Controlling open play, Tamera held Beverly Polo to just 30% shooting, while scoring 12 goals from the field to capture the impressive 14-10 victory.

Tamera claimed the lead in the opening chukker behind Diego Cavanagh’s lightning-quick start, scoring the first three goals of the game to quickly erase Beverly Polo’s lead on handicap. Figueras’ Penalty 2 conversion ended the first chukker, leaving the two teams tied at 3-3. Held to zero field goals, Beverly Polo continued to generate offense from the penalty line, adding two penalty conversions, but it did not slow Tamera’s Cavanagh, who added another goal while assisting on both of Luis Escobar’s goals to give their team the 6-5 lead. Having found their stride from the field, Tamera carried their momentum into the end of the half, receiving goals from Alejandro Poma and Lucas Escobar to put all four players on the scoresheet and give Tamera the 8-6 advantage at halftime.

Led by their defense, Tamera entered the second half keeping Beverly Polo off the scoreboard, holding them to zero attempts at goal in the fourth chukker. Pinning Beverly Polo in their own half, Tamera pushed forward, resulting in Lucas Escobar scoring back-to-back goals and extending their lead to four. Desperate to close the gap, Beverly Polo fought hard in an intense fifth chukker that saw both teams add three goals, but the duo of Cavanagh and Lucas Escobar proved to be a significant factor in the outcome. With the four-goal advantage, Tamera maintained their lead, conceding a safety to Tolito Ocampo and completing the impressive 14-10 victory.
